They couldn't win. I've learned that much this week. Reckon they've done well enough.

Strange interview on FC tonight. Allowed the panel to bully him on occassions.

Pinch of salt. Robbo just potting him because of what he did to Hirdy and his beloved Bombers. Has quiet a mean streak Robbo as we saw with his persecution of Malthouse, doesn't forget.

Perhaps that is true on other issues but no-one has been more vocal in the defence of Goodes than Robbo. He was first out of the blocks and has stayed in front.

Maybe true but he's somehow found a bone to pick with the Fitzpatrick in the process who's generally fairly quiet on most things.

Haha the people you refer to are expressing opinions not sooking. Adam did have a sook. He used his footy role as an Indigenous pulpit and couldn't handle the heat. It works both ways. He couldn't cope and subsequently missed a few days and a premiership point game.

Indigenous life expectancy is a worthy cause for discussion but nothing to do with football.

It relates to this because I keep reading how Adam Goodes is a role model for indigenous Australia yet all I'm hearing is how he's traumatised because some fans are booing him (take out the reason why argument). All this ever needed was a comment from Adam like "This is not the worst thing being experienced by Aboriginal Australians at the moment..." and then a launch into the disgraceful conditions indigenous Australians are living in in remote parts of this country (and some in not so remote parts). Every time a journo tried to ask about the booing, deflect onto this issue and he'd a) have one more game to his tally, and b) force the media to report on issues that nobody wants to talk about. He'd be leading his people well and forcing this nation to have a debate it doesn't seem to want to have. But no, let's make it all about Adam.

Bruntonave. you've made two very specific claims about people. Firstly that the 13yo girl is mentally handicapped and secondly that Ben Cousins is indigenous. Please provide evidence of those claims being factual or retract your claims. We've faced legal action before for similar unsubstantiated personal claims.. One was someone stating an ex-player was an alcoholic.

And the legal action here is?

Just delete them if you're worried.

It's those who booed him every time he went near the ball who've made it about him.

Why would you take out 'the reason why argument'?

That's the whole point.

RFC made an unequivocal statement about this, do you support that?

I trust you were honest and informed with your claims. No need to delete them. Just provide evidence. Far easier than me having to trawl through this thread to find and delete all the discussion around the claims. Surely you don't have issues with that considering you've told others not to quote without providing links.

I will do something I don't normally do and commend the way the AFL and Gillon McLachlan have handled this delicate issue.
Been done about as well as could be expected. 12 months in and I reckon Gil is doing a miles better job than Adolf.

Disagree 100%. Gil and the board have been pissweak. Saying the AFL doesn't tolerate racism was done in the 90s with Nicky Winmar.. Adolf would have been proactive way way before this.

I disagree. Allowing the AFL to be used as a political stage and discriminating on the base of race is doing a lot of damage imo. Keep it off the field and have the same rules for everyone. This is the low point of AFL/VFL football imo. The AFL, Adam Goodes and the booing supporters have all contributed. I don't think any of them are without fault.

2 almost opposite views.
Personally I think they've done ok but that's just my opinion.
Like I said they can't win. It's been a very divisive issue.
I'll step out again, this thread swallows too much energy.

I find it really interesting to read and discuss all of the opinions. I just can't see how discrimination can be not only tolerated, but encouraged and condoned by the powers to be. It's not about blacks and whites in the olden days to me. That doesn't mean I approve of what's happened in the past. I find it very upsetting and disgraceful. It can't be changed though. To me it's about equal opportunity and conditions for everyone from this day forward. This recent division that's been created doesn't help in any way imo. I realise some think it's done the world of good...but I don't.

Trying to progress the discussion instead of the round and round arguments of "I think it's racist" "Well I don't" that has occupied about 50 pages or so of this thread. I think we're all at a stalemate there. I think regardless of which camp you sit with, Adam Goodes has missed an opportunity. You know, I don't care if you agree with me or not. Just putting my 2 cents worth out there

And no, I don't really support that although I do like the jumper. I do understand why they did it though. The whole AFL community is too scared to do nothing now or they will somehow get caught up in it and be branded racist

You can speak for yourself, but not for the entire AFL community. Your wrong here. (I know you'll come back with 'I wasn't speaking for them just expressing an opinion on it', whatever). The motivation and sentiment were crystal clear. I was stunned and encouraged by how how emphatic the response was, no fakery there.

No, you're probably right. I can't assume what they are thinking, just like you can't assume what I'll come back with and all those who accuse people who are booing of being racist can't assume what they are thinking.

Yep, I'm done. This thread has added 60 pages in one week. Don't think one single person's opinion has been swayed in that time.

A lot of simple questions haven't been answered. If they were we'd have a better idea of where they're coming from other than just having a crack at those they pigeon hole and disagree with. Might be here talking to myself soon. :hihi
