I don't think he's been the same since he copped the staging free and report. It really seemed to knock him around. There were glimpses but that 2017 consistent brilliant week in week out seemed to fade.
Agree.

If he comes back we will either see:
1. The rusty brain-fades that he is included to do sometimes
2. Be like a crazy bull tearing the place apart and intercepting anything within 80 meters of him!

I actually agree with this.

That BS over the diving certainly did affect his game and took away Alex's spark somewhat.

He hasnt been the same since them scrotes in the media went on their witch hunt.

Dont see why.

Broad has played every game with Alex that they've been available to play together in bar Nathans suspension and injury.

He would also remain in the side to assist Alex.

One of the smalls would make way somewhere across the park.

Just because he’s “always played” with Alex doesn’t mean Broad gets a gig in a final.

If Rance was to play, you have Astbury to take the gorilla, Grimes and Vlastuin as utilities, Short and Houli to distribute.

We are clearly looking to attack more, to move the ball with greater cohesion. We also want to support Nankervis and generate good quality clearances for the first time in a while.

As such, we have a greater need to keep a runner or keep Chol rather than a fourth-string backman.

Just my opinion.

Short is a 4th string backman he cant even defend which is the primary job of a defender, the side and the defence improved when he wasn't there in 2017 and won a flag,.

Short can go to the wing or up the ground but his weak efforts in the finals last year stood out he is a poor defender.

Opposition clubs will play through him and his man in finals.

I'd much rather Jayden rotate off a wing where he can use his strengths ie his kicking to switch play, clear defensive set ups across our our half forward line and kick goals from long range.

I just don't know if he has the ability to cover the ground required to play that role though like Ellis, Lambo, Shedda or Grover do.

I hear you, though we differ on Short’s abilities.

More to the point, why do we need the defensive cover you outline?

Why does everyone in the back six need to be a stopper?

Astbury and Grimes will stop their men.

Rance and Vlastuin will intercept and support-spoil.

Shorty and Houli will run and receive. You can bet one will be sat on in a final, freeing the other.

Why keep Broad in this equation when all he does is stop his man (less well than Grimes and Astbury) or intercept (less we’ll than Rance or Vlastuin).

No mistake, Broad has been very solid. But you don’t keep him for the sake of defensive grit.

No oppo has four medium-talls we absolutely must sit on.

Broadys key attribute maybe even his best attribute is his elite running & covering / guarding space , making our exits easier as he drags oppo away ( when he doesn't receive it) & makes their forward entries difficult as he clogs up their space.

Similar to KMac in some respects

Yep, all well and good. And I appreciate those qualities and can see how they fit into our overall game plan.

I just think with Stack and Bolton moving mid and Chol supporting Nank (soon) we won’t be conceding as many D50s as we have been.

I also think our best method of defence at the G is breaking defensive lines. This is Short’s speciality.

In any case, we’re talking about a scenario where Rance is playing, an absolute God of defensive running and spatial nous.

Agree to disagree, but I enjoy the debate, Taz.

I think Alex would throw everything at it and it would be his choice to do so. Appears to have his life outside football sorted. Could be his last tilt at a Premiership anyway.
Agree, no one knows what can happen. A lot happens/changes in one year of footy

Absolutely which gives further perspective what transpires over the course of a season

it really can be a roller coaster sometimes. Rance went down in R1, we get flogged by Collingwood and GWS in R2 and R3, plus more injuries. and we think it might be season over. then a miracle effort in R4 and we somehow find oursleves 7-3 after R10 with all these players out. We start talking flags again. Then 3 consecutive losses and more injuries and we're questioning if we can sneak into the finals. Now after 2 big wins, players returning and losses to teams above us, the ladder has opened up for us to start talking top 4 again. But a loss this week and we're back to being in the middle of the pack.

Ah good, I was worried there for a minute, as much about Rance as I was about Zips getting something right.

Agree. the Next 3 weeks will tell us where we are really at.
The weather has turned to *smile* in Melbourne and that should favour us.

Can't seem to find this posted on the forum so as the title relates to Alex, I suppose this is as good as anywhere.
Brendon Gale prematch v PA
More footy related stuff 10 minutes in.
Things I took from it.
Get stuffed geelong with your home final whingeing!
Big wrap for Marbior Chol as a player
Got the feeling Alex is going to play
When (not if) he takes over at HQ...... Tassie will be high on the agenda!

(Dwayne Russell introduced SHocking as the 2IC of the game the other night ..... as hopeless as gil is let's pray he don't get run over anytime soon!)

No oppo has four medium-talls we absolutely must sit on.
GWS- Cameron, Himmleburg, Finlayson, Greene.
Pies: Cox, Mihocek, De Goey, Stephenson.

Grimes is our best small defender, and Broad is best playing on a medium.
I reckon Shorts move to the wing on the weekend, might be the 1st step to him going to the VFL.- he was shifted back to defence in the 2nd half cos he couldnt get a kick.

This is one for the optimists:)

I were listening to two footy radio jocks, (can't remember who), one posed the question do you think Rance will play this year? one said he will play the other said REALLY?, (as in your kidding yourself), and got the reply that he had spoken to Murray, (his old man), and he is certain he will play.

No doubt Rance will put up his hand but as Benny says in interview it will come down to a clinical decision which hasn't even been had yet so remains a long shot.
