First Delist 6.
Retire Grigg.and Houlie.
Trade Butler, Ellis, Graham and Menadue.
(Based on value and list balance of established players).
To be traded together with our picks above GC 3rd, say pick 38.
Second Delist 3.
Aarts* , Garthwaite and Moore.
New
Mid year draft Pickitt, elevated rookies Chol, Egglemosse-Smith and Stack plus our first 4 draft picks and then 4 rookies to join Townsend and Weller.
(We would also seek to trade up our remaining picks 18 and say 37, (allowing for our 12th flag in September), and 38, plus what we might get for Butler, Ellis, Graham and Menadue to give us the best 4 draft draft picks available, maybe 1 mid and one late first rounder and 2 early second rounders.

Quite simple off season.
We need a tall defender & Ruckman priority number 1
We need to get a ready made midfielder.

We don’t add 2 of those 3 next year, it will have another wasted year.
We have players that can get us trades. Ryder straight swap Moore
Bulter for a 2nd rounder
Bolton for Crouch
.

Griffin Logue has had a of injuries, but i thought he has been ok since coming in to replace Alex Pearce at the Dockers. A bit surprised that he has been dropped this week.
Worse case scenario if Bolts does want to go back to Wa, would Logue be worth looking at if a suitable trade could be done?
I really hope Bolts stays though, and i think he will.

I think there’s not too many on the list who have zero currency , which is a great thing I.e Menadue is one who has improved slightly this year and will probably improve again next year, however imho I’d move him on, however I think he has enough traits where another club would take a punt on him, at worst I think a club would trade a pick 40ish for Menadue an pick 50ish.

At this stage I think it’s highly likely will have 4 picks in the top 40, personally unless we can fill a need which I don’t believe we have any must haves at this point, I’d go to the draft again, all been well we will still be one of the favourites again next year, however it’s the next generation that has plenty of talent in it that needs to be added to our flag tilts from 2023 onwards

It’s not up to Houli it should be up to the club. For me Houli is gone.
Can’t we ever let them go when they’re ok, rather watch them become road kill?
He should do the right thing and retire

I strongly disagree with those wanting to trade out Graham.

In my opinion, he makes us much stronger onfield when he is in, doing a lot of the hard work. I think that he goes unrewarded for what he does a lot of the time. He protects other players having such a strong body, tackles and has a large number of pressure acts in a game. He puts a lot of pressure on opposition players.

In my opinion, he is a keeper.

I think this year we need to look at trading out one or two of our senior listed players, like a Butler or Menadue as I think we have others coming through that can fill their roles better. I am sure Ross will help us in the middle once he is back but I think we need another mature body to help to get the ball going our way. Having said this, Marlion Pickett may be the answer for us, we will have to wait and see I suppose.

I think for Butler we could sneak out a 2nd round pick for him, he is a Premiership player after all. I also do not think we need to make lots of changes to the list this year. We do need to upgrade a couple though.

As for Ellis, you cannot blame him if he takes a larger offer from another club. He is not our worst player even though some think he is but he wont get a better offer from our club so we cannot begrudge him if he decides to go. If he does, I hope we get a good compo pick for him.

Can anyone tell me - are you able to trade out Compensation picks?

You can trade out everything these days
Dont you know we just follow the NBA.
We can trade ellis for Carltons 3rd rounder in 2028.
Then they wonder where GC went wrong.

Of course it's also up to the club and whilst Houli is playing as a top 22 player my guess is Tigers will want to keep him, particularly whilst we're still in the premiership window as Houli has proven to be a valuable finals player. As I said I think Houli will play on next year but I'm sure from this point on it will be 1 year at a time.

The other factor in trading out players is the TPP.
The six I have mentioned above as possible retirements or to be offered in trade, Grigg, Houlie, Butler, Ellis, Graham and Menadue I. estimate, would be currently earning around $2,000,000. per annum. And the 2nd delists, Moore and Garthwaite a further $4 to 500,000.
Allowing for the contracting of the rookies plus Bolton that is still going to give us considerable TPP relief.
Also given the anticipated growth and improvement of our 2nd string rucks, our list is in pretty good shape.
Our recruitment/draft people have never been stronger. Giving them say 4 draft picks under 40 and a saving on the TPP, plus the addition of Chol, Eggy, Pickitt and Stack to the main list would be an excellent result.

Glad you're not managing our player payments. On those sort of guesstimates we'd be $5 mill over the salary cap paying the rest of the list.

It was as you say a guesstimate, but popular thought is that we are currently spending at close to the limit. What do u think they are on?

Graham, Ellis, Gathwaite and Butler will not be delisted.

Why Garthwaite ? He has done everything a key back in training SHOULD do? What more did you want from him?

Yeah Garthie gets another go round next year at the very least. Our ruck division ain't that great I reckon - Nank won't last too much longer, Chol is not a first ruck. Soldo is Soldo. CCJ shows promise but rucks take a while and there are no guarantees.

If you read both posts you will see the players I suggest should be offered in trade are Butler, Graham, Ellis and Menadue. And offers will come in.
I also think Garthwaite and Moore will be offered but failing those two getting picked up, suggest they maybe delisted.
Garth has done ok in a defensive role but imo he isn’t tall enough or strong enough to deal with tall forwards, or generally fast enough to take on smalls or mediums.
At his height he needs to have the speed and agility of a Grimes to make it.
I don’t think he can get there..

We need real tall key defenders, the giants are creeping into the game and we have no one to combat them.

Tigers need a couple of 198 cm + key defenders and they dont grow on trees.

Harris Andrews is one man we need at the RFC.

To be fair he's probably not a million miles away, I'd say those 5 would be on close to $1.7m between them. Houli, Grigg and Ellis you'd expect to swallow up $1.2m easily. The other 2 at $250k is substantially below the average AFL wage.

Personally for me, looking at the options put forward by others, is Houli goes around again but on less money, possibly more based around performance based criteria (ie,. games etc) than base salary, Graham is going nowhere, Butler and Ellis will be playing elsewhere next year.

Townsend and Weller will be delisted (1 will make room for DES on the main rookie list rather than Cat B), Moore, Menadue and Aarts will depend on how many picks we want to take to the draft and if we trade anyone in.

I can't see this being a massive list transition year personally.

We're close to the limit because there's big payments to the likes of Dusty, Cotch, Tross, Jaaack, Lynch n Presty. Then there's players like Shedda, Lamblett, Flossy, Grub, Nank, *smile* n Sausage etc will be on fairly decent coin. Reckon this lot would easily account for around about n maybe more than half the cap, then there's still another thirty blokes to pay with the other half.
The likes of Garp, Seymoore n Menardue would likely be on the base fringe senior contract around $100,000 to $150,000 a year plus match payments if they play seniors.
Geezer and Fridge probably max out at $ 200,000 maybe up to $250,000 each Grigga, Bash n Bobble around the $ 300,000 to $ 350,000 per year, max $ 400,000 at a stretch.
Reckon the eight would total around $ 1.75 maximum.
