The good news is, David King is tipping a West Coast-Geelong grand final. After the match he'll be on hand to explain why we won it.

Not sure. I reckon another 5 goal win. Much like the previous wins where if we had stayed full throttle it would have been more. Instead we're still tinkering and trying things, fine tuning for the finals.

We don't tend to flog sides and Cartoon will be no different. 30-40 points would be a good result.

Kingsight.
He loves the cats, still laugh at his pre game analysis in 2017 when he said he trusts Geelong more than the tigers in a big game at the G. It was right then I knew we were certainties. Under Scott they are woeful in finals at the g.

Far out what an exciting end to the season coming up. Do yourselves a favour and have a look at the ladder predictor. So much movement possible considering teams thereabouts playing each other. Worst case I've got us 5th playing the Dogs or finishing 4th and meeting Cats week one.

Gold Coast (SE - QLD).
I’m doing a mini research report into winning a GF.

Teams have travelled interstate for a final since 2009.

61 finals.

Travelling team has won 5 times.
Home team has won 56 times.

In 4 out of those 5 times the away team has won the premiership.

2 of those win were in the same year by the same club: Western Bulldogs 2016.

2018 GF - WCE d Coll
2016 - EF WBD d GWS
PF WBD d WCE
2015. SF Nth d Syd
2012, GF Sydney d Hawks

And in the last 20 years the premier has finished either 1,2, or 3, except once (western bulldogs 2016).

In 2016 the western bulldogs finished 7th and won two interstate finals. However they were the home team in the GF opposed to an interstate opponent. That occurrence was statistically ridiculous and the outcome has not occurred twice and therefore should be treated as an outlier and removed.

If a team plays an interstate final then they are less likely to win but if they do win they are more likely to win the premiership. Especially if it’s on GF day.

Furthermore if that team finished 1, 2 or 3 they are much more likely to win the premiership.

So your chances of winning the premiership are much higher if you finish 1, 2, or 3 and play finals at home against teams from interstate.

This isn’t groundbreaking information and it’s not evaluated all variables but it’s good to see the cases that lead to the conclusions.

Well it’s go time now.
Every game now influences our position to get to the GF and win it.

They are all versus teams at the top of the ladder and they’ve had good seasons.

It is my preference we get a QF V Geelong.

I'm a bit worried about our dry weather form. 4 of our last 5 wins have been in the wet and we've let teams back in all those games when the rain stopped.

Has any side won the last 9 H&A matches going into the finals then won the GF? (Especially winning all 3 finals?).

Coz it seems that’s what we,ll have to do.

The Tigers can do it, Tim. They certainly can. I'm tipping it already.

We need to beat WC by ~ 40 points to go above them on % and take 3rd spot.

Only chance of us making top 2 is if we win by that 40+ and Cats beat Lions at Gabba. I can't see this happening.

I have Brisbane beating Geelong, us winning both our games and a 4-way tie for 1st, Geelong (1st) hosting us (4th) at the G, and Brisbane hosting West Coast. That is just about perfect for us.

Will be in Shanghai for Round 23 so does anyone know if the game is televised there. The Boss lady is a Lion fan & has said that we are not in Shanghai to watch football. Got news for her. I see the game starts at 3.20 pm EAST which is in my favour. One has to leave the hotel at 5.00 pm for a harbour & buffet dinner cruise but Tigers should be a mile in front by then. As for the finals on board Majestic Princess for the first two games so should get it on there.

I think it is going to be quite hard for us to finish top 2 now, so we must hope we finish 4th and play Geelong!

Correct me if Im wrong someone, but basically if we win both our games, we would need Brisbane to beat Geelong this week and the Eagles to beat Hawks! This should have us finish 4th on %.

IF all the above happens, BUT Geelong beats Brisbane this week then we finish 3rd and play West Coast in Perth!

I'm a bit worried about our lack of ability to bury teams. Is it a deliberate ploy from the coaches to save energy for the finals? to avoid risking more injuries? are we in the middle of a hard training block? Or are we starting to games too hard and running out of fuel? it would be intersting to see where we rank for 3rd and 4th quarters in 2019. my guess would be middle of the road for 3rd quarters and the bottom third for 4th quarters.

L2R2R?

In 2016 the western bulldogs finished 7th and won two interstate finals. However they were the home team in the GF opposed to an interstate opponent.

I disagree with this specific argument. the GF is neutral territory. yes, interstate teams have to travel, but the crowd numbers are roughly 50/50. there have been 17 GF’s where a VIC team has played an interstate team and its 9-8 in favour of the interstate teams.

I have Brisbane beating Geelong, us winning both our games and a 4-way tie for 1st, Geelong (1st) hosting us (4th) at the G, and Brisbane hosting West Coast. That is just about perfect for us.

It would be a dream outcome, especially if Brisbane were to knock off the eagles in week 1. From a Richmond point of view, Brisbane beating Geeloing would be a better result than vice versa.

To finish 2nd we need Geelong to beat Brisbane. We need to beat Eagles by 31 points or more to get our % above theirs. We would be in 2nd as at end of round 22.

Then we need to beat Brisbane by more than Eagles beat Hawthorn (if in fact they do) in the last round.

If we do not beat the Eagles by 31 or more we then have to beat Brisbane by more than the Eagles beat Hawthorn.

The beauty is that by Sunday of Round 23 we will know exactly what is needed

And if Collingwood beat Adelaide and then flog Essendon by 52+ they jump into 4th and Brisbane fall to 5th
