The judge said as part of his consideration into his sentencing was his good character

Wow, I'm confused, he's a convicted pedophile, who "allowed" other alleged & some now convicted pedophiles to ply their filthy ways & he's of "good character"

To me that doesn't add up.

It’s a contradiction, for sure. He also criticised the “witch hunt” of Pell in recent weeks. One report said the judge appeared shocked when the jury’s verdict was announced.

Perhaps an insight into his thoughts.

He'll forever be a registered sex offender. Even when he gets out of the hole ,The Cardinal* will have to carry that title for the rest of his days. Have a nice life George.

'It is hard for me to allow myself to feel the gravity of this moment': Pell victim reacts to sentence

March 13, 2019 — 11.59am

One of the victims of George Pell's sexual abuse released the following statement after Chief Judge Peter Kidd sentenced the cardinal to six years' jail, with a non-parole period of three years and eight months.

It is hard for me to allow myself to feel the gravity of this moment, the moment when the sentence is handed down. The moment when justice is done. It is hard for me, for the time being, to take comfort in this outcome. I appreciate that the court has acknowledged what was inflicted upon me as a child, however there is no rest for me.

Everything is overshadowed by the forthcoming appeal.

I am aware of a lot of public comment by people who are critical of my evidence. But only the judge, the jury, Pell and the legal teams have heard my evidence.

Regardless of the outcome of the appeal, a few facts will always remain.

I gave evidence for several days. I was cross-examined by Pell's defence counsel. A jury has unanimously accepted the truth of my evidence.

Pell chose not to give evidence. The jury did not hear from him. He did not allow himself to be cross-examined.

I have played my part as best I can. I took the difficult step of reporting to police about a high-profile person and I stood up to give my evidence. I'm waiting for the outcome of the appeal like everybody else.

Being a witness in a criminal case has not been easy. I'm doing my best to hold myself and my family together. I would like to thank the media for respecting my wish to keep my identity private and keep my loved ones out of the spotlight.

I think the judge got it right.

Gave Pell an unambiguous roasting and said he expected him to die in jail.

As is a fitting end.

Maybe Pell defence tried to use the “too old and frail” argument regarding sentencing and the judge threw it back in their faces

To once again play devil's advocate, and put this in some sort of context... It appears most reporting of abuse happens in the months after the abuse took place.

Yet in Pell's case, 100% of the allegations have been delayed by decades.

You are correct in your assertion (assuming data set is valid) but the data could be a little misleading. I think it needs a bar at the end for unreported crime that shows that time until now or the persons death. Obviously this data isn’t available and you’d have to infer from other statistics somehow so would be dubious at best. My speculation would be a majority goes unreported and that’s the real issue.

I think that there might be a similar comparison to domestic violence. Why does it, in a lot of occasions go unreported for so long? Possibly similar reasons, shame, fear, intimidation.

I'll never forget the time where he said people who have abortions are worse the paedophiles. If hell does exist, he'll be rotting in there when his time comes.
