He is a keeper, he has been trending up this year and should be knocking on the door of regular senior selection next season.

Has speed, a very good tank and good foot skills as well as being our best player in the final series so far this year.

His game against Freo in Freo showed he has what it takes to be an above average player

Agree he will leave but despite the number of years' Connor has been on the list I would still prefer to keep him..
I think his a cert to be on an AFL list next year and he should still have improvement in him, his definitely got some AFL traits however imho his never going to be anything more then a fringie

The MC has been tough on Connor. When he plays, it's been high half- forward or wing, rarely the luxury of half-back (he got a half there v Freo and blitzed). They drop him at the first opportunity, while others get to stink it up for two months in the cushy job.

His pace and kicking penetration mark him as a weapon. He used both brilliantly yesterday. He's been playing high half-forward, going back when we need him like the last quarter yesterday. In the last 7 weeks, he's averaged 20 possessions and nearly 2 goals per game. That is elite for the role.

So. We're stretching him. Yeah, you can play half-back, but we reckon you can be better. If you end up a half-back, you'll be a better one for this experience.

Him being unsigned worries me. In my mind the club wants him, but you can bet he's getting bigger offers and guaranteed games elsewhere. It was pleasing to hear Fly say Connor buys in to the VFL team as much as anyone, and I've heard 3rd-hand reports he loves the club (how couldn't you??). I really hope he stays, he has some very good footy ahead of him.

Running half back. The Short upgrade.
I think that should be true, however even as someone who’s not a big Short fan I think Short has taken his chances a lot more then Menadue has, in fact I’d say Shorts played nearly as many good games at the top Level then Menadue has at VFL. Some have it , some don’t.

Will probably get another year but really depends on whether he's happy to play depth player at the Tigers or try and gt more opportunities elsewhere.

There's no doubt he's been played out of position at times. Unfortunately for him spook he's had better players in front of him in his ideal role.
I thought he was excellent at VFL level yesterday but I have seen him dominate at that level for some time now. He just hasn't had anywhere near the same impact in his numerous AFL opportunities. The positional argument is a valid one but you've still got to show enough to persevere with & he's failed to do that in his 39 senior games.
He may still become an AFL senior footballer as there's something there no doubt, just not with us.

Not surprisingly, I disagree vehemently that Short is a better player.

Brisbane could do with a quick half-back, and they have cap room, apparently. If they offer him three years at 300k, you'd think that would trump our likely two at 200. He'll kill it there.

He was great after the game too. Chatting to family and fans, happy for selfies and photos. Looked like he could have gone around again.

What an amazing set of circumstances. You'd think Rocye Hart has returned.

How many times will be people be sucked in by a VFL performance? That's his level. Good VFL player. That data, the exposure to AFL, everything tells us that.

Naish already gone past him and is the outside player in waiting, Pickett already past him without playing a game. And both are cheaper. We are already super tight with cap space, you don't pay a 23 year with 39 games to stick around. You send him off to the Gold Coast for a 3rd,4th Rounder in 2020 like we did with Miles. This is the last time he will have a thread of currency.

Footballs version of fools gold right here.

Re vs Short it's an interesting argument & don't totally disagree. In time I think both will be out of the system.

Could well be right Scooper. But nah Pickett hasn't gone past him yet n he's what 27y.o.
Menardue was probably BOG for us in the VFL prelim. Picket did Sweet Fanny Addams until the last qtr, scrubbed a lot of his possessions in the first three. Naish also un sighted until the last qtr where he got off the leash a couple of times while we were dominating.
Pretty sure the initial thoughts on Connor when he was drafted were that he'd be a bit of a project n would take 3 / 4 years to come on. Yep he's had 5 years n never had continuity or a position at senior level, but does continually show better than VFL level.
If he gets decent offers elsewhere he'll probably be moved on, if not I'd be happy enough to see if he can grab Bobble's spot on the wing n own it. There's not a hope in hell he's on enough coin at the moment to influence our cap n as our injuries showed this year it doesn't hurt to have a solid core of plug n play reserves when the *smile* hits the fan, not suggesting anything as stupid as a 3 year deal but another year for emergency purposes wouldn't hurt.. There's already a few players that'll be in the move along category ahead of Connor at the moment n if the draft this year is as even / flat beyond the first few as has been mentioned. It's probably not a year to be putting the dunny brush through the list.

We know Conor has talent but has only once shown it on the AFL stage and that day he was something special. On the VFL stage he regularly shows how good he can be but doesn't seem to replicate at AFL level in a consistent manner. It has to be his mindset that is causing his problem otherwise he would be a regular I the firsts

Trade both Menadue and Markov while they have some currency.

I don't believe they have any currency.
Markov worth keeping for another year though rather than trading for a pick we won't use.
Menadue has done his dash.

Maybe so, RFC.
Can't see a top tier team trading for Mendaue or Markov, but reckon Menadue would attract some interest from Suns, Port, Brisbane, even Freo.

I,d like to keep him and he becomes a goal kicking wing in the afl.
We can all dream he takes the step up.
But that's just wishin and hopin. It's like hoping warner can make runs overseas.

it's not so much that Naish and Pickett have gone past Menadue, although thats what Scoop said. It's that Connor has continually shown he isnt good enough for our seniors.
Naish and Snarlin are showing good signs.

And last year we did exactly the opposite of TMas' suggestion. we moved on our depth and got rid of our plug and play reserves.
It gave great opportunities to the kids and some have taken it. Menadue didnt.

Markov is contracted for 2020,so is KMac. Connor ain't
no contract, not taking his afl chances. the writing is on the wall.
Let's hope he plays a blinder in the vfl gf
