Speaking of ChamberlaIn, ain't he just the model AFL employee? The AFL has revealed that 'percentage of the game within a 2-goal margin' is a metric, so when GWS got the jump he dutifully pulled a few out of his arse for Brisbane. I pray we don't get him, I'd almost rather Deboy.

I must say those three inexplicable frees in a row to get Brisbane's first goal did rile up the conspiracy theorist in me. Channel 7 didn't even try to explain them or show replays.

All nudge nudge wink wink nothing to see here!

Fox/Channel 7 rarely replay questionable frees ( unless its a shot at goal etc). The powers to be dont want the umpires to look (even more) incompetent

Is there anything worse than listening to writers talk about writing? I think it was David Lynch who said, "the art is the answer".

to paraphrase the acutely underrated PRE'er Michael

'If I want to sit and listen to a tortured non gender specific person from Daylesford discussing their book about the complex intergeneration relationships of 4 non-violent, middle-class, recreational horse women as they navigate a reflective and revealing journey to a legendary vegan leather crop maker in county Derry'

I'd go to the Byron Writers Festival

Im going to email them and suggest they book Ray Chamberlain.

Just on umpire Ryan 's directive not to touch injured players..
On one hand I understand it's a bad look but surely the onus falls mainly on the medical staff & the injured player as to whether they should be out there if they're too badly injured. We play a very physical contact sport & of course the opposition will be looking to exploit an injured player if they can.
I just don't think it's the role of the umpire to protect players, that's the medical staff's job & if players aren't fit to play & they can risk further injury, then they shouldn't cross the white line. It's that simple.

I'm ok with it. If he gets hit in the contest so be it. But if players start punching and hitting an injured spot well of the ball then I think they need to be stopped.

Its not what sport should be about.

I agree that if a player is in the hands of trainers or medical staff & coming off the ground for treatment then anything in that area is a dog act.
However if you're declared fit to play & sent back out there, then a hard hit or tackle will do far more damage to a player than a tap on the arm.
Medical staff should be making decisions on players fitness, not umpires.

It is the same thinking ie unsportsman like behaviour like that Hawthorn defender - Stratton l think - pinching and hitting the opposition forward

I think it even dates back further to when the Scott brothers (bless their salty paws ) went after the St Kilda captain , Nick R at the Gabba.

A rule was brought in then but the umpires were asked to do more after the Ben Stratton pinchy pinchy episode where the umpires chose to do nothing. Huge uproar then and huge uproar now but the other way around ( cause the umpires acted this time ).

And before that there was Steve Kretiuk/Matthew Lloyd. The AFL investigated and made a statement that it was a bad example to young players, but there was no penalty.

Needs clarification.

From memory it was St. Kildas Steven Baker that was doing something similar a long time back..

Its a terrible look and like anything if the umpires are on to it it would stop, everyone is very critical of umpires which I am to at times, perhaps they should be unmiked so their every conversation isn't nitpicked through the media.

For me it's simple. If you decide to play injured then you are open to any LEGAL tactic that is allowable if you weren't injured. It's not up to the umpires to make rash, uninformed, unprofessional decisions on the injury severity and status of 44 players during a game.

Just like the studs up rule, the AFL are now using a rule introduced to deal with a different issue to justify its use in this example.

Reiwoldt was coming off the ground injured with trainers when that happened. And that was the purpose of the rule introduction, not to interfere with an injured player being helped off by trainers.

Ben Stratton pinching. The player he was pinching wasn't injured. Purposely pinching should be banned regardless. Easy resolution. Different issue imo.

That’s right Tiger Tough.!
Baker. Forgot that incident but I still think the Nick R was the catalyst.
