I found this statement in an article on Motlop's compensation:
In 2015, the compensation formula changed. It meant that a club would only receive first round compensation if the player’s new contract ranked them in the top five per cent of earners aged 25 and older.

Is Brando likely to be that high at the Suns?

I don't think it's just at the Suns, I think it is across the whole competition as they're trying to evaluate a player's worth of loss within the competition. So does that incorporate the contract across the whole 5 years, or just the upcoming year? Everything is so vague. I think it is purposely vague.

The AFL will bend us over.
They will try to get the compo pick around the 30-40 mark.
That gets me angry because Collingwood were shipping duds off after 2011 and getting gold returns.

As bad ellis can be he is a 2 time premiership player.
It should automatically be a selection after our first
26 years old, 2 time premiership player.
What would scott say if it was one of his Geelong players??

"Clubs can appeal the compensation decision, but none has chosen to as yet. The AFL can also intervene and change the compensation - as some thought it should in the Motlop case - if it feels that the outcome is an anomaly."

Brando may have been unreliable, but he played some very good footy for us and he played his role. The fact that The Suns are willing to pay so much for him indicates to me they want to learn some of the culture lessons from Richmond, this is not just about his ability as a player. The Suns could sure do with a hand in that department. Look at GWS and how they managed to sign Coniglio, they at least have some buy in from their players, can't see that at The Suns. Then again, maybe trying to grow a culture on the Gold Coast is a fool's errand, not possible.

We'll see how he goes, I hope he does well wherever he ends up. Often frustrating but put in a lot of effort for Richmond so it is great to see no ill will from Richmond.

Poor bastard. Even after 2 flags he isn’t worth a first rounder.
He will join up with familiar faces in Ellis & Miles and Hopefully the 3mill sets him and his family up.
Good luck

A good Tiger career
And I’ll happily follow his progress closely and hope he does well up there.
And I’ll be happy to clap him when we play them too
He’s a good story Brando

I know it’s not practical, but I’d love to see the fallout for Gold Coast and the AFL if we matched the offer.

They need premiership players like Brando to work up there.

welp.
Nothing but admiration for Brandon. If he's doing this just to ensure his family has a comfortable living, then the utmost kudos to him. Would happily cheer for him taking a shot after the siren to beat us.

Brando has been a good servant of the club and done us proud on many occasion but the money he has been offered. he would be a fool to knock back so good luck to the guy. The only downside with this move is it is unlikely he will touch another premier cup or medal.

Good luck to Brando but it will be very different for him without our star players around him. I always admired his effort and hard running but on $550k per year, the Suns might expect him to be a match-winner not just a 14 or 15 possession role-player. There will be more pressure on his disposal efficiency since the Suns players won't have the skills to recover from his sometimes wayward kicks so I hope they are clear on exactly what they are getting. Hope he fits in quickly and enjoys his time at the Suns with Miles and Corey Ellis.

I fear GC think they have secured a Luke Hodge, but in reality Brando was a very good role player in the best team in the league.

Scotty i would say so if thats the NEW criteria!

Who would be the other 10 players above Brando's salary?
Where did you pluck the number 10 from, 5% of players over 25 in the AFL? If so thats a pretty easy questions.

If its 5% of players at Gold Coast, thats only two players and I am pretty sure there will be more than two at Gold Coast earning more than Brando. In fact, GC has to pay its full salary cap so after the departure of May and Lynch I think you will find there are some pretty ordinary footballers getting top dollar a GC.

That’s what I meant Billy.

Should have referred my above estimate to GC.!

Sorry.

Still like to know how many would be above Brando if that’s the AFL criteria.

Farkin cheating pricks those AFL flogs. Can’t believe how dodgy this decision is.

I think Bellis will do better at GC than Richmond. He preferred a free running style than space accountable. Looking at his highlights he was/is better at contested ball if he met the contest on the run rather than stand and wait for the contest. I suspect GC won't be as team discipline and Brando will get to run up and down the ground all day collecting posessions at will.

Hope Brando enjoys life at the GC. he has been a good Tiger for us.

Having said that, I for one, will not miss him on the field.

For me, he was a handy player some of the time, but not a match winner by any stretch of the imagination.

More of a journeyman, IMHO.

Wish him well at his new club and hope he helps this struggling club to win a few more games , but not against us of course.

We'll miss his elite running and link up play, but if we can cover for this we'll be fine.

Gc havent wasted any of their time.

When you see that package you realise just how good Brando could be when he was switched on.

Has it all.

GC have a leader there. Wouldnt be surprised if he is in the leadership group of the Suns !
