I'm looking forward to FIGJAM copy cat trawling every jail in the county and recruiting a stack of troubled footballers to his club, rubbing his hands with glee at the prospect of 6 or 8 Marlion Pickett like footballers running around in Collingwood colours.

Only to then have them form a gang that do smash and grab robberies all around Collingwood, we can then out bid FIGJAM on eBay for Collingwood's own missing silverware and on sell their cups to an antique shop since almost all of them pre date the Boer Wars!

Essendon aren’t good. There list is woeful.
But what do you expect when your list manager is Dododododoro.
I agree 100% considering they have not won a Final in 15 yrs the hype around them every summer is astounding. Thier fans are glad they maintained thier list in trade time? so are we!

With or without Daniher they are still a middle of the road side.

Looking forward to the defence getting a lot better.

Looking at it we only have 2 players (Broad and Short) who are not elite.

Stack replacing Short and Balta replacing Broad would make us even harder to score against, create more turnovers and provide more drive from the back.
I know that moving Stack back to defence is probably a backwards step but it was where he played his best footy.......
And Balta hasn't yet shown he has the mindset to take over from Broad but that athletic ability and monster kicking.......

You're underselling Broad. Not glamorous, not special, but does his job well. This year he stayed anchored to the back line but when we had Rance you'd often see Broad carrying the ball forward.

Calling him not elite - not sure how that is underselling him? Can only assume you think he is elite?

Personally agree with redan, Broad and Short not elite. But no shame in that, Broad is a role player with some flexibility. No doubting his application or courage.

When I think elite mid size defenders I think Grimes/Vlastuin/Haynes/Sicily/Hurn. The AA selectors would include Stewart but he's never done it in the big games.

Add Stack who is an elite everywhere.

You assume wrongly. Replacing Broad with Balta would not make us a better team imo. Maybe 2021, but not next year.

Rance and Graham walk into the team in Round 1
Stack and Ross very likely to be in for R1
Others with claims include:
Menadue, Balta and Jack H

If we assume four ins, then who goes out?
Brando, Short, Broad and Caddy?

Intriguing...

You don't have to worry about Menadue

Redan did admit Balta was not yet ready to take over from Broad, and given your statement above not sure you are really arguing against what he said anyway? Is he really underselling Broad?

Reality is with Rance back it does place a bit more pressure on Broad's spot. Is Balta the same type - not really IMO but he has been groomed in the backline at VFL level at stages.

Good problems to have.

I said Broad is under rated and I stand by that. Balta's not a shutdown defender like Broad and I don't think he ever will be.

If you're just trying to nitpick my post for the sake of nitpicking, I'm really not in the mood. Find someone else to play with.

This is bang on, like Astbury does a defensive job each week, BTW Astbury didn't conceed 1 disposal in the GF not that it ever gets a mention.

I'm looking forward to more innovation in 2020. How about this for audacious?

The Tigers become the first club to adopt a situation selection policy. That is, we pick the side on a horses-for-courses basis.

The coach hinted at such a thing late in the season when discussing the way he'd deploy the rucks. Not only did he talk about 1 ruck vs 2 rucks but he also considered varying the mix of Chol, Nankervis and Soldo depending on the opponent.

With a list as deep as ours, could you imagine each player being managed for, say, 15 games in the H&A then hitting the finals as fresh as a daisy?

And could you imagine analysis so deep and insightful that even the great players (Rance, Martin, etc) are rested for matches because they are surplus to needs on any given week?

Yeah, I know players want to play and continuity is important.

But look at how damn fresh we were on grand final day, in part on the back of Caddy, Cotchin, Nankervis, Riewoldt, Pickett and Short missing big chunks of the season.

And we did it while "walk-up starts" Rance, Stack, Grigg, Graham and Higgins weren't even there.

It was also great to see CCJ, DES, Balta, Naish and Ross get good game time this season... and not look out of place.

Of course it won't happen, but if any club has the list to pull it off, it's ours.

I'd love to see it No8 and agree we could pull it off.

aim to get to the Bye 8:5, with the old fellas (Cotchy, Bachar, JR, Sheds, Rancey) and Nank rotated, having a month off each, and kept fresh.

Essentially, deliberately doing what we were forced to do this year.

and yeah get games into RCD CJC Naish Eggs Balta JRoss Higlet

Like you say, we could utilise our depth

and extend the careers of our ageing champs and plan a seamless succession of young blokes in one gloriously innovative plan

and dominate and infuriate everyone else for another decade.

I'm looking forward to how teams deal with the tagger problem against Richmond. Who do they tag, Rance or Grimes?
