I certainly see the potential of Egg and happy we have re-signed him. Aarts - not so sure of. Kind of surprised we are keeping him ahead of Cal Moore or even Menadue. Yet to make a debut, and was his VFL form that promising? Sure, we traded Butler, but will Aarts be able to step up and threaten to force his way into our AFL team ahead of the other SFs?
I know they'd been there longer and failed to secure a spot in the AFL side, but still have belief that M or M could make it as AFL players. The Bummers interested in Moore apparently. As I kept saying all year. Moore has the size and speed to play elsewhere than just forward. Would be great to have kept for depth if injuries strike again - and that's certain - they will.
Just think Moore was really unlucky this year to cop a nasty LT injury when there were openings in the senior side. Could have shown he is up to it. Would hate to see him succeed at the Bummers.
Unfortunately for Callum he cant reliably kick which would be a disaster in the back line, the media keep saying we trialled him back this year, I go to most VFL games & i am buggered if I remember any

His ideal spot for me is as a key forward occasionally playing up the the ground HFF/ wing

Aarts body shape has changed significantly since being in a full time environment, I can see him playing some games next year

Just a quick reply now as have to get ready for work this arvo. Looked into it a touch more and I'd say with Jake, they probably want to see if he can make it because of the pressure he can exert; harder at it than a Butler for example. But I just wondered as he's virtually 2 years older than both Moore and Menadue.
Better response coming this evening.

I'm covering similar ground here as before in my comments on Moore. I believe his kicking definitely improved over his time at RFC. He can certainly kick it long, field kicking is not too bad while his goal-kicking ... well not much worse than others. They all miss, Jack goes off at times and even Lynch misses some easy ones. Is Cal worse than Castagna? No way. Even Short, noted for his boot, turns it over fairly often and I used to find Houli's aimless bombs frustrating for a long time too. But Moore's a top athlete, at 193cm, with that leap and sheer speed which makes him a threat on the ground.
Sure the club seemed to lock him in as a KF at VFL level, the back-up for JR8. Then we got Lynch and CM got injured. Unlucky for him, but retains the athletic profile for the modern game; big, fast, strong aerobically and hard at it.
It doesn't mean he couldn't still go downfield and be tried elsewhere as he played back and even wing in his junior and early VFL years.
As I said, still think both he and Menadue might make useful players; just will hate to see us reap nothing much from all our investment - if either achieve it at lesser clubs.
But then again, the club gets little wrong these days. Sometimes though, guys get few chances with top players in premiership teams securing spots for years, with mixed injury timings. And who would have expected Stack and Pickett to come on so immediately. But a long way to go before any of these guys' careers are all confirmed as successful, or done.

I was a little surprised to see Moore let go, but I read into that that the club sees Coleman-Jones as needing some game time next year and with Lynch and Jack still around, plus Chol, opportunities were looking very thin for Moore.

But I'm saying that he could have been tried even on the wing in Ellis' position, or as a tall half-back sometime. Basically kept as a utility who may have been a handy replacement for injured players whether back, mid or forward. He doesn't have to be played KF, and is just not required for any ruck role when there are four ahead of him if you include Balta.
One of our few weaknesses is that we are not a super marking team, so it's a pity to let one go who could bolster that when he's relatively untried and copped a LT injury at just the wrong time.
Anyway, I'll probably be proved wrong. We''ll see.

I wasn't responding to your posts specifically, just making a general comment.

I don't get to see the VFL, so I have only seen Moore when he has played at AFL level. I was impressed with his ability to make the contest and force the ball to ground, which I guess is linked to the athletic ability you describe.

Nank, Soldo, Chol, CCJ and Balta.

We are in such a good position with our rucks.

They are all role players at this time, none are elite, however, CCJ has great potential and both he, Chol and Balta are versatile types who after another couple of years with their current contracts will be ready to step up and fulfil our senior ruck role or be sought out by other clubs with trade value attached.

At this time, I believe all will make it at senior level, with Chol the least likely though he has shown he can play at the level albeit inconsistently.

I think you're spot on. Moore's disposal and decision-making is relatively poor. There's no way he is making it as a backman. Forward or nothing but he was already behind CCJ and Chol. Understandable decision to let him go.

They've updated the website so only currently contracted players now still on, but you can still find the Coaches' Corner edition on Cal with Richo and Fly McCrae with a little searching or on the App.. Edited comments from our esteemed VFL coach who has had CMoore for 4/5 years there following his impressive return-from-injury game on the G where he kicked 4 against NBlues:

- ... outstanding growth ... speed really stands out on the G ... outstanding marking ability at (this) level ... good skills and finishes his work.
- his GPS results a real standout ... He can get the ball at ground level and his finishing ... a real feature ... Can get the ball out back because he's so quick. With his running ability he offers something different from [Jack and Tom]
- He ... can play forward and BACK ... even a bit of experimenting in the ruck

This was posted Aug.13 this year. Sure, they're talking him up in this segment for the fans, but still. It makes it hard to decide whose opinion to give more weight on here.

Or maybe it's like I said; "Sometimes though, guys get few chances with top players in premiership teams securing spots for years, with mixed injury timings. "

Unfortunately it didn't click for him from that point on on. Only kicked 3 goals 1 behind from the next 4 games.

And Jack Riewoldt only kicked 5 goals in rounds 19 - 22. I, like many, thought he was struggling upon return from injury. Actually thought he had lost a metre and some spring, even kicking and decision-making didn't look that sharp. But he proved any doubters wrong obviously, coming back to form in the final H&A match V lions. Aside from no goals in the PF, never looked back. So form fluctuates, especially after return from injury, and loss of conditioning which can show up more after the first ebullient game back. JR8's bad patch followed after kicking 1, then 3, in his first 2 back from his injury.

You amuse me TL. You virtually respond to my in-depth reply to Taz, although indirectly, like a drive-by or sideswipe. But never to all the points I raise in support of my view. You like to just pick out snippets like the above, although at least this time, you graced me with a direct reply. BTW, if you watch Fly's full interview with Richo, he acknowledges that leg injuries take longer to return to form from because you cannot run for rehab!

Maybe try addressing my full post. But, did you note this snippet re Fly's judgements: "It makes it hard to decide whose opinion to give more weight on here."

Sorry that's your belief. I merely responded to Taz because I agreed with his view. Nothing to do with your post. I don't even think I had read your post when I responded to his. PRE is not all about you I'm afraid. Reiwoldt is a champion at the back end of his career with nothing more to prove. Frankly I don't understand the comparison with Moore. Moore has gone. Time to put it behind us.

Well, sorry if I'm not convinced by your first claim, given that you jump in to back Taz's response [#981] to my post but choose to ignore how I then responded [#983] except to criticise one petty snippet [#990] - surely you are not denying that is a response to mine! - while again ignoring the holistic contexts of my comment. But, then, Taz hasn't got around to replying either. That's fine ; his prerogative - it's all free speech. But I'd already responded about Moore's kicking or ability to play at either end or mid.
But it's only fair to consider a poster's full comment rather than nitpick on something petty, which I addressed in my next reply anyway
As for all about me!? Don't think so; I only bother occasionally these days which is reflected in our meassges. Your's double mine. Maybe the guy who thinks it's all about him is looking at you in the mirror, also reflected by jumping into dialogues; having to have an opinion on everything but ... nitpicking very selectively.
The comparison with JR is totally valid in context - comparing KPFs - return from leg-injuries - goal-kicking accuracy - and it was common knowledge CMoore was a back-up for JR, especially pre-Lynch, if injury occurred which Fly stated.
Moore has been cut and I was commenting on whether the Dummers might take him. In theory, we could probably rookie him again or whatever, but most unlikely. The relevance is that I'm arguing he might still be a handy depth player or better.

Feel free to try a full, comprehensive response (to anything) whenever you can be bothered ... but I'm not holding my breath, don't worry.

So I’ve had a look and it’s true

the club has surprisingly updated the player list which usually takes 6 months.

miller is on a senior list of 33.
we can have between 38 & 40 seniors.
Apparently the rookie list (a) is 5 and (b) 1
Senior & rookie has to = 44

so if the draft was tonight we can take 5-6.
We can’t go up to 40 seniors because we have 5 (a) rookies already.

Something seriously wrong with you mate. I said that I replied to Taz's post because I agreed with it. I hadn't looked at your post that he replied to in any detail, I rarely do. That's a fact. Take it or leave it mate, frankly I don't care.

Can you still promote a rookie to the main list before the rookie draft? As I understand you can't demote a player from the list to a rookie so maybe previous rookies have kept that status until it's clear what we end up recruiting in the national draft. Then we could promote a rookie or two to the main list and recruit new rookies.

Only got back to look at this thread now. Mate, I think you are just a really weak, flakey poster to be frank. Take it or leave it. Just don't bother responding to any of my posts then, since you are so pathetic. Hollow vessel.

previously all players including rookies had their contracts expire at the end of October.
so if they weren’t contracted, they were delisted.
It gives them all the same opportunity to get to a new club before the season ends.

thanks TF.
just to check, and I think that this is what you are saying that the cat B rookie (eggs) isnt included in the total 44.
so we have seniors 33 rookie A 5 so can take 6 draftees in total.

Wow very mature response. Why does PRE allow this repetitive behaviour? True colours showing out. We've all seen it before.

First you complain I'm not responding to your posts, now you suggest l don't respond. Which one is it big boy...lol?

To make it easier for the rest of PRE who are I am sure disinterested in this petty bickering I've placed you on ignore. I suggest you do the same.
