It’s been widely reported from Jon Ralph in the HUN and various other media (including social) over the last few days.

Yes I understand based on HS report this morning that SOS will participate in this draft and then move on.

Right on. Carlton will be relying on youngsters to pick up their game over the next couple of years. The problem is their current stars are over the hill and won't be there to participate. Unlike the Tigers, who have been able to time the growth of the youngsters in with the peak of the experienced players, Carlton won't have that luxury.

Simpson 35, Betts 32, Murphy 32, Kruezer 30, Ed Curnow 30, Casboult 30

Carlton will surely get to a middle of the road team. Will they be able to take the next step to a premiership window? Hard to see it at this stage.

Yes, there is still that list gap that bit St.Kilda after Lyon departed - a handful of dependable veterans, some new draft picks and very few core players 25-28yo. St.Kilda tried to short-cut by recruiting mature-age players and failed, as did Carlton. Their strategy is absolutely dependent on bringing in top quality free agents of Coniglio's ilk if they're going to be successful in the next four years or so. Otherwise as you say, they'll reach mid-table and tread water or go backwards as the veterans depart.

Cripps, Docherty, Newman, Jones, McGovern, Plowman, Newnes, Casboult are all of their current 24-29yo's. Not very deep.

Doesn't make sense really. So they are supposedly getting rid of SOS, after he does this year's draft selections late November.
If you are sacking him, have no confidence in him to keep him on as list manager effectively, why would you have him involved in choosing draftees that club will be tied to for next few years more or less? o_O

Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find
I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind
Whatever happened to our love?
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice, it used to be so good
So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
S. O. S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
S. O. S.
When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?

That's a fair call but the list manager doesn't get to select the 22 either.

Well if Silvagni or anyone else at Carlton had said they should be playing more kids early in Bolton's tenure I would've agreed. They were the 6th-oldest team in Malthouse's last year and still 6th-oldest in Bolton's first. It was farcical.

Why Brendon Bolton is the best coach of this era

It was April 2015 when the phrase "66-game rebuild" entered the Carlton lingo, supposedly Silvagni's blueprint. They are well into a second 66 games now, although he didn't arrive until January 2015 so should be forgiven that season, I guess.

I think what you are accurately describing there is GWS's list management was pretty smart

No my original assertion was with the picks GWS had even granny Fay could have got the first couple of years of picks right. SOS was there for the easiest years. He proved nothing during his tenure there.

List management and drafting aside, can’t have been easy for SOS to have two sons at the Blues and potentially another next year. Reckon that might have played a big part in this. No doubt he wants to give them some room to develop without his presence overshadowing in the background.

Would they have selected all 3 if SOS wasn't overseeing list management?

The Blues fans I've spoken to recently think they're a red hot chance in round 1. We need to put this 'Blue resurgence' back in it's box.

They're making comments like "our list is the envy of every other club" among conspiracy theories about the AFL stepping in on Coniglio and Martin to thwart Carlton and keep them down. Some of them are quite pathetic.

Meh, let them enjoy the off-season. Their pain will resume soon enough.

Jack Martin has declared he wants $1m for season 2020 but just $3m over the period of the 5 year contract he’s seeking.

so $1m for his first season then $2m over the next 4 ($500k a season)

The Age claims: "A source indicated the total terms are in excess of $3 million for the five years." Just hilarious. Looks like GCS and even the Dees won't have a bar of him at this price.
Who or what has led JM to believe he justifies this price? What has he shown to deserve this kind of $$?
It's going to be such fun watching the Blooz handle this one. SOS's final gift, his legacy?
Or, will they try to crawl away from his highly inflated valuation. Going to be a laugh. AFL better be ensuring no dodgy dealing going on here.
