What that article tells me is this

Beams goy a **** load from brisbane then when due to get 500k for 2 years went to the pies for $450k x 4 years

So the pies will have him on their books until the end of 2022 paying him $450k for having a holiday

Perfect

Beams isn't on 400, more like 600 to 700.
Brisbane were paying him a truck load when they got him out of collingwood.

Collingwood got Degoey & Crisp out of the beams trade..
2 years ago it looked like a ripper trade. But typical Collingwood they have turned it into to shiitt now.
If you take to account what they gave up to get Beams back.

Duty of care in what sense? He was an employee who wanted to move to a rival organisation.

For starters:

>Carlton just wanted to hand ball Yarran to another club (it is not like Yarran got to go home with more outside support).
>Cartlton played hard ball in the draft period, and made a player with mental health issues wait till the final day of the draft, when Carlton dropped their first round asking price and took less, rather than be left with the responsibility of caring for one of their own.

I'm not sure those two positions go together, wanting to get rid of him but playing hard ball on an offer.

That is my point.
Carlton were always going to trade Yarran.

Carlton could have helped Yarran get to his club of choice, on day one of trading, for a fair pick.
Instead, Carlton dragged out negotiations till the last day of the draft, before accepting the fair pick offered on day one.

Is that how you treat a player with issues (created under your watch)?
Treat the damaged person purely like a commodity, stringing out the time before that person knows for sure that they can move on with their life?

Call it negotiating tough, or whatever you like .....
In the end, to me it is just another example of the terrible culture at Carlton ..... good luck Liddle!

At the end of the day Carlton just did what we and Yarran wanted. They got a pick, we got the player we wanted and Yarran got where he wanted to go.

Unfortunately we were the ones that botched the Yarran deal, zero blame on anyone else. Even if we didn't know about his off-field issues (which would make us the only people in the AFL), then his on-field behaviour should have been enough to never touch him.

Fortunately we were lucky enough to recover quickly from it and get back to where we are, largely by demoting the people responsible.

Yep I tend to agree. Carlton were holding out for a higher pick than #19 which the Tigers were trying to negotiate thus holding up the deal. Yarran indicated he wanted a fresh start. Sometimes that's all a player requires to get back on track. Didn't work out in the case of Yarran. We should have done our homework a bit better. As the Tigers said later, sometimes you have to take a risk to get the rewards and that was definitely how Tigers saw it with Yarran.

Yes totally agree

Compared to the tigers, most of our deals when a player wants to leave are done at the beginning of the draft and our approach is to look after the player in the first instance.

You can’t win every trade by a country mile - if you adopt that strategy like the bummers or blues, no one will want to trade with you.

Yep. Figgy's got 2 years otherwise it's the chop from the feral chokers.

Not if Eddies there.

Maybe they will revolt and throw them both out.

Unlikely though.

Long may they wait for another shot along with the Bastard Cheats from Princess Park and the other bastard cheats from Tullamairine.

Let's do our best to help Bucks continue on to immortality:)

Bucks, some advice: leave Collingwood now! 4 flags since 1936, history is against you, Collingwood have not been a flag winning side for 80 years.

I'm going to love seeing the reaction of the Collingwood faithful if Dayne Beams turns up on this reality TV Program!

. From memory Zips when Beams went to Brisbane his contract was heavily front loaded. The moment he got to the back end he wanted out hence Brisbane played it harder.

Beams was due on close to $500K for 2019/2020 season at Brisbane (received much more in his earlier years as alluded to). Apparently Collingwood, due to salary cap isues, needed to spread Beams 4 year contract salary over longer period so conceivably is on $400K a year.

Anyway you look at, Beams reamed Brisbane and now looks certain to ream collingwood.
Where was the "Due Diligence" by collingwood??

Yes these front-loaded contracts are fraught with danger. Will probably happen with Jack Martin at Carlton too. First 2 years at $1mill per season. Wow.
