Interesting watching Shane Edwards highlights on the club website, tiers the end he dabs a kick from about 55m out that sails through by about 5m.

Am effortless 60m dab!

Looking at the team of the century candidates got me thinking.

Who will have the greater legacy at RFC - Shane Edwards or Brett Deledio?

Ooooh. Fill in Captain when everyone else was falling off the perch. Ball movement n gap finding superb. Quality finals performances n two flags. Gotta be the Shed

Shane that's a simple one to answer now for me with 2 (hopefully 3 flags) and his leadership and on field, and the mentoring of the Aboriginal Lads and the kids at the Institute.

Holds a bigger stake as a leader at the RFC than those outside of it would realise.

Bretts greatest influence was his decision to actually leave.

Had Brett not actually left we would not have had the ability to bring in Nank, Caddy and Dion along with drafting Graham, which was the move that effectively helped the RFC to the rise in 17 and ultimately the flag.

2013 final he had 24 possessions, 2014 he had 29 and 2015 he had 17. Shedda had 12, 11 and 8 in the corresponding games. We also forget that our winning record with Lids playing was superior to when he didn’t and used to be commented on. Post Richo and before Dusty’s emergence Lids was our best player, that he didn’t stand up in big games is a myth that has been debunked on this site quite a few times.
That being said Shedda has since played very well in finals and is of course a dual premiership player but we shouldn’t rewrite history

Shedda has clearly aged well and his body has held together (touch wood), giving him a clear advantage now. No sleight intended on Lids, it is simply the beneficial legacy of two premierships that many of the current team has.

I love everything that Shedda has become, the player, the leader, the mentor and the person.

I just went back to mid 2017 on this thread and most comments said Shed is useless and should be delisted. Fast forward three months and all of a sudden Shed is now the best thing since sliced bread. Amazing how many of us suddenly realised that the new game plan matches Sheds skills so well and people suddenly see the 'didn't see' sleight of hand, running through gaps that weren't there and selfless play. Now even the most ardent detractors realise Sheds value.

Totally agree about the game plan UKT. Saw bits of our 2016 games vs the Pies (Grundy's late goal) and the Swans (Lloydy's posr-siren goal) on Fox Footy and our gameplan was just horrible (as we knew). Chip backwards or sideways at all costs. The frantic ball movement nowhere to be seen. The current gameplan suits Shedda perfectly and he is brilliant to watch. Lids was a great servant, but Shedda has him covered.

Edwards 13 seasons, Deledio 12; Edwards a late maturer, Deledio a star from his first year.

I love the player Edwards has become in the past two-and-a-bit seasons, and you could make a case that it's been as good as any equivalent period from Deledio (although very different in style). But over the duration of their careers there is no contest.

No contest.
Edwards has played in 2 Premiership teams and featured in the best 6 players for most final games between 2017/19.
That is what history will reflect and supporters will remember.
Delidio will be in the Wayne Campbell basket of past great players. Uncomfortable conversations and split loyalties.

Without drawing on stats, I can't ever remember seeing Lids play a game as breathtaking as Sheds best.

Sheds will be remembered by the people who really understand the game, as one of the all-time greats of not just Richmond, but the game.

Its not denigrating Lids, his skill set of speed and power and class is a pretty standard champion midfielders skill set.

Sheds has a skill set that is without peer.

"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our club and other clubs, it is the latter category that tend to be the difficult ones..... "
attribution Donald Rumsfield with a bit of license taken!

I reckon its a known known we don't win 2 flags without Shane's contribution and it's a known unknown if we win them with lids ;)
