Not sure whether it's true, or just folklore. Viv Richards hit a huge six and the commentator is alleged to have said that there's two canals outside the ground, and that the ball had cleared the far canal.
:mhihiTwo words I use, but some probably don't know how to pronounce it.

Not so well known in Australia but this one is legendary in England:
It should be compulsory education for any student of cricket (or schoolboy humour)! If this doesn't bring a tear to your eye you have problems...

The 50 second mark.. All hell breaks loose.

Michael Holding was the commentator

The farcical rules surrounding what is a “catch” raised its head again last night in the BBL when Matt Renshaw took an outfield catch but his running momentum was going to take him over the boundary rope. So he throws the ball up in the air then momentum has taken him outside the boundary rope. So he jumps in the air and pats the ball to a nearby teammate who completes the catch. So even though he and the ball were outside the field of play but because his feet weren’t touching the ground it was a legal catch. Ridiculous.

Just simplify the rule for gods sake. If the catch is completed inside the field of play but momentum takes you outside the field of play it’s a catch!

I agree that the current situation is a farce but I disagree with the solution.
I think that the catcher must stay completely within the rope for the duration, otherwise it's a six.
You wouldn't have been able to even get beyond the boundary in the good old days when it was a fence.
But they will never do it because it would remove all those spectacular catches from the game.

Why is it a six? If the fieldsman catches it 5 metres in from the boundary and keeps running and goes over the rope that’s a 6? The ball hasn’t been hit OVER the boundary.

Only saw the video just now. You can't be positioned outside the boundary when the bowler delivers the ball, so I don't see how grounding your feet outside the boundary and batting the ball back into play can be deemed legitimate. It just feels fundamentally wrong.

Also has the effect of producing more boundaries/faster scoring, however I think it was brought in to reduce injuries from players diving into the fence. As long as the same boundaries apply for both teams, I don't see the definition of the boundary itself as a major issue apart from traditionalism.

Aust won the toss and are bowling in the 1st ODI in India.
I'll be interested to see how Ashton Turners goes, i can't believe he made the squad to tell you the truth, I know he had 1 big game in India last year, but he has done zilch since then.
Surprised Richardson is playing ahead of Hazelwood.

India 4/156. I'm a big fan of Pant who has just come in to bat, looking forward to watching him bat.

Just read that Melbourne Stars rotate (rest) their fast bowlers so Harris Rauf won’t play in Perth so he can “freshen up”. Coulter-Nile and Dan Worrell have had their rest.

Bloody hell, they bowl 4 OVERS a game!

Gee last night’s game was a fizzer. The Stars are the best team in it, can they get over their mental demons to win the final, or do another Collingwood style choke for Eddie?

It’s odd programming that on the nights Fox has the exclusive telecast of the Aus/India ODIs that they also get exclusive telecast of the BBL meaning that there’s no FTA cricket on these nights.
