Putting aside whether you think he's doing a good or bad job handling this crisis. ...... at a time where we should be showing care for eachother, it's hard not to say...... that he's a - - - - -'- horrible human being!
Haaarrrgh. Romney n the Trumpster seriously dislike one another. Seeing as Romney jumped the fence to schmooze up to Fancy Nancy n try to impeach the Trumpster a few weeks back. It's no bloody surprise old Trumpy would be happy to return a dose of the slipper when Romney's arse is getting a bit of a toasting.

Our mob of Pollies might be fairly useless, but I'll take ours over the Septics any day.

They do hate it each other but Romney didn’t try and impeach Trump. All he did was to vote to allow witnesses at his senate trial.

Whatever it was exactly, he was bustin his balls against his own party to assist the Dems to run through the Trumpster. The whole *smile* thing was a farce from day one and achieved nothing more than a *smile* load of time n money wasted.

If the Republicans had any balls they could have dumped Trump and spared the country of Trump raving on with BS every night on primetime now. Case in point...

Pence is an insane religious nutjob but at least seems competent in terms of the Corona response task force. We could have had him as a marginal improvement.

Just watch, Trump will fire Fauci next. A guy who is smart, expert and is not afraid of saying when Trump says something idiotic.

I agree. There must be a better way to get rid of the moron in the Whitehouse.
Romney just drew the line, he’d had enough.

Again, its funny, none of the Trump fans will speak up anymore, despite no change in the way Trump conducts himself.

I guess we put up with shitty leaders when times are good, when they are bad we realise the value of a good leader. Obama wasn't perfect but he had the guts to make tough decisions during the GFC and he would have made tough decisions here too, instead of treating national briefings like campaign rallies, saying idiotic things, and being totally self-obsessed.

Not backing trump here, but flicked over to Sky News to watch Scomos press conference tonight, and he showed a list of some of the demands that the Dems were trying to include in the package they are trying to get through to support the US economy. Some of them were ridiculous and not the time or place for it. Things like changes to online voting, things like if they bail out the airlines that they should regulate that they would reduce emissions etc by 2025, like trying to push through the minimum wage increase now to $15. Now whilst that last one is important, this is not the time to be doing it. Quite ridiculous to be politicising this now, and in Australia Albanese should be applauded for not going down this route.

I thought you didn’t like bailouts?

I don't. And if governments do bailout corporations, they should retain equity in those companies so when times are good, the tax payer benefits.

Other things he did - around 500 million on infrastructure in health, education and infrastructure. Tax cuts for working families - at least you supported this one G?

Infrastructure spend was a waste of resources, it required more debt on top of debt that won’t be paid back. Tax cuts I love but they need to be combined with a drop in spending, otherwise the government just replaces it with inflation.

That was so ridiculous it was funny. I found myself laughing whilst watching it.

All these initiatives, whether some or all were right or wrong, got the US economy going again so in that sense they worked. The libertarian approach of cutting spending would have resulted in severe austerity and much longer recession.

No it didn’t, all it did was burn the furniture so we could stay warm a bit longer. Well the furniture is gone now and it ain’t getting warmer.

The only solution to this mess is to allow the bankrupt organisations to fail, to stop meddling in the market so prices can reflect reality and to return to sound money.

One thing I agree with you on - boom bust capitalism, disaster capitalism and the current systems we have right now suck.

You advocate for interventionism, that is what crony capitalism is!

If I had my way I'd abolish the whole lot. Our growth obsessed, planet destroying, 1% of the world's population controlling 44% of the wealth, crony capitalism in bed with governments to protect that 1%.

Ultimately humans will need to get by with fewer "things", there will probably need to be fewer of us, and we'll need to be much more cognizant of the actual real world we live in.

Perpetual growth with resources understood of as an "externality" is economic *smile* and destroys the planet.

There’s a bit to unpick there:
- whether the 1% controls 44% or 90% doesn’t tell you whether this is good or bad. The 1% also is not a static group of people, it involves much churn
- yes the politically influential use the government’s power to bestow advantages upon themselves. So isn’t the answer to remove the government’s power?
- growth can only be achieved by making labour more productive, something that should always be strived for. What we have now is growth fuelled by inflation which is not growth at all but fools many people for a long time.
- externalities, I assume you mean things like environmental damage. The best way to have that priced in correctly is to do away with public property and have properly understood and respected property rights. Only then can long term capital value incentives (such as a healthy environment) be considered in economic calculus.
