Great piece in The Age about Australia's ongoing relationship with China.

If the Libs are fair dinkum they will stop selling cattle stations and milk producers Dairy Farmers, Masters and Pura milk.

They already own iron ore producer Sino Iron, and have recently purchased (just a few months ago) another iron ore, rail and port operations in Wa.

Maybe it wouldn't be the disposable society it is today if things cost more. Maybe that would be better for the environment.
Maybe we'd create more jobs for Australians if things were made here again instead of relying on an untrustworthy trading partner.
Maybe we wouldn't have to kiss their ass & have our politicians corrupted by a foreign entity.
Maybe young Australians could afford housing if we made it extremely hard for foreigners to purchase Australian property.
Maybe life would be better if we & the rest of the world ditched them altogether.

Here's a country that won't even allow an investigation into how their virus started & now they're getting heavy handed?
Time to have a very good look at this abusive relationship.

TOO I’ve been on this( above you wrote for some time now).

We have start.

Sure it may cost us more short term but long term , my son might have a chance ( with some help , little from me) to purchase a home and not rent ( a home thats owed by ?) for his future.

Yes a very good article. No doubt the author will be labelled xenophobic by the woke and enlightened

Whatever, I can not comprehend how anyone can excuse or tolerate the actions of the Chinese Government. A number of examples were raised in the article, including the punishment of the doctor who first warned them of the virus.

It is a disgraceful regime.

Agree totally in principle but the boat on Pura (Lion) has long sailed. The Japanese bought them years ago and have just sold to the Chinese.

But selling the farm is the Libs' one-wood of 'good economic management'. If they stopped that all they'd have left would be raising the GST and cutting taxes for corporations and the rich.

Not sure anyone is tolerating or excuses the actions, but my point has always been how has China's response been any different to the US? They also sanctioned the Dr in Seatlle who raised the alarm that the virus was spreading fast while Don the Orange was still saying it's under control.

Look at where the US are now.

It's just my impression but I believe criticism of Trump and the USA on these pages with regards to COVID-19 has been more vociferous than that directed towards the Chinese Government. No doubt the criticism of Trump is justified; his response to the pandemic appears an abject disaster and massive failure. That said I haven't seen any reference to the Doctor in Seattle nor could I find a link on the web; would appreciate a link if you were happy to do so.

In any case I think there is a marked difference. I don't believe the Yanks arrested the Seattle doctor did they? Yes their inaction has most likely lead to substantially more infections and deaths in the USA. But the Chinese Government's deception and inaction let the cat out of the bag. A research study has found that if they had have locked down Wuhan in early January when they were made aware of the extremely contagious nature of the virus then the spread would have been contained to 5% of what we see now. Over 3 million infections and over 200K dead. But instead they arrested the doctorl

Yes China is much better placed than the USA now though there is some reasonable doubt on the validity of the published Chinese numbers (probably on the US numbers as well). However it's a little easier to control something like this under a totalitarian regime which limits the freedom of its citizens.

The next generation might not have a choice about their standard of living if China's aggressive global domination plan isn't put into check. If China took over the Pacific ocean and restricted trade in and out of Australia, and The Donald decided it wasn't anything to do with him, what choice would Gen Z have? Join the CCP? They may just have to harden the f up for the common good right now while Australia finds a new major trading partner. We did it when Britain cut us off in the 1970s to join the EU, with a bit of creative thinking we can do it again.

I agree with you that the Australian democratic system is limited to 3 year cycles of planning in the main. By contrast, the CCP has installed itself in power without any operative political rivals to deal with internally, and so they are able to plan decades into the future towards global Chinese rule. Our narcissistic small minded politicians across all parties only think and plan until the next election, and if letting China do what it wants with our land and resources helps them do that, that's what they do, e.g. selling water to China in drought stricken areas:
https://www.theguardian.com/environ...ning-operation-in-drought-stricken-queensland

Hopefully instead of a major global war, China's mishandling of Coronavirus and subsequent manoeuvring in the region can wake us the f up.

Great post .

Glad we are firing back. Can’t allow China to talk Australia down and just lay down.

It's refreshing isn't it? Long term gain might win out over short term cash injections.
I read a good article yesterday about Australia strengthening ties with South Korea over China. Sounds like a good first step.

But at the end of day let’s try and build Australia again.

The reason China has escaped criticism over Trump is purely because they've stonewalled information & what little info has been released has clearly been largely fabricated.
As their virus got out of control, it started with a defensive cover-up and censorship.
Now they're attempting to gas-light & flood a distracted world with propaganda as they look to rewrite their massive failures & save face.
It'll be a waste of time though, they'll be forever responsible for this monumental FU.

...and then billionaire mining prick, Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest hijacks an Australian government conference with his good mate, the Chinese Consul General Zhou Long, who repudiates Australia's criticism of China and praises the Chinese Communist Party's handling of the Coronavirus pandemic, pushing his country's agenda. Forrest stands off to one side, grinning like the complete prick he is, having spent years kissing up to China and making a tonne of cash for himself by selling Australian iron ore to them. Forrest also begs for any inquiry into the origins of COVID-19 to not start until AFTER the US elections. Sell-out scum bag. You can't make this stuff up.
