If we end up with something that resembles a comp and we win the Grand Final, all good. We're back to back and officially a Dynasty.
If the season is cancelled, fine. Can understand that and footy without crowds just isn't right.

But if they put together something and we don't win the Premiership, then it's a farce of the highest level. It should never have happened. It's made a mockery of our game. ******* money hungry AFL

Yes that is correct

If a comp goes ahead we need to win the whole thing this year and then back up and win next year. A threepeat which we can cheer and gloat about.

All the other club supporters - especially Geelong and Collingwood - can ramp up their saltiness and whining about this year should not be counted. We can smile at their distress

Imagine Dees win their first flag since 1964? Or the Saints win their first flag since 1966 in front nobody.
I'm sure their supporters would take it but geez all I wanted to do my whole life was see Richmond win a flag at the MCG.
It would be so bittersweet for their supporters not to be able to experience what it's all about.
I don't think we have to worry about either of those hypotheticals becoming reality.

I have the distinct feeling that if the AFL had come out and said the season is cancelled, the same posters would be writing about what a disgrace that is and how the AFL have stuffed it up by being over cautious.

I wouldn't.

Having said that, if this abomination of a cluster-*smile* season does go ahead, I'll be watching.

I have predicted BS ideas, and methods to get something ................ anything up and going with nonsense changes as beta tests that they will try out then probably attempt to sneak into the game from next year going forward.

I'm yet to have my opinion changed.

I maintain my stance.

Just watching afl tonight, Brad Johnson looks like he's sitting in front of the Footscray Trophy Cabinet.

McGuire looked a bit uncomfortable when caro asked him last night on footy classified. Is it true the Collingwood FC has stopped paying rent to the Olympic park trust.
Expects all the supporters to keep paying thou.

Bingo.
The so called richest club asks for rent assistance.

Interesting conclusion to Greg Baum's article in today's The Age:

Research released by True North on Wednesday suggests less than 40 per cent of fans across all major sports think there should be a resumption. When filtered to count only dedicated fans of each sport, still fewer than half in any sport favour a restart. It is a surprisingly sanguine finding.

Though not specified, this can only mean that they are prepared to sacrifice a bit now for the sake of the much greater good. They're prepared to practise social distancing even from footy until all is safe again. That is, all in good time.

Sure. But even on a 3mth secondment I go go home every month and if there was an emergency I could take the next flight out without needing to sit through a 2 week quarantine before I got to my family.

2 Weeks of quarantine on the way back to family is a major issue IMHO. It renders players useless in the event of an emergency,
But that was doable. Other assignments might have longer stints

Only minority get to experience it at the G as we have discussed many times on here.

I love all the talk of hubs, regional centres, etc. Then someone comes up with the bright idea of playing at the MCG.

Who would have thought?

Greg Baum is the print media replica of Whatley. He gets paid whether there is a game on or not. And he is quite often a contrarian and would die before anyone accused him of being a fanboy. But he is worth reading.

Has Gill ever heard the saying "a dollar in your pocket is you best friend". Pubs, Cafes, Schools are all shut, Gill, but you and your wank mates want to get the season going. You would not have to worry about getting the season going if ran the AFL as a business.

I Cannot believe noone is calling this Cat out.
Instead if calling him out for bringing the game to its kneess with constant pointless spending over his tenure.
The Ass lickers are praising him.
No need to get shirty. He's just very good at his job and has done well. You not liking it or understanding it is not the same thing as it being bad management.

The AFL doesn't need the money. The clubs, players and employees do. You should be railing against the RFC for wasting money on coaches, facilities and player contracts when we could have been banking revenue for a rainy day. Why keep Dusty when we could have kept the 6 million and stashed it in the bank at 1% interest in case there is a global pandemic?
The club will go broke if there's no season, not the AFL. The AFL has an asset to borrow against (unlike the club) and will bail out the club most likely. So perhaps your frustration is misdirected.

what a load of horseshit.
Nice comeback. Just to be clear, I'm not actually suggesting the club has been run poorly financially, just that if we're going to rail against the AFL for not building a cash stockpile then that ill-informed anger should be directed at the club, who have likewise failed to put cash reserves ahead of business performance.
