Think we have to possibly stop this ‘experimental ‘ with this.

‘Go home factor’ & ‘home sickness’ is too great.

Just my thoughts.
Yes, I reckon basketballers who had ability at, or had at least played aussie rules is the better option.

I tend to agree and said so recently on another thread. The “Irish experiment” has been going on for nearly 40 years and we’ve had Stynes, Wight, Kennedy, Tuohy and Hanley as outstanding successes and then McKenna, Marty Clarke, Setanta O’Hailpin as reasonable successes.

Then there’s a list here of the dozens and dozens and dozens who haven’t succeeded in nearly 40 years of trying.

Better off getting state leaguers.

Agree, absolute waste of time and money , would not spend one milli second looking into recruiting an Irish player, fact is if a freak one gets discovered we can just steal em of another club because we are the best in the land

Not popular in Ireland either. The GAA don't like it when their best players disappear.

Thanks Tigertim.
That’s them. Going by memory , were they not highly rated???

How many have worked 5? 10? Since Melbourne got Stynes?
It's a failed experiment.
Better kids in the suburbs.

The failure rate is probably not too dissimilar to standard draftees, rookies etc though to be fair. It's always surprising to see that the % of players who get to 100 games is very small, can't remember offhand but I think under 10%. Lee will know.

You could argue that support costs are higher for the Irish lads. Probably horses for courses, if someone wants to punt on an Irishman and they are willing to come, why not?

Stynes and Wight but I don't think Wight was Irish (both RIP) I recall he was Scottish by birth.

Hanley had a few very good seasons before injury, and Zac Tuohey the other obvious success story.

Mark O Connor at Geesook is an Irishman.

Plenty of others who've flittered in and flittered out without any real legacy most readily known probably being the O' Hailpins.

Im sure there are a few more.

True.
Up to each club to decide.

Remember when I used to seriously scan the list of retirements looking to see who Richmond could pick up.
To get from ninth to eighth the next season.
