Is anyone else effected, seem to be getting more and more of these lately.
Just today, calls from 0433 392 718, claiming to be from Amazon, and 0407 438 189, about my telstra NBN connection, (which I don't have).

I have a very strict rule which helps with this. If I don't recognise the number or it is blocked I don't answer. If it is important they will leave a message.

Also, if I have time I will jump on a reverse phone number look up website. Reverse Australia is a good one. It will often show the pest numbers with comments from people who get calls from the same number. If I verify it is a pest number I then block the caller on my phone.

Telstra have a home phone called a Call Guardian. You can set it so the phone answers incoming calls without ringing and requests people identify themselves. If they don't ID themselves the system hangs up on them. You can set numbers to come straight through bypassing the system i.e. family etc and you can block up to 1000 numbers.
We've gone from 5 or so pest calls a day to maybe 1 or 2 a week which I only find out when I check the call log once per week. Numbers that have called in and refused to ID themselves are simply added to the block list.

Yeah, I checked both these on a reverse directory, but no joy for either. Both these numbers are blocked on mobile.
Trouble is they change numbers pretty frequently.

Both calls came through on mobile, which is supplied by my employer, lost home landline when internet switched to NBN.

More difficult then particularly when the mongrels keep changing numbers.

Yeah they do change numbers to try and get you. Just don't answer; works for me.

We gave up our home landline when we switched to NBN a year or so ago. The only calls we ever got on it were telemarketers and scammers, despite being on the no call register.

Was getting heaps of calls for a couple of weeks up until last week, from various states in the US, in the middle of the nite which went to message bank and the msg and voice was the same, saying I needed to check my Uber account for some important information. ...
Don't have an Uber account. ... was going to contact them to complain or alert.... but I need to have an Uber account to do so!

If I answer and say “hello” and there’s a 2 or 3 second delay I instantly hang up. It’s a scam call from India or somewhere trying to sell me Viagra. Who told them I need it I have no idea...

Sound interested and tell them to hang on a minute while you get to a quiet area. Then leave your phone somewhere, with the open line, and go back to doing what you were doing.

Keeps them on the line and wastes their time instead of yours.

Or have fun with them., I did give my one router's admin password once. d1ck43ad

Ha, just got another one from 03 77589 3156 trying to sell me viagra. I laughed at him and said “you guys keep calling but I never buy” to which he called me “a stinking piece of *smile*” and an “Australian scum”.

So I put in an order for 500......

Have noticed an increase in these again lately. Apparently I'm having terrible problems with Amazon Prime, The NBN and the lights in my house.

Given that i don't own aproperty in my name, or an NBN account in my name, I recently suggested to an Indian caller, he needs to do better research if he hopes to scam me.

When I offered my credit card details, he even pretened to be offended.

Pretty sure that “Indian caller” was Leysy Days. He tried to do the same with me but when I heard him cheering on a horse in the background, the game was up.

Not too many Indians use the expression “Geeez got nutted on the **** line again !”

I have scammers ring me regularly. Have car crash, chinese embassy, amazon, telstra, microsoft, credit card fraud, all sorts.
Sometimes if I have time and motivation I play along for a while until they catch on and start the abuse. Spuds work on commission so if I tie up there time they get less in their pocket.

Best ones are the car crash folk who are trying to generate leads to sell to ambulance chasing lawyers. Calls never fail to suddenly finish while I am describing the horror of a decapitated head rolling across the hood of my car.

I am eagerly awaiting the next call so I can unveil my new insult, referring to them as Pakistani and talking up Imran Khan as a political leader and cricketer. I think I might get a couple of bites on that bait.

I rarely get ones with an actual person on the other side these days. It's usually the automated robotic voices saying something like "This is Amazon, you have an outstanding account of..."
I usually don't get any further before hanging up because I've never bought anything from Amazon!

Text messages saying “hi it’s mum card isn’t working at Coles can you put $300 in my account bsb/account number…will pay you when I get home”

Besides the fact my mum died 17 years ago, how would a deposit to a bank account help in Coles ?

These crazy kids.

Its usually a big giveaway when they ask me if I'm Mr.... and then my first name. Nope thats not my frigging name and any reputable business has a directory of first name / surname.

I get heaps of these calls, my mobile must have dozens of blocked numbers, the problem is a lot of them now use spoofed numbers so you can't block them all the time, just constantly different phone numbers. The amount I get for offering energy efficient lightbulbs!!
