To be fair, up until and after the 2016 season, there were a lot on here that didn't rate him, nicknamed Shank etc and people saying we should trade. It was only with a Shedda style gameplan that we have got the best out of him and he has really elevated himself to that next level.

There are always players that other clubs fans don't rate and Shed is one of them for us.

Lewis actually stated that Richmond and their fans have known how good Edwards is but the rest of the comp have only recently awoken to how good he is.

I couldn't fault what Lewis said, particularly when you look at the statements from Tigers fans pre 2017 on Edwards.

Was a different player then. I've always rated him but at one stage I was wondering whether we'd seen the best of him, he was playing so consistently. He is very attacking and our current game style suits him to the ground. He just knows where players are before he's even taken control of the ball. Amazing skill.

Only been elite since the last third of 2017.

Still, he'd played nearly 200 games to the end of 2016 and was virtually anonymous. Think it's similar to Matthew Rogers - low profile and garden variety name in a team that wasn't at the pointy end.
I think the main reason some didn't rate Shane earlier was a combination of some of his teammates at the time who were only gong through the motions so we just missed seeing his sleight of hand and moving through gaps that were not there. It was always there at time but thanks to our more expansive game style it is now evident to all, even to some of the game callers

our pressure game style suits him to a T. Oppo coughs it up and magic hands and run spreads it out. And he drifts in to the F50, marks, goals.

Was thinking about where Edwards ranks as player.

He is every bit as good to us as Nigel Lappin was to the bears, I wanna say Simon Black , but its probably somewhere in between

Magic hands Edwards and Magic feet Bolton could wreak havoc in the midfield. Will be a pleasure to watch

Exactly. When we played slow chip chip sideways footy he really struggled.

Was great to see him back out there weaving his magic. Adds some real class & when Bolton comes back in will allow Dusty to spend more time forward if required.

I dunno. He had some convictions with his performances in big games including those elimination finals. The fundamental of getting hands on the ball was missing, let alone the magic.

Been top 5 in the b&f three times, same as e.g. Brendon Gale and Bryan Wood, and I'm comfortable with that as a representation of his career. If you look at Shane Tuck with 5, you might suggest he's been sold short; look at Merv Keane with 1 and you'd say the opposite.
