Got a fine.

They just showed the young Port kid and his dad who Lynch was seen speaking to after the moron threw a drink at him.

Fair to say the dad should be the ambassador for what a sporting fan should be, and probably parents as well.
What did the dad do?

He said he and his son saw the crowd abusing Lynch and chucking a drink at him and he told him that's not how you lose and how you show respect to sports people, so the kid wanted to go and congratulate him.
Good on him. Glad to see Port has at least one supporter with some decorum.

5th wedding anniversary today. I woke up sore throat, sore head but at least the 14 month old slept to 4am - I haven't been in the dog house today!
Still gliding on a cloud. That was a real tough win. Erased the horrid Port elimination final. Knocked off a few haters.
Today's a great day.

They are certainly not on their own. Win with humility and lose with graciousness seem to be forgotten values at most AFL club supporter bases these days, sadly.
True but I reckon it’s a long time since a player had drinks thrown at him by the crowd. I certainly can’t remember the last time it happened.

Was such a brialliant night. Have not hugged so many blokes in One night than I did last night. We have a such a good team, 35 years of heartache after heartache are so more than worth it now, the experience would not be the same without it. The ground was pumping but I felt in control 2nd quarter onwards, game was on our terms.

Good to see Judge Smailes after the game briefly and celebrate a few brews with real tiger people. Great night, as good as the gf’s to be honest, especially being a resident here in SA.

Very good parenting, teaching the kid the right way to deal with winning and losing. Top marks. A lot of people on Insta and twitter clearly haven't had the same parenting advice.

Actually Jase. Thinking about these comments from earlier in the day an reminiscing about that era. Most leagues have an equivalent side (or couple of sides). Obviously Victoria’s was Collingwood and terrifying away matches at Victoria Park (apparently the animal cage at Moorabbin wasn’t too god for visiting fans either).

In Hobart, our equivalent was New Norfolk. They were the only country team playing in the TFL. My analogy of their support base would be like taking a Port bogan, then enhance them by breeding a bit of gun toting Alabama hick into him/her, then cross breed some more with the patients at the local mental asylum (yes this actually happened, with Tasmania’s only mental asylum of the time located in the town as one of its major industries and employers). You get a whole new sub-breed of super-bogan.

Away matches at Boyer Oval (New Norfolk’s home ground) were not enjoyable affairs. The scenes in the outer were rather Dickensian.

New Norfolk were often a dirty team on the field, but it was probably a safer environment on the field than being in the crowd up there, given one felt surrounded by these hillbilly incarnations of Orcs from Lord of The Rings. Not uncommon to see brawls in the wet area or the crowd in the main grandstand trying to start fights with the away team bench and entourage in front of them.
Visiting fans would hide their colours for the walk back to the car after the game.

The only difference was that New Norfolk didn’t have the success of the likes of Port and Collingwood, so you wouldn’t get that same of arrogant streak. That said, their home record was pretty good because it was such a hostile environment. The facilities were far more agricultural too, given they were a country side playing in a city comp, which added to the hostility. And the upper Derwent Valley is often a few degrees cooler than Hobart, damp, miserable and foggy (fog lifts at noon and rolls back in at 3pm) during the depths of winter.
Sorry I hadn't had a chance to reply earlier mate, just flat out. Pretty great read to be honest :clap2. Just goes to show how far we have come, now booing is considered taboo (and I am fine with that).

But yes fear was a distinct memory of mine watching footy at Ports home ground Alberton. They would throw cups of *smile* on the full back in the goal square and spit on them etc.

An in-law of mine is Bryan Beinke and he was a Port player who got drafted to the Crows. When he got demoted to the sanfl the Port fans would spit on him.

I didn't even notice this during the game.

Cotchin fined for tripping in preliminary final win

F*** me, they don't let up do they?

One last stab at Richmond just fr the hell of it. Didn't even know there were any incidents in the game apart from the report, and that ended up as a fine which was reasonable.

Geez, the AFL really don't like a successful Richmond do they?

Where was the fine for Dixon mowing straight through Baker last time we played them, and for a multitude of incidents over the last 6 months?

We have to win this one, just to stick it up the AFL if nothing else.

I'd love them to attach a video of each incident to the charge so we know exactly what it's for. Remember earlier in the year Short was fined two weeks running for "misconduct". Still no idea what either of them were actually for.

I'm sure stuff we've been fined for happens several times every week

Just watched the game again, Broad is also huge in the last few minutes, crashing packs, spoiling nd clearing the area. Makes his dropping seem even more non sensical.

The port supporters were mostly pretty good, had a fair few come up and say congratulations when I was celebrating after at pubs. Had a couple scream at me that the umps had robbed them walking out of the ground, but vast majority fine, thank christ!

Good to hear Snake. I know 2 Port supporters; both work colleagues. Both are good guys but I’ve yet to hear from either one of them ha ha.

And good on you for getting to witness a famous finals win.
