Was it a PCL he did early last year? And didn't have the operation, which allowed him to come back late in the year?

I think it has bought him two more premierships but has permanently limited his jump and mobility.

He'll go around again, but whether he plays every game I'm not sure. He'll be important in the development of his replacements in CCJ and I think Cumberland was earmarked for a high forward role too. He'll probably get some rests during the year, but plenty to offer on and off the field yet

Yeah agree - 10 H&A games plus finals if he can maintain the rage - but he is still such an important and smart leader but his time in the media shows he has started transitioning out of playing footy

Legend. Absolute legend. I need a wider vocabulary for my praise to do him justice.

Looking forward, I hope he can play for a few more years given the following:

- team is up there
- absence of continued decline in form
- isn’t stagnating development (I’m thinking how Richo moved to the wing for young Jack)

There is a difference between a drop in form and a decline in form. He’s been consistent this year and perhaps got better as the year went on. I think the PCL injury led to a one-time dip in his normal standard - a new normal in form - and he hasn’t shown clear signs of continued decline since then.

Definitely on the decline, I would say possibly one more year. But he keeps making a big contribution, in ways that are less obvious. He will continue to command the attention of a key defender. His footy smarts make a big contribution.

Won't so much kick bags as contribute to bags of goals being kicked.

Let him retire when he wants within reason, maybe end of 2022.

Won the goal kicking award again by 1 over Lynch. Must still be doing something right

Jack has been a legend. Maybe the smartest most intuitive footballer I've ever seen play the game.

IMO it's a decline though. He dropped so many marks he got first hands to this year that he once would have swallowed. He seemed to lose his leap, he would fly early and be back on the ground when the ball arrived. His smarts are still there, has been involved in a couple of great typical tiger goals this year and his foot smother on Selwood shows the imagination is still there. But he had little impact on this GF (you could argue the 3rd qtr free was lucky given he had a handful of Hendesron's jumper before Henderson held him). And I think Lynch operates fine without him and its not a bad time for Chol/CCJ to be getting an opportunity.

I'm happy to see him go on as you'd think he will be more impactful than those other 2 but also would be happy to see him go out if he thought it was the right time.

As an observation (and I'm sure it won't be a popular one) I'm not a huge fan of players taking their kids up on stage for presentations (excl Marlion who has used family as a massive motivation and is an example to all of rehabilitation). What would happen if they all decided they wanted to bring their kids on stage to get their medal and they all introduced their kids to the medal presenter as Jack did? Or if you didn't have kids you took your mum? Or your dad? Or your wife or partner? How long would it take? I understand this is an exceptional year & families have played a big part (they always do though) but there's something self-indulgent about the behaviour IMO. As is getting on stage with a band instead of being in the rooms with your teammates. Why weren't the whole team up there (maybe no one else wanted to be? ) Maybe I've got it all wrong and we should all be proud to celebrate our own way?

I’m biased when it comes to Jack, and I agree with your observations, which can usually be attributed to age. I’m just not sure how much we can attribute to age with Jack’s recent form yet.

We don’t know how much of it is just a one-time byproduct of the PCL injury, and a temporary byproduct of the mental side of the hub. The question on my mind is:

Has Jack’s form steadily declined over the past two years?

Or has he been consistently at this level since the PCL?

If it’s the latter, I believe he can remain a valuable contributor, as his form would then be less likely to drop further next year.

But I do concede the eye test doesn’t necessarily support what I’m saying, so maybe this is a hopeful theory.

Super stuff from Jumping Jack.
Misses the 2 "relatively" easy shots from areas in his wheelhouse.
Then jags one from the car park to break their hearts!
Has played selflessly all year to free up space for Tom.
A true Richmond Man.

I think this year kids with players is totally acceptable - been a very trying year. I would expect things to return to normal next year.

Our issue will be too many players leaving at once. Two of the older players should go this year. Just my opinion. Think jack should go.
Look at it this way jack and Houli going this year give us a jeremy cameron type player. I would do that in a heart beat.
Both champions both professionals and they need to make way for the future.

More likely to find a thylacine than an AFL standard Full Forward in Tasmania these days. Unfortunately for both the football and animal kingdoms.

Nankervis is from Tassie! Maybe they have more rucks hidden away there?

It such a delicate process - I think with our group you trust them to make the right call.

Hmmm - some good meaty stuff there. I'd like Jack to go on one more year - play half the season and mentor CCJ and Chol in the art (craft is for backmen and mids) of forward play.

I think Houli should retire - plenty of ready replacements and he's had some hit and miss games this year. Don't go one too many Bash.

Jack and Cotch to go out together after next season. Edwards the year after perhaps.

And kids on stage - I'm too old and old fashioned for that - think it's indulgent and immodest - a real 'look at me, look at me' attitude by the parents. Having kids doesn't give you extra rights - that podium is for those that earned it.
