CEO now coming out via a statement to members today that “salary cap” strain played a role in their decisions this week and without the change “we would be unable to actively pursue free agency options”.
So they gave their mitts into someone next season?

The real stuffup was paying that sort of money to Treloar in the first instance. He's arguably a worse kick than Dangerfield.
He's probably a run of the mill $600 a year mid. But if they've bailed him up part way through his contract n asked him to help them out of salary cap problems by only accepting $ 300 a year n promised to compensate him the lost shekels by back paying him the $300 a year on top of his next $600 a year contract. That's only fair and reasonable, doesn't make him a $900 a year superstar player. They're only repaying him the money they already owe him.
Similar *smile* happened to Koutafisheads years back n he was pilloried by plenty for being on a million dollar contract at the end of his career, but it was only a shitload of money owed that the club had short paid him in previous years.

On nine news they’ve said that scummingwood have sent letters to members admitting that they *smile* up their salary cap and that Was a “ key part of the decision” in getting rid of those players ..
This after saying that it was a beat up and had nothing to do with it earlier in the week..
zero credibility pricks

Hope the manager of whoever they're sniffin around has a good hard look at the steaming *smile* pile at Colonwood this year n advises his player to think again.

So he is more or less saying that Ned Guy and Geoff Walsh were lying, it gets better all the time.

Yes, I don't know why people keep ignoring this, it is common knowledge. Treloar was not on $900k because that was what he was valued at, he was on $900k because they back ended his contract.

I'd like to see them try to back end another contract "for the good of the club", I suspect they will be told where to go in no uncertain terms.

Unable to actively pursue free agents? More like unable to avoid sanctions for breaching the salary cap.

Part of the issue here is that I suspect every club back ends contracts with the assumption that the salary cap will creep up over time. Trouble is COVID threw everyone a googly and I reckon every club is looking at how they can fit all the players in at the moment. There's going to be some more players on rookie lists for a few years after this.

Collingwood did stuff this up more than most. Although the Treloar deal was at a reasonable rate given the back ending of the payments, paying someone like Cox $500k is just stupid. But, they were less than a kick off winning a flag. We all know how hard that is, so sometimes you take the risk, but you still have to get your figures right.

When do we know what? We win flags, They don't.
5 goals up against a team that had a shocking record at the G.
And the 5 point margin at the end flattered them, Kennedy, Ryan & Masten all missed easy set shots and Darling dropped a sitter in the goal square.
If we were up by 28 at the 23rd minute mark, the final margin would've been in the 80's.

David, the 'back ended' part was all done by Treloar's management..ok
Lets not blame Collingwoods admin. There's alot more involved.

The truth to this will come out one day. I will suspect Collingwood will not be the villians as everyone's making them out to be.
I reckon if Treloar opens his mouth again Eddie might unleash the truth and Treloar will be the one seen as the villian..

What on earth are you saying - that Treloar‘s mgt went to Cwood admin and demanded his then current contract be altered to make it a back ended one?
Fanciful at best

Don't worry about Collingwood, they know what they're doing. They're copying our 10 year plan, only 5 more years to go :rotfl1

2015 1st round pick traded for Treloar
2016 1st round pick traded for Treloar- traded to the Dogs who also get picks 26, 33 and 42
2017 1st round pick drafted Stephenson @ pick 6 - traded as junk to the Roos
2018 1st round pick traded for Beams
2019 1st round pick traded for Beams

That's what i mean. You don't know the facts. From the outside it seems ludicrous that a player would delay any form of payment.
But lets put this way Collingwood was doing Treloar a favour.
Sit back and wait for the 'Open Mike' episode when everything is told.
Collingwood aren't the villians the media and people like you are making out.

I can't believe that, there is no purpose to the player to delay payment. What the hell could he gain out of it?

If he struggles with money, then you allow someone else to handle it and you transfer money immediately from what salary to another account. You don't go to your employer and say, please please don't pay me now, I don't know how to deal with it.

Don't always accept what seems to be the obvious.
Collingwood did alot to help Treloar.

Probably means nothing , however I much prefer the way Dimma speaks of his players by their first names when interviewed, rather then the way Bucks calls his by their Nick names

The one thing that is being missed by most in the who did what and who gained what is the "fact" that regardless of everything, Collingwood wrote the contract, Treloar signed the contract.
The speculation is not really the issue. It was a contract that had been agreed to and then one party decided they didn't like it.
Collingwood are not the good guys here by any stretch.

Yeah, pet hate of mine when players or coaches etc use nicknames.

“Yeah, Groaner and Pugs did their work well down back, Twoup was excellent in the ruck and Grubby kicked 3 great goals.”
