I'm surprised Ford is not appearing in any top-25 lists. He seems the prototype to come on in leaps and bounds as a top-ager, getting more midfield time than just playing forward. So many tools. Strong. Aggressive. Hands. Neat by foot. Kicks goals. You'd want to see how he tests but I really like him.
In the phantom draft on The Roar he is forecast as Richmond,s pick.
Though it does read as total wild speculation

I just saw AFL Draft Central has him at 29, and said this:
"Having cut his teeth as a medium forward, the 189cm Victorian has recently requested tape of Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe as he looks to sharpen his midfield craft...
"Ford has grown a few centimetres since preseason and seems to be filling out nicely, coming in at 189cm and 83kg at the Vic Metro Draft Combine. The leading Western Jets product also showed off his athleticism at the event, notching a 94cm running vertical jump and 20-metre time of 2.95 seconds."

We'll be going key position - bookmark it.

With Rance gone, Jack & Astbury with one year left, CCJ at risk of leaving and Chol not up to it - its a no brainer.

With the VFL on instruction from the AFL trialling three players from each side being in zones for each throw-in and kick-in next season, you can bet your bottom dollar the AFL will follow suit. It will most probably be six before long.

With that in mind, and MoJo almost certain to be with us next year, a couple of talls might be a good idea.

That speed changes things.
Minimum standard of under 3s so is good

I’m hoping that Caleb Poulter is around at our pick. Big mid and tested quite well at the SA combine. His game in the u18 all stars was awesome

He is very raw and has improved rapidly. He’s very similar to RCD. But with a ripping dirty mullet. None of these trendy curated things, real Elizabeth flannel wearing, car factory worker 1982 setup. Its awesome.

Genuine consideration.
Is Eddie Ford a typical pick for us?
Not fast or high endurance so doesnt seem to meet our athletic criteria

In all honesty the best way for me to answer this would be Jack Riewoldt but 4cm shorter and some midfield ability

If you have not seen his highlight package i would recommend , I have not seen him play live but a close friend pointed him out to me about April/May to watch this year but couldnt.

That’s what I always think until we select another wild card with our first pick

* it’s his repeat efforts and follow up tackles that make me think we could take Ford

Agree, Poulters mullet needs its own soundtrack!! From the write ups on draft central and how he dominated the SA all star game shows the rapid improvement is genuine. Caleb Poulter v Eddie Ford..wouldn’t mind either but would lean towards Poulter as he is more pure mid.

The thing with your Ford types is they are very all or nothing. Medium forwards who might have a run in the midfield are super risky. Much prefer the other way around. But Ford has serious athletic tools to play with. Prefer to dabble with Archie Perkins if we went this way.

Ford reminds me of Ben Lennon, not so much his style of play as Ford looks far more aggressive but medium forward who wants to play midfield. If he was capable of playing midfield in juniors he would have played midfield in juniors. Poulter >>> Ford

I confess to not knowing much about this years draftees, however if we are banking this Ford kid to be a mid based on him playing as a medium forward then expect that theory to fail.

If you want a pure mid, then pick the pure mid.

Not unusual for kids to play forward in their bottom-age year before moving into the midfield in their draft year. Ford obviously has not had that chance.

I give you Nathan Fyfe, Gary Ablett, and James Hird as mids who came in as forwards.

Anyway, who says Ford has to be a midfielder? We have a good group of developing young mids. You draft for talent.

Havent seen either play.

Both Fyfe and Danger were forwards and not mids as juniors though...

I reckon 90% of AFL players would have been mids up to their u16 year

I bet tom lynch was in the guts when he was 15
