Anthony Miles is a "genuine mid". Josh Caddy isn't. Which one do you want?

If we only get the next Josh Caddy with pick 21 we've clocked it.

Not unusual for kids to play forward in their bottom-age year before moving into the midfield in their draft year. Ford obviously has not had that chance.

I give you Nathan Fyfe, Gary Ablett, and James Hird as mids who came in as forwards.

Anyway, who says Ford has to be a midfielder? We have a good group of developing young mids. You draft for talent.
Havent seen either play.

Both Fyfe and Danger were forwards and not mids as juniors though...
The exception. Not the rule.

True Spook.

Not sure of the recruitment of:

Lennon
Ellis ( not B )
Higgins

First rounds.. can’t remember.
Not ‘potting the kids’ just a waste as they are no longer at the club.

I think the 4 mentioned are all exceptional.....

Think players now get swung around so much the convention of drafting players purely for position are probably reserved to only the beast forwards/defenders, all others must be versatile as clubs will switch their position on need or development, could be wrong but thats my take.

Prefer Bailey Laurie to Ford

D85 Bailey Laurie's BIO reads similar to MJR so doubt we would double up in small forward department?

19. Collingwood - Bailey Laurie
Height, Weight:
178cm, 76kg
Profile: With impressive speed, agility and evasion, Laurie impacts games as a small forward who can push through the midfield for periods. While his movement stands out, he lowers his eyes and finds inside 50m targets by foot, is an excellent front-and-centre crumber and provides second and third tackle efforts.

43. Richmond - Maurice Rioli Jnr (Richmond - Father-Son - matching Carlton's bid)
Height, Weight: 179cm, 75kg
Profile: Son of Indigenous Team of the Century midfielder, Maurice Rioli, Rioli Jnr is arguably the premier pressure forward in this draft with the second and third tackle efforts he applies. Rioli Jnr possesses excellent speed, agility, ground level craft and is an instinctive finisher around goal with an impressive mind to body connection.

If they had that attitude mate , we wouldn’t have got Baker , Clark has been clear we take best available, especially early

Higgo was the only small forward chosen in 2017 National Draft so not exactly apples, rookie draft slim pickings so best available turned to gold with Bakes selection so no denying that..
I'll stick to not wanting two small forwards in this draft.

Ideally a Fin Macrae would be available at our pick. Id prefer Laurie when compared to Ford, and even though he is a small Fwd, we cant rely on the Dan Rioli's of the world.

If a bid on Moz comes before 40, then i'd be shocked. Seems to have gotten a few puff pieces written about him lately, but has a ways to go to make it.

I agree on Moz without seeing him this year, but watched him several times live the previous season and have always played down the hype and pegged him as a late pick.

Agree

What people also need to keep in mind is that these kids have had no football this year and in 2019 as bottom age kids and Ford just turned 17 in june 2019 so would hardly have had an opportunity to play midfield time at a decent level with older kids getting that chance.

The only comparison of Ford to Lennon is his height and the position he plays but Ford has alot more assets to his game that Lennon didnt have that was always apparent watching him as a junior as well as at Richmond. Speed , Agility , Leap

But as you mentioned with the players you did in your post these kids/players have that Game breaking X factor that sets them aside and with where we are as a team i think Ford would be the exact type of player that would compliment the other young mids we have coming through in
Ross , Graham , Dow , Martyn & RCD

I don’t disagree at all , however that’s what Matt Clark does , picks best available regardless of needs , reckon his theory is goin ok
