Very unlikely to be on the board for our pick but I'd really like Chapman, he ran 6min 20sec at the combine for the 2k time trial which is the 7th best nationally. At 194 cm's he would be perfect down back, and would allow Balta to eventually replace Jack.

Is he tall/big enough though?
At 193/194 he is unlikely to be a KPD.
This year as a topager he played as 3rd tall which is where i would guess he ends up.

Comparison to me is Jake Lever
Its not a knock but realistic expectations.

A couple of years in the gym and he'll be ok, he has a lot of scope.

Rance and Balta are built like Colossus
Grimes is an enigma and should be too light to play on the talls ,(as is Rampe @ swans)

More AFL rules on the fly to benefit their expansion team. Ten years the Sun$ have been in the comp yet they're still getting handouts. The DO NOT have a right of passage to success just because they're Gil's baby FFS.

These rules were put in place at the end of 2018 to help the GC Suns. They are super generous. The latest tweak is actually a slight backtrack.

Doesn't hurt them putting four senior players onto the rookie list n saving $320 large in cap space. Makes ya wonder how much in " overs " they are paying to keep players up on the Mould Coast.

I really hope we draft Winder at 17

Best athlete in the draft pool, great mark, gets loads of the ball, kicks goals, tackles.

Seems to be a bit all over the place with his ratings. Some info you read rates him as a borderline 1st rounder and other have him in the 40-60th pick range.

I'm definitely not a recruiter but from what I've seen in 'highlight' packages and write ups i like the sound of Sam Berry. From what i can tell he sounds more like a 2nd rd option that probably doesn't get to us.

Yeah I'm intrigued by Berry. He plays bigger than 180cm. He's not athletically gifted. He's a workhorse. I think he might struggled to spread without seeing him live and toking at the packages of highlights, I'm not blown away. At 180cm you need to have an elite skill that sets you apart.

Over the years I've come up with three criteria I judge from a distance.

1) Can I see a clearly defined role for him at AFL level?
2) Is he ultra competitive for his size and position?
3) What is his elite skill or skills that he can use at AFL level?

If I can't get clear answers on those three I don't do any more research.

There was conjecture re going into points deficit from one draft to the next. Whether the points deficit came off the clubs next pick or from the round where it was used.
I hope this clarifies it. (For this year anyway)

Carlton, Adelaide and North Melbourne will be the major beneficiaries of Fremantle's decision to go all in on last year's NAB AFL Draft.

After taking gun half-back Hayden Young and 2020 NAB AFL Rising Star Caleb Serong, Fremantle matched a bid for Academy speedster Liam Henry, putting them into deficit for this year's draft.

Fremantle lost 265 draft points for 2020, meaning this year's pick seven slides back to selection No.10.

As a result, Carlton (now selection No.7), Adelaide (No.8) and North Melbourne (No.9) will move up the order.

I also think he needs to slim down in his first year. I think he is too big and with his body needing to adapt to the massive increase in running and endurance i wonder if that extra weight in his rookie year will lead to groin and hammy issues. Slim down, build your running then you get back to 80 kegs in yr 2 and 3.

He does seem like an inside bull - I'm always leaning to those types and more forgiving on some of their weaknesses because of it. lol.

It's so hard to judge this year anyway so may as well have fun with the picks.! lol

I don't think there list is correct, it is different to the one on the AFL site. For instance it does not include the original pick we had that we swapped with St Kilda in the Higgins trade and i think there are other errors as well

That doesn't say anything about where the points come off.

It comes off the same round that a bid was matched. Liam Henry was matched at Pick 9 so was always going to be a deficit off Freos first pick.

I know we discussed this earlier, then I came across this. So I was confused (again )
I forgot Henry was a 1st round pick, so it makes sense now.
Your explanation that the deficit comes off the pick from the corresponding round from one draft year to the next seems to be correct. What happens if the next years corresponding pick for the deficit is traded out. Does the defic carry on to the club’s next pick/s until the deficit is wiped? I guess it has to

Now thats a good question and not one I've seen an official answer about.

For example, if the Pies bid on Reef McInnes this year after their 1st 2 picks, they will need to carry a deficit into next year. If they then trade their 1st rounder out during the draft what happens then? I know that if they trade it out in next years trade period then that will be the revised pick (ie. post the deficit) but if they do it in the same draft I don't know if that would have already been assumed to have occurred. Its an interesting one.
