I was in favour of The Sampervan but I think Clay is better. Think I'll use Clay game day and The Sampervan in print.

Why, why, why? is good. Abbreviated to Y3? Or 3Y?

Clay it is IMO.

How about SOS?

Thanks for posting that. I hope this gamble pays off..
Maybe Zips philosophy that we can't nail a first round pick will translate to we stuff up our first pick.
With endurance a question mark, you'd think he's a couple of years off. But if people fall over, anything can happen.

Actually i was at the end of the row with a copper mate sittingon my right.

I remember that because for some peculiar reason every second person passing me tripped on the step next to my seat.

Last round v Nth Melb 2015 that same cop was on duty at the ground and i had a chat to him pre game over the fence. At half time he called me down (i was only about 4 rows back.) and we had another chat. Mid conversaion i looked up to see the umpires half way to the centre, walking in formation. I said to him "Hey Rod, aren't you supposed to be walking the umpires out"?

Rod looked over his shoulder and took off, hand on hat! He reached them at about the same time they reached the centre. I opened up the opportunity, but no disgruntled Tiger fan managed to take advantage!
Dammit!
Great game. I was down from the western desert taking an old man to his first solo painting show. It was awesome being at the g. The only other time I have watched a game there was when jack kick d 10 against the eagles.

i was there for that game too!

That was an amazing performance by JR, it didnt matter how many flew withhim ,he was coming down with it in hand.

Before the game started a family of WC supporters sat next to us. They had a son who was probably 8 or 9 years old. He sits down, then jumps up to take in the view and goes to sit down and falls on his arse as his seat had flipped up. 5 seconds later he stands again looks around and bang, down on his arse again. He must have did it 4 or 5 times!

I'm not sure they had flip down seats in WA a decade or so back judging by what i was witnessing!

I like how every mark in his highlight reel is different.

- protects the space with his hips behind the drop, chest mark
- jumps and grabs at highest point, with hands to the side of his head (Not just directly above the head)
- The Dylan Grimes in defence mark into someone’s back then ending up on your own back
- Absorbed front on contact without flinching or dropping the ball until after the ball hit the ground
- the firm, contested body on body in the air type like Lynch, ball directly above head
- the pack mark
- the one-on-one using hip strength, hands above head to the side (ball not directly above head)
- A controlled two-grab

The limited ruck hitouts showed nice hand awareness as well.

Got tackled, lifted his hands about to handball - but stopped mid-action, repositioned the ball while being tackled, and handballed down to a midfielder in his peripheral vision.

Burst of aggression near the end (stationary, though).

Limited vision in a lower league, but these spatial awareness and body control qualities are very nice and hopefully translate to AFL level.

Naturally, his body strength would be a limiting factor in executing these strengths, but he’s not a beanpole ruck... and he grew up watching Greg Stafford as a kid, then Ivan Maric + Nank in his teen years.

Usually it doesn’t matter if draftees supported Richmond as a kid, but in this case, it might help him slightly given our philosophies have been so different to other clubs in recent years.

He would’ve read the premiership books etc, watched our games, and listened to Dimma’s messaging as much as anyone you’d think. He won’t be soft.

Kids a 20 y.o. n played some senior footy before so we've grabbed a young ruck who should be near enough ready to go if something horrible happens to the Nankster, at least we've not picked up an 18y.o. kid who'll need two or three years in the system before he can even be considered.

One thing that worries me though is that he was a Brisvegas academy kid and they've let him go after putting the early development work in. Then they've turned straight around n picked up a young ruck man a couple of picks after us.

Do they know something we don't or have they perhaps judged him a tad early n completely misread what was standing right in front of them?

We better hope Brisbane have no idea as we have 2 other of their academy players on our list in Martyn and Cumberland.

Sounds slightly less raw than Soldo. Classic richmond moneyball pick based on type and attributes (Broad and George come to mind), backing themselves to develop the kid into an AFL player

It seems like we may have some trustworthy inside intel from someone up there (old mate of Leppa's perhaps?). Maybe we knew that Brisvegas had changed their mind and were going to grab him back for some insurance too, and that's why we didn't trust him to be there for the rookie selections.
So the Lions had to take their second best choice with their next pick? After all, Henry Smith - who does look a good prospect - is only an 18 yr old and not a local Qld boy, from Adelaide. So there's logic to this possibility. Really doubt Smith will be ready to step up to AFL until having a couple of years in the system. Sampson should be readier you would think, if he was ever needed in '21.

Chol was from the brisbane academy

We also bid on Hipwood.

We got Martyn and Cucumberland.

We've obviously got a scout there with some pull.
