They certainly don't measure up to Cotchin, Martin, Edwards no. Maybe that's our plan next year to steal another one or two stars, but effectively we lost a year of development. That doesn't even include replacements for Jack, Houli and the ageing Astbury / Grimes (lesser extent) combo.

I know the proverbial "be happy with winning flags..." sentiment will pop up, but list management is not a static thing. For the past two years we have lost a decent core of our stars for long periods but they were lucky enough to be right in time for finals.

Edit: happy as larry to have egg on my face come finals next year.

Sympathise but clearly the strategy was that this year was too much of a lottery given lack of playing action and looked like a weaker draft anyway. They are backing our young 'uns in, sure some won't make it but we will load up in the draft next year. 2 first round picks, 2 second round, and 2 third round if I recall correctly.

I can't see it as a wasted development year at all, COVID aside.

Hi Jason, your posting is normally pretty good, this post is *smile* though :)

I think that's pretty harsh mate, my posts are pretty much always *smile* :D I cant help it, the negative mindset has been my way of coping throughout life. As I said I am happy (more than happy) to be wrong.

That's a good way of looking at it I think. Maybe there is a bit of FOMO about drafting, at least from people like me anyway.

All good Jase, the good thing for me is I've learned to relax and go with the flow the last few years! We won't know whether passing on this draft was a mistake for 5 years at least! But look at it this way, MRJ will be a great get for us.

People do realise that Martin & Cotchin are once in a generation type players.

You are not going to find them still around at pick 20 of the draft.
That’s not what anyone is expecting, what you can do is build a solid enough core around them to reduce the amount of time required at the coal face.

Im really perplexed at best and shitty at worst with our draft. We have a pressing need to replenish our mid stocks and I am not sold on what is in the cupboard.

We basically set ourselves back a year of development,
Collier Dawkins, Dow, Ralphsmith, Ross, with Cumberland and Martyn restricted by injury.
All but Ross very fast, and all talented.
Very happy with our emerging mids.

I still can’t get my head around using our first pick on a developing ruckman unless they seriously believe he’s a chance to provide cover for next year.

I’ve managed to convince myself that Carrol is an ice addict so happy we let him go more than 23 places past his expected initial draft position. Phew, we dodged a bullet there!!

Relax and go with the flow . . . pretty easy at the moment.

Still, we were unrelaxed when we were drafting many more players, let's see if this works.

There's a story that Logan McDonald was doing well in some game and Grainger -Barrass was moved onto him in the second half and held him goalless. Does somebody know which game and when?

I dont think its potting Will Phillips vs potting North who are screaming out for a Key Forward and had a great opportunity to draft one. Phillips will play a lot of games for them and be a good player, but who is he going to kick the ball to?

He can do a Dangerflog and try and do it all himself.
