Its a long road back from buckets of kfc and illegal kebabs
I'm still bullish on Syd (and CCJ), Ezy.

Reckon he'll do a Steve Johnson. Nearly out the door, and becomes a champion player.

Has anyone read Marlion's book?

Just finished it. Must admit I had low expectations, but I think it is a wonderful story and I couldn't put it down. Provides a lot more insight into Marlion's life than the TV stories such as Australian Story.

Truly remarkable that he has made it this far. I have even more respect and affection for him and his family.

Based on his career at South Fremantle, I have a feeling he is going to go up a level next year.
Mine is in Christmas wrapping; so the anticipation builds!

Just finished it, It's sure is a great read. I agree that he'll go up another level next year. With a settled life in Melbourne, with no hub, he will shine.

The club clearly has faith. $500k per season for the next two years suggests this.
Hasn't been upgraded, still officially a rookie.

Dual premiership player, 29 next month. Logic says he is deserving of the AFL's average salary, ~$360K.

Not sure what the salary cap rules are concerning a job after football, job for the missus, kids' schooling etc. Anyone have any info on Marlion's list status?

Just finished the book, but even though I knew the ending and had watched Australian Story, I found the final chapters gripping and hugely emotional. Marlion’s mentors at South Fremantle are inspirational.

I agree with Dusty that everyone deserves a second chance.

Agree.
It's very well written, his manager did a fantastic job getting him on to an AFL list. He used a very good strategy in promoting him, not hiding anything, and telling anyone who interviewed Marlion to ask him any question that they wanted to.

There are minimum payment requirements on the rookie list but the club can pay them higher than that.

He may well be on $360k.
Rookie list players $80k outside the cap. So only$280k counted in the cap.
It may be the reason he’s still classed as a rookie. Not that I have much idea

Agree with others. Interesting and easy read. Got through it in about a day or so. Liked the stuff about his WAFL days, and it’s particularly nice to read about the bond between he and Jess. She and the kids keep him grounded.

Having read all 3 tiger books this summer, I think this is the best of the lot. Not going to win any literary awards, but the most interesting and insightful.
