What is it about the RFC that so infuriates the media?

Any so called infraction draws immediate widespread hype and criticism of the club and any personnel involved.

Who can forget the condemnation of Trent's wife for daring to go to a beauty parlour in Qld.

Or the takeaway break of covid by our two players who copped massive weeks of suspension, thanks in part of the media coverage.

At the same time Buckley broke the rules by playing tennis and hardly a mention and no media condemnation of any note.

Now we have Dimma's new love being spread right across the news channels and of course the Herald Sun with it noted on front page and a full page just inside.

Of course this so called fall from grace warrants a rift at the club according to the reporting!!!

It seems to me that there is some sort of grubby vendetta being waged against anything to do with the RFC in the media, at least here in Victoria.

For me, the "affair" of Dimma and his new love should be a private matter not something designed to bring him, the players and the club into the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

Disagree if you will, but that is how my wife and I see it as loyal RFC members.

Richmond premiership coach Damien Hardwick’s new relationship with a younger colleague is causing tension within the club.
It is believed that senior figures raised concerns about the relationship after it was confirmed last month that Hardwick split from wife Danielle, with whom he has three children.
He has been seen with his new partner, Alexandra Crow, a member of the Tigers’ commercial sales team, on holiday in Queensland and around Melbourne recently.

Said it before, gray. As far as the media and opposition supporters are concerned we were a joke for nearly 40 years. Had we won in ‘17 and then fallen away like the Dogs, no problem. They can go back to laughing at us. We didn’t, and that really sticks in their craw. As does continually overcoming obstacles (the injuries in ‘19, COVID last year) to keep on winning. As one poster here said, Konrad should really have subtitled his last book ‘*smile* you all, we did it again!’

It seems to go deeper than tall poppy syndrome.

Don't get the Tiger media conspiracy bent. Given the latest Dimma viral wave of social media rumour the club got questioned and made a statement.

Combination of tall poppy, click-bait and social media.

Collingwood have attracted it for years. Hawks to a lesser extent. Chris Scott.

Comes with the Territory.

Herald Sun is trash. Feel sorry for dimma and his family.

However I am getting concerned how we continue to find new ways to be in the headlines, after 10 years of relative obscurity.

If you read the book by Konrad ...The Hard Way....there is a section from Peggy on this matter. She says because RFC are now so very different from other clubs..see cultural inclusiveness etc, that there is a pushback from clubs and the media who are jealous or resistant of our success or style.
This is her explanation.
By the way, she also says that she thinks the MRO attention given to Lynch Grimes and Vlaustin was a directive from the AFL in response to the RFC opposition to the soft cap salary cuts. Very interesting that a measured person like Peggy has come out and said this.

Very interesting comments by Peggy. It appears she is aware of the negative media reports.

BTW, in my opening post I forgot to mention the treatment of Stack getting jail time for covid breach.

Articles the last couple of days have been prompted by the rumour, but haven't actually addressed the rumour nor added any new information other than an unfounded claim that the coach's conduct has "rocked" club staff.

As someone said elsewhere, it's women's gossip magazine stuff.

Didn't she say at a previous AGM that the AFL has acted against Richmond's interests on several fronts? Might be time for Benny to make a move on Gil's job.

I think another factor is that they can’t seem to work out why we’re so good and how we keep doing it. They continually put it down to one or two players, but it’s not. It’s an entire team, all giving their all, every game and they all buy into what we’ve put in place. Hawthorn maybe did this during their three peat and the Dogs in 2016, but no other team does, not consistently. Everyone else is jealous and it hurts to wish that they’re the team that was the competition’s joke for so long.

The only way to deal with the crap media is to win another flag.

We used it as motivation last year and it worked so let’s use it for number 3 in a row.

This does concern me that our president who is very careful with words and very diplomatic would make these comments - I interpret that as the AFL is just an old boys club, has favourites, holds vendetta’s and lacks integrity.

According to a recent article in the Hun regarding the proposed external review, there is significant opposition within the AFL for an outsider like Gale to take over from McLachlan. Current AFL CFO and broadcasting boss Travis Auld is the preferred internal candidate. If that name sounds familiar he ran the GCS during their darkest days. Hardly a shining example of success compared to what Gale has achieved.

What gets them is now when they look at the Club that is the laughing stock, in some cases it is thier own Club.

He's also the one that does the fixture, IMO they need someone from outside but i'd prefer Benny stays where he is

Was thinking of the post below regarding the AFL thwarting us.
A couple of interesting comments at the AGM that confirmed what we as supporters already knew, 'it is us vs the AFL':

I'll paraphrase as cannot quote word for word:

1) Rob Dalton, the outgoing Vice President and Chair of the Finance Committee, when commenting on our strong financial position urged members not to get complacent, continue to attend games buy memberships and merchandise, we are a juggernaut and that The AFL is already "CONCERNED" about the power we are becoming!

2) Peggy O'Neal : When discussing the lack of a Re-Development Grant funding from the AFL/Gov't package and I think also being snubbed in the inaugural and 2nd AFLW intakes said:

We are learning not to rely on any favors from the AFL and will tread our own path!
