Feels like yesterday that the Skip was drafted , what a career it has been . Though Dusty may get all the big game accolades , th3 skips not far behind in impact in the games that matter.

just about my most prized possession is the first T Cotchin signature as a Tiger

Possibly the most ferocious champion footballer of all time.

If you absolutely had to distill this dynasty down to a teaspoon full of footballer,

its an essence of D.Martin and T. Cotchin imho.

sure, a tablespoon, a cup, a bottle looks different

Cotchins attack on the ball in key finals has been as ferocious as any player in the history of the game.

Was rather prophetic that his first kick was also a goal. Admittedly we lost the game, but weirdly enough it was against the Cats.
I remember *smile* freezing that arvo!

How's the great man Richo.... imagine if he was surrounded by our current team.... not sure we'd ever lose!

I place Cpt Cotch alongside players like Voss and Hodge in terms of the impact he has had in big moments in the biggest of games...... no less..... and they aren’t one off statements as he has regularly does it over many seasons - like those other two.

Players like Dangermouse aren’t even on the same page, let alone in the same sentence.

Edit: I love that footage AOC - I remember it clearly and that ball movement, so different to how we play now.

its a good call YOT.

Voss had an astonishingly ferocious attack on the footy. I watched him a lot live and his full pace horizontal launch at a contested ball was defiantly very T.Cotchin.

I might have missed it, but I cant recall Vossy taxing the physical toll on the opposition (Sheil - Mumford - Ablett - BOOM) that our superb captain does?

and as physically mighty and superb as Hodgey was, he tended more to land a stray elbow on a cold ear, rather than the full ribcage assaults our brave captain dispenses, didnt he?

But a superb conversation, the truly great toughs!

read Jack Dyers biography over xmas. A recurring theme was how his incredible football ability - his pace, his leap, his hands, his leg, has been a bit obscured by the toughness narrative, which was also a feature of his game. He was a revolutionary and unique champion big.

I certainly share his reverence in the value of uncompromising toughness in the game,

and like I told Cotchy, with love and a fixed gaze,

ive never seen a more uncompromisingly tough footballer in my life.

If you can play well and still lose that was the game.
Geelong had a super side that day and we only lost by 20pts, on the coldest day ive ever spent at the footy ever.
But watching Cotchin for the first time was worth it

Even back then we always got around each other when kicking a goal.
We have always been a class act club

Dangermouse etc phooey to the lot of em.

Geez even a Knockabout bloke still unnoticed or unrated by the masses in Broadty has these guns covered when it counts.

Has never played a bad game in a final Nathan and never let the Tigers down on the Big Stage,

Was one of our better performed against the Skunks in the 2018 horror show and didnt play against the Bears (when he shouldve).

Quite a few of this current side will be spoken about in the future the way the stars of our 60’s and 70’s teams have been.

Trent has been an excellent leader and could continue to be so.
However I think he has two years to go on his contract and at this point he seems unlikely to play beyond 22.

Dusty as the best player to wear the jumper in at least the last 50 years is the obvious successor. Maybe it is time for that hand over to occur.

Not sure it's something that Dusty would seek.

There's a few other candidates - Graham, Vlas, Grimes. Jack Ross down the track?

I’d hope that Trent starts the handover this year. For longevity of captain I’d be looking at Jack, Jack Graham that is. Dusty his definite on field leader, but I don’t think he wants the extra off field stuff that comes with having the (capt) next to his name.

George Castgna has to be in the conversation.
Pure leader.
Great trainer.
Inspiration.
Game changer.
My choice would be Big V or Graham then Castagna Vice Captain.
