I was in Sydney R22 in 2014 when Rance beat a whole team single handedly to get us into finals.
Nothing will ever change my mind that he’s easily the best KPD we’ve ever had.
Grimes in the same bracket as Merve Keane and Francis Bourke.
Rance stands alone.

Hardly qualifies for greatness. But do you remember the slapping he game Henderson one night at the MCG against Carlton? Almost felt sorry for the plodder.

If you remove the suddenness and crap around his exit, you can't go past Rance. In my view, he is the greatest defender I have seen (I would have him ahead of Scarlett and Silvagni). His ability to cover his own man plus his teammates men was out of this world. His ability to counter attach was top notch.

No doubt Dylan is underrated and I would have him as the 2nd best defender in RFC history.

That's garbage Zipper. Astbury was the weak link.
Are you serious?
Astbury is a 3 time premiership Richmond player. He has been a general down back.
He has been quality since the first time i saw him play against Hawthorn in a practise match.
I hope we have more weak links like Astbury.

I wouldn't rate Rance the best ever that's a stretch Glen Jakovich was a gun ,Chris Langford even Leppa had him covered my opinion.

He isnt the best ever at the club let alone in the comp.
Doull, Dench, Silivagni, Bourke, Langford,

Yep, Cox played the best quarter of his life on a gastrointestinally challenged Astbury, then Rance moved onto him and Cox didn't touch it again.
Rance got smashed by Degoey.
The run around goal on the boundary, He got out marked in the goal square.
Thats the one where he dropped his head and the Collingwood players went straight for him and that was it.
He was flked from that point.
Degoey hasnt played better game since that night.
The Cox marks were set up for him by short bubble kicks inside 50. Hardwick changed things around after half time plus Cox never plays well after half time. We got back into the game.
But that 12 mintues by Rance was enough for them to hold on.
Not many teams come back from 40+ points to win finals even against Collingwood.

Didn’t think they were serving full strength beer at that game??

Name one tall that Rance stopped?
Waite would bend him over.
Rance was shitt one on one.
He was good at the Mitch McGovern stuff.
He wasnt a Francis Bourke who could and would beat their opponent.
Watch some replays biff

Were they top of the ladder when we beat them? Nine in a row. Dusty dusty dusty is the famous Huddo call. Rance was monumental that day.

Rance was a twice in a lifetime player: Rance & St Francis in the same conversation.

I love Grimes, but to quote drily the the Great Jack Dyer, "he's a good ordinary player." A Gaspar. A Merv Keane. Better than Kellaway, and that's some thing. He stepped up; he's an All-Australian; he's a triple premiership player. He, with Bachar, is the backline co-captain. A champion and life member.

But.
For a time, Rance was the first picked in the side- the backbone-more important than Dusty. And Dusty is the greatest...
