If I had to pick 1 thing that separates Dusty from many of the other all-time greats, it’s that he plays without ego.

By that I mean his genuinely selfless ability to make those around him better, without batting an eyelid. If he sees space for a teammate to be in a 5% better scoring opportunity, he’ll put them into that space. And he won’t look around for personal credit like “look how selfless I am everyone” either, like most other selfless players do. No fuss, logical, team really does come first.

The whole team is like this actually, but Dusty stands out because it’s rare to see in a team’s best player.

Caught up with a very good mate of Dusty’s today ( who was a fairly handy player himself )
Reckons Dusty is in the best condition he’s ever been in and has had 1 drink in the last 12 months.
I asked him about leadership aspirations and he reckons he’s the spiritual on field leader anyway but can’t see him being interested.
When I asked him about succeeding Cotchy, he reminded me that Dusty is only a year younger!!
Dane Swan ... Did you ask him if the rumour of Dusty to Sydney on a Buddy type deal is true ?

Dustin Martin’s manager Ralph Carr addresses rumours of Sydney move

Dustin Martin’s manager says the Richmond star wants to be Australia’s answer to Tom Brady, fuelling speculation he could land in Sydney on a long-term deal after his current contract.

AFL superstar Dusty Martin wants to become Australia’s version of NFL legend Tom Brady, and it could mean him playing out his career in Sydney.
The country’s best-known footballer and three-time Norm Smith Medallist could play until he’s 38, says his agent Ralph Carr when asked about a rumour he wanted to play in Sydney.

Buddy Franklin is off contract at the Sydney Swans at end of next season, the same time Martin’s contract is up at Richmond.

“Dusty loves Sydney,” Carr said. “He’s there a lot and he originally lived in Camden with his dad. You’ve got to live there to really know how good it is.

“He loves rugby league, too, and he was hanging out with Cameron Munster the other day.”

Martin, 29, spends much of the AFL off-season in Sydney to escape the constant spotlight.

It’s why the Harbour City is appealing on a long-term contract.

“He’s capable of playing until he’s 36 or 38,” Carr said. “The way his body is he can be Australia’s version of Tom Brady.

“They’re talking about him as the greatest ever and I don’t think anyone will beat his record of three flags and three Norm Smith Medals.

“He wants to play for as long as he possibly can.”

Pressed on the Swans, Carr said: “I can’t say, that’s a big question. He’s got two years to go at Richmond and it’s too early to say where he might finish up.”

Dusty signed a 7 year deal at the end of 2017. So if my maths it’s correct that’s another 4 years.

I also thought it was end of ‘24. Far too much to expect of a ‘sports journalist’ to do some actual research and get a fact right.
Ralph was quoted saying two years. You'd think he'd remember how long his biggest client has left on his contract.

Guaranteed that our Free Agency compensation will be zero.
That's the way this current AFL roll.
End of 1st round compensation surely just like son of god who was aged 34, Dusty will only be 33.
But your right AFL loves changing the rules when it comes to RFC so donuts it will be.

The longer players like Stanley, Rohan and Dalhouse play, our success will continue.
Stanley has always been a very average footballer
These are players that can cost you games, I think Ellis was the player we had that could do the same, with a soft play, or a massive brain fade.

The only players i can think of would be Griffens, Elton, Gordon, Stengle, Brendan Bower and Clinton King
