Thought I’d start a thread on podcasts, sick of listening to the radio and music on Spotify.

Tried a few true crime ones but they really drag on and get dull quickly. Started listening to one called “The Sure Thing” about the 2 guys (one from the Bureau of stats and the other from the NAB) where the guy from the NAB got the guy from the ABS to give him unemployment data before the 11.30am release time. The NAB guy made $7.8m, the ABS guy $20k.

So, any recommendations?

Bit scared to say it on this forum but the sounding board with Hutchy and Barrett gives a good insight into the behind the scenes of media work.
Get out! Now.

:p

Ok, I'll give it a try.

Sounding Board
Footyology
Talking Tigers

But the one I can't recommend enough is The Howie Games. Mark Howard in-depth interviews, normally over an hour long, with a whole range of sports stars, Australian & International, well over 100 interviews so far.

Found him when I went looking for a Luc Longley interview after he was ignored in the Jordan docu. His interview with Howard is very good.

I don't mind the Howie Games but every guest is apparently the best ever and the bit with his kids is a cringefest. Not to mention the stupidity of the pineapple pizza question.

TT is good.

Footyology is ok to be the bit where they "rant off" is primary school stuff.

I'm not much of a podcast listener, but Alec Baldwin's Here's the Thing is excellent. Conversations with significant people in entertainment and other fields.

JB's rec of Wind of Change is a good one.

The Rewatchables is probably my fave. Great dives into classic (and some not-so classic) films.

Yeah Rewatchables is good.

Some more film/TV related...

Talking Sopranos with Michael Imperioli (Christopher Moltisanti) and Steve Schirripa (Bobby Baccala) do an interview with a special guest (actor/casting/production/director) from the show, then do an episode recap. They are into season three now I think. You have to really be into The Sopranos but if you are it's great.

The Plot Thickens - Turner Classic movies podcast - I listened to this as the first guest for about 8 episodes was Peter Bogdanovich, director of The Last Picture Show and other films in the early/mid 70s - protege of Howard Hughes, incredibly successful, had an affair with one of his stars who was then murdered by jealous ex husband, made some bombs, lost it all. Coincidentally Peter Bogdanovich guests on The Sopranos as Dr Melfi's shrink Elliot Kupferberg (sp?) if you can remember him.

Star 80, a very good film on its own right.

Yeah I haven't watched that Timbo... it's a really sad story and screwed up Bogdanovich for a long time.

Of his stuff I like Last Picture Show of course, and Saint Jack, lesser known, filmed in Singapore - the great Ben Gazarra is a pimp fighting with Triads for control, getting caught up with the CIA at the height of the Vietnam War.

Springsteen and Obama have a podcast out. It’s a pretty deep dive into things like race and identity in America, and how that’s expressed through music. Very well produced, as you’d expect.

13 Minutes to the Moon is also great, especially if you’re a science geek. It’s about Apollo 11. Exhaustively produced by the Beeb.

I am a patreon member of QAnon Anonymous. Fascinating socio-political discussions of conspiracy theories and the current nuttery. Funny too.

Couple of recommended Dyl & Friends postcasts I've listened to recently Kane Lambert's (podcast 38) from back in 2020 & just recently Alex Rance's from last week. Excellent listening.

Also this one with Benny Gale & Huddo.

I've started listening to the Saturday Afternoon Fever podcast by Matt Hardy and Lawrence Moody. Quite enjoying it and a great trip down memory lane. Being around the same age, many of the things he talks about ring very true.

Note: I haven't read the book so I don't know what difference that would make.
