Right on cue.
Yep. Other clubs all got a lash at the promising juniors through the academy system. Suddenly the academy system is all wrong n the flogs in suits at H.Q. decide the academy system has to be fixed immediately. Goddamn bunch of knob jockeys.

So what's the new process now ?.Do we have first opportunity at them or no.

If they are bid outside the first 20 picks then yes we have access. If within the 1st 20 then nope. Dogs, Pies and Port the big winners out of this.

Just another AFL half pregnant rule. Over paid n overpopulated flogs in suits at HQ justifying their existence again by fiddling with *smile*.

To be fair this should have probably already have been the rule. If players are good enough to be top 20 having not played footy for long (which was the idea of why the NGA's were needed) then they really don't need a new pathway to get into AFL channels they will be picked up anyway. The range of AFL recruiting is already quite far. The system was designed for players like Egg but its been treated as a new rort, and the Pies and the Dogs are the ones that have benefited the most of it.

The trouble is by keep changing the rules means some clubs miss out cause it sort of works out in the long run that most clubs will benefit.

This has always been a pet peeve.

We were constantly on the wrong end of draft changes during our 37 years of crapness.

Now they are positioning to change the academy after clubs have put resources into kids and now will be told it's not going to happen.

Rinse, repeat.

After Brendan takes over maybe a new rule which gives all clubs that haven't yet taken a first round academy player, the opportunity to cash up, sorry catch up.

Sydney's eligibility for academy players coming into their system is unfairly slanted their way with many more fitting into a academy player for sydney than Victorian clubs .

From what I understand sydney can list players that richmond in the same exact situation in Victoria can't.

In all fairness, GWS have an identical academy system with a 50/50 split on NSW zones.
Sydney have been doing it for longer and probably better.
Victoria’s talent pathway is hopeless. Rep sides are poorly managed and under resourced and slanted heavily on which circles you move in. They have a long way to go to harness young talent. The AFL needs to create a system that helps our kids tap into AFL quality systems instead of Private School football programs or Mum and Dad run get togethers. It’s only when they hit Vic Metro and TAC when things get serious.

The primary difference to our academy and Sydney's is that to qualify for ours you need to either be indigenous or have a parent born overseas and live in one of our zones for longer than two years.

Sydney on the hand, you just need to have been living in NSW for two years and your primary residential address in one of their zones.

Massive difference.
