He’s Zach Guthrie in a tigers jumper. Often prone to uninspiring and insipid efforts. Can’t tackle. Nervous around the contest. Makes me nervous when he’s around the contest.

Back-to-back career killing performances is a rare feat.

It was a mistake to give him another chance and he confirmed that yesterday.

The odd thing in this selection for me is that we haven't seen Hugo's ceiling, but i think we have seen Egg's ceiling unfortunately. He has some good skills and doesn't seem to panic with the ball, but i'm not sure he works hard enough to get hold of it in the first place, let alone stop an opponent from getting it.
We have other options.

I reckon its pretty harsh to scapegoat Eggs in that game.

objectively, Bolton, Aarts and Rioli were as bad.

Caddy was listed in Sydneys best.

Im not saying Eggs has a place in our basket

just that its harsh to judge him on that game.

it was an anomalous team performance of the type that is very hard for anyone to look good in, but least of all the last one in.

Reasonable comments ezy but I’m not judging him on that game alone; it’s his body of work over the games he’s played. He’s played well against North and GC but has never stood up in the cauldron.

IMHO he won’t make it.

nothing against him personally but he’s just nowhere near good enough. Staggered he got selected

Been a supporter but disappointed in him yesterday. Will be interesting to see what the selectors do with our injury outs given his abject failure in Adelaide last year.

Still only 9 games.

Im not a fan of a kid coming in and going straight back out after a bad performance, like to see him get another chance Friday.

Gave away 2 free kicks I d50 for 1g1 in space of 10min from 2 sloppy high tackles . His positives failed to overshadow that

I think most acknowledge that was a poor team performance, however for me the biggest issue is the reasons why he was delisted have not been worked on.

He still pulled out of contests
He still lacked that defensive intent and 2 way running
He still didn't make his decisions quick enough inviting pressure on his disposal or the next persons mark. It still goes down as an efficient disposal I believe if the player he could to had a chance to mark it, but the slow decision making makes it easier to close space and spoil. This happened several times.

Its that he doesn't appear to have learnt. When he has plenty of time, he's a beautiful kick, we all know and can see that, but thats only part of becoming an AFL footballer.

I'd much rather we send him back to the VFL with these to work on and see what Ralph Smith and Mansell can do if Houli isn't right.

Hes no good, but think we will struggle next week and perhaps they should give him the opportunity for redemption of a sort.

You saw him last year against Port right?
Yes that’s what I mean. He was horrible last year, insipid. Like he is most games I’ve watched him. Give him a chance against the same opponent and ground he had his worst game and see if he can turn it around. Unlikely he’ll be any different but I don’t give us much chance anyway.

In hindsight
Dimma was asked about him post match (bizarrely I thought).

I think it's safe to say he wasn't impressed, and was very diplomatic, but there are non-negotiable things that DES doesn't seem to do.
Yes this was Egg's chance to redeem himself with the non-negotiables. He admitted he wasn't as prepared previously and worked on rectifying it. He talked the talk but unfortunately didn't walk the walk. Hard to see him getting another chance.

That’s my take on it as well. I will be staggered if he is playing this week. Houli’s return can’t come quick enough.

Wasn’t the only player who played bad last week but he definitely was the weakest link. Just not up to it IMO. Shouldn’t play again.

FWIW, I reckon we will beat Port. Just a feeling we will redeem.

Teams we beat in finals the year before play out of their skins to beat us in the early season. Meh.
Port to win by 12

Was disappointed with Eggs disposal decision making. Itvwas unadventurous and unattacking, lacked courage with the ball.
Didnt seem to want to win.
Disappointing
