Just saw some stats they posted on Footy Classified. The short kicking makes our spare defender non existent. The opposition carves us up between the arcs and then it becomes almost impossible to close down the space in our back 50.
In other words we are getting smashed in uncontested possessions and it’s hurting us. We are ranked #18 in the competition. Rectify this and we will be back on track.

I think settling back to our Marlion - Kmac wings will help measurably.

They shut off the corridor and get back better than any combo in history.

I suspect we will see our best when J.Caddy is playing VFL.

weve started every year for the last 5 with a counter-productive tweak that we jettison promptly.

not to mention the best spare in the business is sitting in the stands currently.

Too late unfortunately, this rectum thumper has already done a lot of damage to the game.
I hope he gets the job & stuffs the pussie cats as much as he has our game.

I have not heard one dissenting voice in the media on the new stand rule. It's almost as if there has been a directive from above to all media orgs warning against negativity. If anything the amount of raving about the saving of the game is completely exaggerated. The amount of times I've heard comments about how the game has been in decline for the last 5-10 years (coming from the anti-richmond brigade) and this has revived it - kermit uses statements like it was in terminal decline - drives me spare. Surely there is someone in the media that isn't a fan of the stand rule?

In breaking news, SHocking has come out and said that they will be using 4 field umpires in Richmond games from next week. He said he feels having only 3 currently disadvantages the opposition too much as there were blatantly obvious tiggy touchwood frees that weren’t given to them. The extra player, I mean umpire, will prevent such games getting so close to the death and allow the opposition to feel like they have achieved something. Also, we will be introducing a sub umpire. This is to sub off any umpire paying obvious free kicks to Richmond in the forward line

Probably plenty of critics who are just too gutless to say so. Contested ball players from the past would be hating this.

I'm absolutely crapped off with the game as it is now. All the rule changes, the p155 poor umpiring, (including the absolute bias shown by some of them. I'm not just talking about the Richmond games either, it seems that some teams get a far better "rub of the green" than others.)
The media, the commentators, SHocking is a compromised incompetent, the AFL itself is a joke of an organisation which is running the competition to suit its agenda, NOT for the us, the fans the people who really matter.
From the outset the game was designed to be A CONTEST, but not any more,. Now it's a game of keepings off, statues and incompetent (biased) umpiring.
I don't watch the game on TV any more because of the crap commentary, the poor umpiring & the horrible "spectacle" that's now displayed. It also works out very expensive replacing 55inch TVs every second week
I don't watch any of the footy shows, again because of the imbeciles they choose to use on them. The only one of any footy intelligence is N Reiwoldt the rest!!!!!

Thank goodness for PRE, it keeps me sane, (well almost):))

Jake Niall Peter Ryan article in The Age praising the new rule.

"Scoring has increased and, most crucially, end-to-end ball movement has become easier, as teams take advantage of the man on the mark’s concrete boots to slice through the defensive systems that have created a swarm of players around the ball.

Fans, who typically plead with the AFL to “leave the rules alone”, have been happy with this change. Players have adjusted, umpires are learning to police it. The television ratings are up. A rule change that appeared small has made a big difference."

Fans have been happy with this change? What fans are they? Bulldogs fans? Swans fans?

They also said fans complain about lower scores? Since when?

Another paid advert for the AFL.

It's insane. No fans are for it, only the sycophantic media. And the scoring hasn't increased at all (excluding obviously 2020).

Not even that, I've heard specifically mention 2017 as the starting point of this "maul" and the poor football. Oh how easy it is to see how that coincides with when we started to win. What about the decline in scoring and the increase in stoppage numbers since around 2009-2010, funnily enough a similar time as GEELONG started being very good. Its no coincidence that Geelong are not gaining many benefits from these rules changes (if that was SHockings aim he screwed it up) rather than it all being this bad boy Tiges that screwed the game up.

Yes the subtle messaging is all football has been *smile* since the tigers started winning.

The amazing thing is the tigers play the lowest possession most direct attacking style of game. No mucking around with the ball, just very well organised defensively. It’s not our fault teams have moved the ball slowly and cautiously against us. This whole rule has been designed to stop our defensive dominance. To enable lesser players more time and space.
Winning a flag this year could very well be the greatest achievement of this group.

Yeah I thought that article was BS.

Scoring up - not looking so good this week is it?

Fans love it - crowds might be up on 2020 (those first few rounds were barely attended) but not on 2019. They can claim some COVID restriction rubbish but games are below limited capacities. In any case, has he any evidence of this at all? He's pulling that crap from his rear end.

Fans have not complained about low scoring, it has been the media and their agenda of more goals = more ad breaks which has been the driver of trying to get scoring up. Everyone knows this.

Some of the other stats in that article were interesting - how is less tackles better? Debatable but not better by definition.

Less stoppages? Would be nice if the great unwashed could get some stoppages stats online because I can't find them anywhere. In any case, the rise in stoppages is at least in part a result of free kicks not being paid and a ball up happens instead.

That article appears to have been written to try and convince people that it’s all okay and they’re saving the game. It’s propaganda pure and simple. Betting money seems to be what the AFL loves the most. If a bunch of punters suddenly stopped betting in the football and told the bookies exactly why and it had to do with the changes to the game, watch them break their necks to try and change it back.

Crowds are well down. They can claim reduced capacity but many seats are going begging. I think people have woken up that the ticket outlets are combining with ground managers to gouge punters.
