GAME DAY THREAD - TIGES V POWER

I’m not sure RFC wants the home fixture as it doesn’t draw much gate

So why do we play GWS or other low drawing teams at the G. I read also that someone mentioned that but not sure if that rings true.
The last time we played Port at the G there were 42K. With this new found rivalry, we would be getting 45K against them. That's a very healthy crowd against an interstate team.

Possibly, but there are other angles to consider. For instance, Richmond might be high on Port’s wishlist for similarly commercial reasons. If our priorities lie elsewhere, this might be a fixture we cop as a solid AFL citizen.

Not when there are premierships on the line.

I dunno, it’s impossible the predict how strong other teams will be from year to year.

There’s bound to be give and take in fixture negotiations. We might have requested Sydney at the G, for example (and fluffed it). That crowd was bigger than anything Port could muster in Melbourne.

I just don’t think Port features heavily on our radar.

Just re-watched the game, Port and Richmond both had long periods of dominance but could not translate that onto the scoreboard. Clearly it meant a lot to Port, hope the way they carried on will be stored in the memory banks for later this year.
Few impressions:
1) Our center clearance defensive work is well below par, Cotchin early was good and Bolton and Nankervis late, would have like to have seen Graham play close to Boak, who killed us.
2) Lynch simply has to compete and bring the ball to ground on that long kick out of the D50. Was outmarked too many times. Needs a bag of goals.
3) We're too predictable kicking into F50--too many bombs to Lynch with 3 opponents.. A third taller marking player may be a good option.

Considering Houli and Ross have not played full games in 2021 and we had 2 debutants there was a lot to like compared to prior weeks. I would bring in CCJ and push Baker up closer to goal. As others have suggested, I like the idea of Pickett as a tagging player in the midfield, I would try him on Steele next week.

Or as recent GF opponents also.

Coaches votes. One coach thought wines was BOG, but the other coach didn’t include him in the top 5. The other coach had grey as BOG, but the first coach didn’t have him in his top 5!

In fact, they only rated lambert and boak similarly.

Must be wrong. Curtis Deboy isn't mentioned in the votes :D

Amon gets 2 votes with his 25 disposals (71SC) which is average at best. rebound 50 = 2 times, 3 inside 50's
Short 31 disposals (125 SC points), rebound 50 = 10 times. 3 inside 50's and 1 goal

Yeah it’s annoying. Dominated that game after half time but yet again struggled to score. Happens every year in the first half of seasons and sometimes like on Friday we pay the price.

A good player, but something's wrong when our supposedly gun key forwards – and their support crew – allow this guy to get in the votes.

This tells me we lacked a third aerial presence up forward to reduce Aliir's influence. Or was his influence mainly due to poor entry inside 50, allowing for easy intercept marks?

Would Caddy up forward have put more pressure on their defence, and made Aliir more accountable, by hitting packs, creating separation and providing another genuine marking target?

Having said that, if CCJ comes of age this year, this could be the missing ingredient to boost both our ruck and forward divisions.

Watch the marking contest on the edge of our goal square just before Gray rushes the point. Lynch has front position, Clurey bear hugs him (I've already lost count of the number of times I've heard commentators say "they're paying that every time" every time it's paid to some other team's forward), then as Aliir jumps for the mark/spoil in front of Lynch, Clurey has a hand on Lynch's shoulder, holding him down. Aliir obscures it, so the umpire might not have seen it.

CJ in (or Chol finally plays to his ability) makes these tactics much harder for defences to employ against us.

That's because deep down you know we should've won, we blew it. That second half we dominated most of it but didn't get the reward on the scoreboard.

I have told port supporters who celebrated like they won the GF, watch that game again and tell me how many goals were contributed by the umps especially by Deboy, Those freebie goals kept you in the game.

Anyway, hopefully like previous years as the season progresses this loss will have no bearing on us making the top 4.

Yep.
*The Gray mark gets me angry because if big v was there the would've intercepted it.
*What the *smile* was Balta thinking holding Georgiadis.
*Why didn't Edwards take out Butters & the Bow and Arrow earlier.
*What was lynch doing, mark the ball fffs.
*Kick the ball off the ground Georgie.
No im ok,

Yeah we were close, but we were smashed in the centre and we need to fix that. We need to learn from this and get better.

Only April so time to get better, but must bank a few wins.

With our best clearance midfielder out of the team, we are in deep doo doos. See 2020 season for further evidence. Dion is vital to the way we play
