It's been bastardised with any amount of crappy renos and add ons e.g. the coaches boxes in the middle of the stand, is in a rotted state, covered in advertising hoardings and signage and on and on.

Where were the conservationists and heritage protectors when all this was going on ? Sounds like they might be doing a bit of...wait for it....wait for it....GRANDSTANDING !

(Whoooa ! C'mon that's gold.)

Yeah, blame the club for the COVID Pandemic, Peggy really should have kept it under control
Yes, because that's what I was doing.

You're a master of reducto ad absurd um.

Look, I've kept the MRC for the GF guarantee, so if I was super pissed off with it then I'd give it away and let someone else on the list.

But I did like the social club aspect, particularly for watching the VFL games. It's part of the value of the membership. And the club could have had it open this year, even with reduced numbers, they just couldn't be bothered dealing with things like QR codes. Which considering we all paid for a GF we didn't get to go to last year is kind of irritating.

And when we were told last year that we were not going to get a ticket, they could have done something for us to mitigate the lost experience. Upgrade to reserve seat or home and away (probably unlikely), give our GF guarantee to our QLD friends/family, or even just get us one of those premiers hats, or just a commemorative ticket stubb or something. There are a million things they could have done.

Is it a deal breaker they didn't? Of course not. Because COVID. But it doesn't change what I said. Which is the MRC membership isn't even giving you the things the MRC membership gives you. It's essentially been a donation for a year and a half.

All I read there is what you want from the club, how the club owes you something, how you're not happy the club hasn't tossed freebies or upgrades your way, how the Global pandemic and it's impact on the world shouldn't stop RFC from giving you what you think you deserve. I guess that's your right and good for you. You've paid your money and you are expecting value from it.

The alternate view is that last year, and this year, the world is coping with a catastrophic scenario, one no one has ever seen or dealt with before. There's no play book or best practice. Everyone is playing it by ear and hoping they make the right decisions when so much is being impacted. It's impacting all of us in every facet of life. Whether I'm getting the maximum value out of my MRC membership wouldn't be on my top 100 list of things to worry about right now. In fact, I always considered the MRC membership as a donation to the club, nothing more.

But each to their own.

It's not on top of my top 100 things I'm worried about. TBH it's not even something I'm worried about at all.

Just an observation that the club's not managing its membership categories particularly well. All my tiger mates with reserved seat memberships, home and away memberships, or 3121 memberships have similar issues. Is there a reason that they're struggling? Definitely. Which is why I'm not banging down doors, ringing the club, sending emails or demanding my money back. I get all of that. I'm pretty comfortable with it all. Just think there's room for improvement.

I think that even pre pandemic the club was having a few issues with accommodating the huge increase in our membership.

If the club owes me anything for the thirty odd years of financial investment and emotional suffering I endured, then it has more than repaid it in the last four years.

You're the one who suggested MRC Members should get voting rights on the new development. I just pointed out that MRC Members ain't getting much.

Which I still reckon is true. Or is any level of critical discussion about any part of our club verboten?

Agree 100% Tempany. Coming back to Melbourne from a few years OS I love the beautiful Victorian and other period architecture and appreciate it like I never did before. Other cities are knocking it all down, compare Melbourne to Sydney and you'll notice the difference. It's a beautiful grandstand and should be preserved.

Not everything the club does is right, and this is one thing they've got badly wrong IMO.
Many of us would share your view about beautiful Victorian architecture. This is not that and while there are many around that are, this particular one has few redeeming features.

except it's a major part of our history at PR.

Anyway, what will be will be. It's a shame we can't extend the ground as per our needs and keep it, but it seems not.

Wouldn't be too hard to incorporate a similar look, if only the yellow woodwork and clock hanging from the roof, as a nod to the look of the old stand.

The Jack Dyer stand looks ok, but that's where it ends. To be frank it's been past it's use by date for well over 4 decades. The top "spectator" section is basically useles, the internals are totally inappropriate for a Fully Professional sporting organisation. There is no way that it can be rejigged to make efficient use of the space available.

It breaks my heart to say it but the only option is to pull it down and build a facility suitable for the clubs real needs.
