What about the ones who come to a complete and utter stop when turning left at an intersection. Or drive way. Like they come to a complete stop, think about it, then dribble at 2kph like they’re turning a massive water wheel inside the car.
Yep. Right turners are the worst coz they hold up traffic. Like an elephant doing a 180.

Last week I’m in a side street to Centre Road turning left, feeding into the flow of traffic on Centre Road. There’s a guy in front of me. He has 2 lanes to feed into - the inside one being completely clear because a parked car 100m up the road is blocking any traffic from using it.

He sits there. And sits there. And sits there. For some reason he wants to use the outside lane to merge into. He just won’t turn on the inside lane. But even then he won’t merge in - not even with a 70m gap in traffic.

Another guy comes up behind me. We’re both stuck behind this dribbler. Maybe 3 to 4 mins which is a long time. Guy behind me is getting agitated too. Eventually I have to get on the horn. He finally feeds out. We go down the road. Pull up at the lights. He puts his car in reverse, sides up to me in the other lane, unwinds his window and unleashes a tidal wave of abuse.

They're out there. And lots of them. That’s why I want to set up my company. Immense money for me and the government. We’ll see how driving standards improve when I put 200 unmarked surveillance cars out there.

People that swing out to the right when trying to turn left annoy the crap out of me too. They seem to think they are driving a tank.

What was your response? I experience a lot of slow idiots (can I say mostly fem.....) who take hooooouuuuuuuuuurs to turn right on a roundabout when there is clearly no vehicle approaching towards them.

My response was “I completely understand your condition. There are people who can help.”

The weirdest one I've seen was in the US. I actually saw someone eating a kebab whilst using a knife and fork whilst driving.

I would never do that, but I have eaten other things, chocolate bars, chips, sandwiches etc. Nothing that requires utensils!
I once was following a woman on the west gate freeway who appeared to be folding her laundry…

When I used to smoke rollies I could drive and roll a smoke at the same time, no need to slow down :p

But I can't stand the way most people drive. I ride a bike to work and used to drive trams, it is unbelievable what some of the morons out there do.

People fly in front of a 40 tonne tram and then come to a screaming halt - then they feign surprise when said tram, which cannot steer, ends up in their back seat after pushing them 200m down the road.

Cars going around corners a a glacial pace is unreal, I often have to hit the anchors in roundabouts because they are so slow, and I'm over 50, smoke and am riding a pushbike!

As for the issue of 4WDs and people who can't drive them, I have the solution, simple really: you want to buy that nice shiny 4WD? Ok, you set them up in a fairly average parking spot and tell them to reverse park the nice shiny (and absolutely huge) 4WD - if you can't park it you can't buy it. For the life of me I don't know why they buy the things anyway, 4WDs are a compromise on city roads because they are built for a different purpose - to go bush. Most of the 4WDs I see have never been bush, a nice station wagon is a far more practical car.

You're a man after my own heart. I'm always telling my wife if I controlled licencing these sort of doofuses wouldn't be able to drive in my state. Along with:

- slow turners/phone users at right hand-arrows. Be ready to go almost like its an F1 grid so as many cars as possible can get through you selfish gits
- non-mergers - all those clowns who slow down to merge, or in some cases stop. You are the reason for stop/go traffic flow on freeways. If you can't merge you can't use a freeway.
- slow right-hand lane drivers. KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING. If you can't manage that you can't have a licence
- people using phones and texting whilst driving - its dangerous *smile* you don't deserve a licence
- people turning right or left but not getting over so others can get past them (where possible of course). Think of others you ignorant *smile*
- people who halve there speed when the rain starts. Its ok to drive more cautiously but some people (usually non-mergers) treat the road like an ice rink
- tailgaters in school zones. It's 40 you clowns and I'll always drive at 40 in them as we all should, you tailgate in these areas you lose you licence
- pusher iners - you know whop you are, Those people in peak hour who knowingly drive in a through lane and push in at the last minute and save themselves from being in the queue. eg on footy days the Punt rd exit off the Monash is always slow, so many drive in the outside lanes and cut in at the exit. One warning followed by a loss of licence in my world. Why shouldn't you queue like the rest of us? You should be able to hold them out and actually drive into their vehicle and not be at fault insurance wise. You just say - pusher inner - and they are automatically at fault.
- people driving slowly down a street in the middle of a lane looking for an address. They never use the indicator to let you know what they are doing they just drive slowly half in and half out of the lane. You can't get past them and have to be a mind reader to know their intentions. You give them a toot and they stare at you with that dumb "what" look. Pull over and work out where you are and where you are going and don't be so selfish.
- I'll add my pet peeve on cyclists, those clowns that ride down narrow-laned thoroughfares like North Rd. Yes, it is legal to do so but its also amazingly dangerous. These clowns must have a death wish. Worse, when the lights are red and they go past 15 cars in the gutter and pull out just slightly ion front of the first car so you all have to go through the overtaking process again. If you wanted to be treated like a car, act like a car. Don't make it harder for everyone else, sit in the line like everyone else. Or better still, ride where there is a path or bike lanes. Why they risk their lives (imagine in a few years time when all these addicted phone youths get licences and text whilst driving?) by riding on inappropriate streets?

There are a stack more behaviours that lack common courtesy but these are the main ones that drive me spare.

I'll add drivers turning left at an intersection via a slip lane who need to come to a complete stop before looking over their shoulder for traffic coming from the right. You should be able to get around the corner without slowing dramatically if there is no traffic coming.

That's another one! There are a number of these now with the better planned junctions. These people have a dedicated lane to continue in yet they often brake??? I can half understand if its the first time on a section of road. One warning and then you lose your licence in my state if you continue to do it.

One more: the Burnley Tunnel when it’s free flowing.

It’s 80kph and 3 lanes going in. It’s 80kph and 3 lanes inside it. It’s 80kph and 3 lanes going out. But the amount of **** idiots who jump on their brakes for no reason inside and slow down to 65-70, then accelerate back to 80 when they’re out the other side does my **** head in.

Oooh it’s a tunnel. And it’s dark and spooky. There’s not much traffic and Im on or below the speed limit but I better jump on my brakes and come to a crawl and cause others to jump on their brakes too and cause a pile up.

And they slow down going up the hill!! If you have cruise on at 80 you either roar past if lucky enough to have a free lane or have to jump on your brakes. Those same morons then go roaring past you at 90kmh when they get out of the tunnel. Licence cancelled in my world.

Oh, and cyclists in Mt Eliza/Frankston South that ride on Humphries rd. On a Saturday morning you get them stopping at the top of Humphries Rd just beyond the top roundabout. Often there is a group of 10-15 that pull over in the bike lane. But they spillout into the traffic lane. And just sit there talking, expecting drivers to stop if there is oncoming traffic or swerve around them. Just get off the road you selfish *smile*. And then they ride 2 abreast with one of them a few feet in the road and not in the bike lane so cars cannot pass them without risks. Ride in the bike lane you *smile*.

Pusher inners drive me spare, apparently their time is worth more than anyone else's time. Selfish pricks. The classic is StKilda Junction going North - the number of cars who push in to the lane leading to Punt Rd is astounding and they do it all the time. I try and prevent them but others let them in (they can lose their licence for letting them in as far as I am concerned). I would put those tall things between the lanes so they can't do it. I almost ran straight into an Uber once there as he came across from about 3 lanes away. If you get stuck in the no turn lane . . . you need to not turn.

Now, cyclists on roads. Ok, I'll fess up, I am a cyclist who mainly rides on roads. Bike paths can be a pain, shared paths are a f***ing nightmare. I understand where you are coming from with North Rd, I presume you mean between East Boundary Rd and Huntingdale. Part of the problem there is a lack of alternatives, not sure exactly how you go East from Nepean Hwy around that area, Centre Rd would be just as bad. I don't need to go that way but it looks hard. Now, if the traffic is really bad and basically not moving then the fact I use so much less road means I will filter at traffic lights. If the traffic is clearing each light sequence than that is just silly, sit behind the car which arrived at the lights immediately before you and go with the traffic. I will add that, legally, if there is more than one lane in the direction of travel then you must change lanes to pass another road vehicle (and, yes, a bicycle is a road vehicle). No one I share the road with is in any doubt as to how to pass me on a bike - I ride in the middle of the lane. I also avoid bad traffic, I ride to work every day along the beach and only use StKilda St as far as North Rd because the traffic is too much of a pain beyond there, the cars just get in my way, and the bike path along the beach is quite good.

I'll add another thing which p*sses cyclists off - on street parking masquerading as a bike lane. If there are cars parked in the section of the road with bicycle symbols painted on the asphalt I won't go there unless I have to, or if I am sure there are no people in the cars and I can let a few moving cars get past me. Those things are called suicide lanes by cyclists and there was a guy who died after being doored on Sydney Rd a couple of years ago which is a testament to why we call them suicide lanes. If you are familiar with Beach Rd from Albert Park to StKilda have a look at that on-road bike lane. It is wide enough to be in the bike lane and clear of opening doors - that is the only way to design a bike lane.

The traffic could be much better if it wasn't for the dreadful worst 10% of drivers.

I can't comment on that specific road but there are 2 things which occur to me.

1) if they are stopped then they have no reason to be on the road, and that includes the bike lane as the bike lane is also a traffic lane (bicycles are traffic too).

2) hard to see in a car but some bike lanes which are actually the road shoulder are near impossible to cycle in as they are terrible surfaces, patched up and full of potholes and covered in crap because they are not swept and get lots of road debris.

Could be the specific road which causes the second issue. Morons are the cause of the first, morons who would be the first to get pissed off when a car stops in a bike lane but see no problem when they do it on their bikes.

I live in a street where the houses and main road is separated by service roads. The local Council in their wisdom planted bushes on the strip between the roads. That’s fine except they don’t maintain them. Trying to exit the service road, especially when I leave for work very early in the morning, or in the evening is fraught with danger as the bushes , while not huge, obscure traffic coming through. I thought I’d pop into the council to report the hazard in person. Got there at 2.45 pm only to be stopped by , I guess a customer service person before entering the customer service part of the building. She asked how she could help. I explained the problem I wanted to report. She said unfortunately customer service hours are 10am- 2 pm Monday to Friday. WTF!!! I couldn’t believe it and asked her to repeat it. I replied that the majority of ratepayers are at work during those hours. How is that customer friendly? She said I would have to ring the number she gave me to make the report, again, during those hours. I was polite but in disbelief at how stupid this all was. I can’t go before work as they aren’t open, I can’t go after work as they’ve long finished for the day and I can’t go on saturdays as they don’t work weekends. I have to ring while I’m on a break at work and hope that I’m not on hold for ages , as is usually the case, to report a dangerous hazard. I guess if I get out my chainsaw and take matters into my own hands they will find people working outside those hours to find the time to issue me with a fine. I’m guessing they will have no issue raising my rates this year even though they are cutting services.
So bloody annoying:mad:
