I reckon it is pretty extreme when one player gets rubbed out for potential to cause injury and another player opens up an opponent's face with blood everywhere and is not suspended.

Not to mention headbutting is fine, in the very same game.

Might add the attempt to rip Marlion's head off not 5 seconds before his infringement.

It is getting pretty extreme.

Tribunal/MRP has always been a law unto itself. Even Ezy thinks it was a week.

Save your outrage for more important things.

It's absolute rubbish compared with what they've let go. Hocking's MRO has been generally lenient this year.

Game needs a regime change and if the AFL has to go COVID-broke for it to happen, I'm OK with that.

If only that were so. What we have often here is "Gil and Hocking are out to get us, Hocking is changing the rules to benefit Geelong and penalise us, the media is all out to get us, there is a concerted effort on all sides to victimise us, all the other fans hate us and we don't get any respect".

Then in this atmosphere of paranoia and fear any unfavourable incident eg Pickett's suspension is cast in the same mode of conspiracy and contrasted to other incidents that are vaguely similar whether in the same game or four years ago.

This site is the perfect example of an echo chamber right now. The AFL is inconsistent, yes. Yes, we are feared, yes plenty dislike us, yes we on the bum side of umpiring decisions sometimes. Yes, nuffies in the media don't like us. So what. Ignore them. The whinging and self-pity I see on these boards a lot of the time is pretty sad. We've just won three out of four flags, we have a great side who play great footy. Yes life is tough, so what. Harden up and enjoy what we have now because for sure it won't last forever.

Just my opinion, carry on.
Paranoia & Fear? Self-Pity? Life is tough? Stay away from the extreme views and you find posters with legitimate concerns that aren't just invented. The club and players are showing signs of being fed up. At least the players can do something about it on the field. Supporters can only vent.

Personally I've really enjoyed the last four years of success and I'm not convinced our time is over yet. The fact that Marlion got a week or Robbo and Whately don't say enough nice things about us doesnt worry me in the slightest.

Each to their own. I've got the original ump thread on ignore - won't ignore this one as I'm a Marlion fan so I'll have to suck it up.

In a week there'll be some new travesty of justice to get outraged about anyway.

Mostly 2 and 3 but not as extreme as you make out.

Case closed.
Really difficult to decide which is manifestly greater here: your ignorance or your arrogance!
Who do you think you are to disparage the posts of literally hundreds of Tiger fans, including *many expert, knowledgeable and vastly experienced watchers over decades, by claiming 'Case closed' ? To think you can dismiss what they have posted over hundreds of pages on various threads as if they don't know the game, or even what they are seeing weekly in front of their own eyes. Compared to who/ You?

With you and TBR, it's basically a severe case of: "There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know."

That's the main reason I have hardly bothered to contribute to these threads on umpiring much recently, because for me it's just blatantly obvious. I'm more totally frustrated in terms of what any of us can do about it. You can now observe several of these posters on PRE that I refer to above* considering quitting their following of AFL as a result. IMO, this not due to them being paranoid conspiracy theorists in every instance. That's insulting. To restate it: we just seek being allowed to compete on an even playing field.

If you merely had a look at Barret's latest anti-RFC diatribe that I posted the link to above: the 'lionising" (note that pun) of Mathieson dubbing himself the barometer? For what achievements ... exactly? Head-butts; high-shots ignored by umpires; for getting a few consecutive games due to injuries? Then the veiled threats to Dimma and RFC for having the temerity to express a viewpoint on matters that really affect and frustrate them. Who do you think Barret is the stalking horse for? Or, no, he's just such a brave, independent journo, expressing his own views? o_O

In the end, I can only wonder how committed a follower you are.

Got me beat as tribunal hand down was " the tackle that could have injured a player ". Starevich was not injured in the tackle although it was a bit high in the contest ". Fifty meters was the penalty which was fair enough. The point in question is " it could have had ,but it did not ". The "could have had " does not exist as it did not occur therefore the tribunal is out of order in penalising a player for an incident that did not occur. Tigers not appealing as they are in "woke' mode. The same with Bolton 20 g's for going to help his buddy Rioli. Tigers "woke lot " told Bolton to apologise for doint that...It was cringe worhy

You got it Tigerman. We have no choice but to kowtow to a vindictive and authoritarian corporation who have virtually total control over football nationally. Or go broke.
Forced to capitulate due to prohibitive and punitive financial penalties. The $100k fine for Stack and CCJ in the hub plus Brooke's (way beyond any other breaches by other clubs personnel) + $20k for Shai + $10k for Marlion contest. It's already probably cost us assistant coaches plus VFL, and players, and apparently the bigger clubs will be hit harder in the near future to fund equalization, in order to subsidize the battlers like Norf, Suns and co.

If you dare defy the AFL you soon get a (financial) gun held at your head.

Well I could vent about the dictatorship of the incompetent in Canberra but I doubt I will have any more impact on that s***show either. Might as well vent about the footy and the dictatorship of the incompetent at Harrison House as well.

I'm not really sure where to find your logic in this one.

An injury doesn't mean someone did something wrong. And an action can be against the rules.

I.e if you punch someone in the face, you'll get weeks, even if they're not hurt. But if you go up for a mark and concuss someone with your knee, you won't.

Which is how it should be, right?

If you cannot see the logic in DS's post then that's a poor reflection on you. Goldstein's hit on Wright was quite late, with a closed fist, a fair way from the ball, cut him open forcing him off the field (profusely bleeding - great look for the kids watching), possibly concussed. Nothing but a fine. But Pickett's suspension upheld for 'potential to cause injury'. Not any actual injury!! A clause formerly invoked and used against other RFC players previously.

Lions player who whacked Marlion definitely high, like numerous other instances of high hits on our players like Baker, Dusty and Short, also simply ignored - both by the umpires in the game and by Christian's highly selective review process (see Grimes incidents in Bulldogs win).

This taxes your logical thinking abilities?

Nah, your credibility just sank again. Not saying you are a weasel, but you sure behave like one.

Dude, the reason I don't engage with you is your tendency to jump to aggression and insults in the first post you disagree with someone. If you didn't do that there would be more chance of a meaningful exchange.

You are now the only PREnder I have on ignore - have a nice day.

I consider it a privilege and honour. You are just so insipid and totally avoided responding to my post. Don't try BS about "aggression"; it's merely exchanging views. When challenged you turn to jelly.
Go and hide under your bed. :rotfl2

Not quite. Goldstein punched someone in the face caused him to bleed & forced him to leave the ground, no suspension only a fine.

As has been said many times throughout this discussion, it's the inconsistencies that really rankle.
If Picketts action was worth a week surely Goldsteins was too.

Yeah there are inconsistencies. But I can't see the logic in 'it didn't cause an injury so fair game.'

Lot's of players get rubbed out without causing injury.
