Geezus! You can come n play Santa at my house anytime. Cholly would be on the bare minimum type deal at the moment, around $100 - $150k per year n match payments at best. If he keeps playing decent footy he'll get a modest pay boost and probably two year deal. He'd need to be tearing games n finals apart by seasons end to get anywhere near $500k n 3/4 years.
But other clubs are screaming out for his type and will pay overs

Hardwick referred specifically to Mabior as a #3 ruck in his pre-Brisbane-game presser. A #3 ruck against an All Aust Grundy. To give perspective to the slaughter. To the inevitability.

Very few sides have even a number #2 ruck. Oh. Brisbane does. McInerney. But he bats #1. Nobody has a #3 ruck who can pass at #1 at AFL level.

If Rowan Marshall has to bat #1 he will get massacred. #2 ruck.

Exceptions? All exceptions levelled up at the instant of becoming exceptions.

#1 rucks? There aren't more than ten in the AFL. #2 rucks? Soldo is easily the best of them. If not him Nankervis. You like Marshall? A McEvoy class ruck. A fit Soldo/Nank find out if Marshall has trouble with the *smile* sticking to his fur.

We have Samson Ryan coming through. Excellent.

We can keep Mabior as a #3 ruck for next year. And if he doesn't level up he may not get opportunities and he may be adives that there are better options elsewhere. But he's getting the chance to level up to #2. He won't have to do much to be as hard as RoMA. Not to say he'll be as good.

This bloke was running under the ball every time when we recruited him. He was still doing that at the beginning of this year. But by mid 21 he'd learned to run at the ball when it was in front of him. But not into players.

We can't trade him. We keep Mabior Chol and we develop him. He has steadily improved all year. A credit to him and the coaches. Maybe he does level up to #2 ruck class. If not Samson Ryan will pass him. And may do anyway.
Just 3 matches ago he was up against gold coast's #5 ruck who is shorter than our 300game flanker. And was pantsed.
Thrashed in the bounces, in the air and on the dirt.
Chol is a #3 who can be beaten by a bug hearted committed gutser giving his all for the team.
Yes Chol gets beat by Niknat, Grundypants and Romo and Poro. But he,s gotta learn to draw, play defense ruck and shut it down.
And beat the gold coast midget.

He was terrific on Friday.
Did similar last year. Can't play weeks on end. Drops away too quickly.
We need him to level up by backing it up next week.
Cats have #2 rucks aplenty. Time to shine Mabs

He hasn't been horrible, Rids. He's had horrible moments.
By horrible do you mean WC q4, Coll q4, all of GC q1234?
Vs Saints he was beaten but I don't recall horrible.

I'm not a hater, now is a time to applaud his performance.
And repeat what so many ask for - week in week out contributions.
He has had spectacular moments. And committed moments (the pack crashing mark). And dominant quarters.
More please

Let’s wait & see. I’m not blinded by name or reputation as you are.

Not a ridiculous statement at all. Lynch is completely out of gas after about 20mins and can't get off the ground nor beat an opponent for strength for the rest of the game. No idea if he is carrying something but he's struggling. And was before his injury break. So it's not that. Ends up hunting ball on the wing in the 2nd half to get a sniff and is still a large lad with skills so still has an impact, but he should be getting off the ground and taking pack marks. He isn't.

That’s how I see it too. Massive contrast to 2019 and his best form previously with Gold Coast. I suspect the state of his knee injury is worse than has been reported. Perhaps the PCL injury he came with has degenerated.

Watching him run and try to jump, it looks like he has issues with the knee. To me, he runs with a noticeable limp and can't get any air. It's why he engages his opponent with physical contact instead of trying to beat him on the lead or jump at the ball. If it's knee degeneration I'm sure the club won't make it public considering the contract he's on and try to manage it best they can.

Agree - that's what I see too. How he is now physically is totally different to the player I saw kick four on Rance at the MCG in 2017 I think. He was certainly able to jump and move far better back then.

Sounds a bit black and white to me, td. BTW the week after Burgess "pantsed" Mabior he molested Mumford. Burgess has got a bit on the 'Baner lepers.

Mabior is improving. And, if I may quote what by now is a PRE standard, "improvement is not a ratchet".

That said Mabior's graph looks pretty steady to me this year.

On weaknesses, Mabior was getting a hold of #3 ruck Phillips a few weeks ago. Rutten moved a small onto him. Cox. Cox had a career-best match and got on top of Mabior at the fall.

It's an old trick. The tall has small game? Then put a small on him. Rutten knows Mabior and did that.

Burgess beat Mabior at the fall. Two weeks after Cox did. Some coaches are watching. Did Fagan watch?

Astute as always Big Jack. My defence of Mabs does not constitute unabashed affirmation. Just a fair assessment. Improvement is a good sign. That sweet boot is an asset. Would love to see him use that range finder with field kicking as well as goal kicking. Nank is almost freakish in him ability to run out games. What a great yard stick to have for the young bloke aspire to.

Don't get stooged by Friday's game.
He only played 50% (NitNat minutes)
He kicked 2 quality goals
I ass and one castagna wouldve kicked.
Where not back in 1998 anymore.
If he wants out he can go.

Love the Ratchet analogy Jack but if my hazy memory serves was Snake’s original line ‘improvement IS a ratchet?’

Dunno, could be completely wrong but I took it to mean that improvement isn’t a linear trajectory but comes in fits and spurts when a player makes various breakthroughs and discoveries.

In any case you are spot on as usual.

After 6 years in the system he should be able to put 4-5 Good games in a row.
They don't have to be BOG quality but serviceable games.
Currently there is the gap the size of Bass Strait between his good and ordinary games.
Like ive said countless times, he would be last on my list of priorities.
I can't get over how we can constantly lose players for nothing, but Footscary can finish top 2 and get pick 1 at the draft.
Imagine the outcry if HaganFagan ended up at punt rd.

Chol would be a handful if he consistently produced what he did last Friday night.

Definite improvement this year. Played 21 games before this year and 7 so far in 2021. Average marks have gone from 1.76 previous 21 games to a tick over 3 this year. Total disposals from an average 6.57 to 11.28 and hitouts from 6.57 to 15.

Tigersnake is right in that improvement is not a steady thing. Maybe, just maybe Mabior is about to take the big step up...or it is a case of brightest before the fizzle just like a Catherine wheel (remember those?) What will it be? The Dusty Martin like cult idol or the dust bin?

I want to see he stay and would sign him again for modest coin. If another club wants to pay overs then it is up to Chol to decide cash or working hard for glory
