I've been thinking about this a bit in the past few days.

There's a Neale Daniher speech that instantly became a bit of a mantra for me and with a few challenges in my life at the moment I find myself drawing on it more than ever.

Why not us?

I don't think we'd have won a premiership without Dustin. Honest opinion, but in a sense incredibly disrespectful of the rest of the players. Now there's a chance to win the most difficult of premierships, in the most difficult of ways, without him. Why not us?

I don't think our coach is a great coach, in the match day sense. He's a relationships man, not a footy man. That's also incredibly disrespectful and likely unfair but I don't see the footy world calling him a master coach too often. If he leads this side to a flag in these circumstances though? Master. Coach. Why not us?

There's always opportunity, if you look for it.
Except Leppa, Leppa called him a coaching genius & he sat alongside him for what 150 games ?

And Taz, Taz also called him a coaching genius & he sat beside him for ..........................................

1 game :)

This would be epic. The greatest ever RFC Premiership win. If we do it one B. Houli will take out the Norm.

The absence of Dusty might well make the other players lift an extra 5% knowing the great man isn't there. Stranger things have happened.

The key will be injuries and if we can re-capture our best finals winning form. We've been there done that on so many occasions so I can't see why we can't.

The genius Jake Niall said there are no great teams, thus a team from the bottom of the 8 could win it. Except us, because we don't have Dusty. And by extension, we're not a great team according to the man who wakes up every morning thankful Slobbo saves him from being the dumbest chief football writer since Mike Sheahan.

I'm hoping our triple premiership..... and apparently *smile* matchday coach can finally get his act together and do something to get us over the line this Sunday, thus elevating his status amongst some from *smile* to terrible!

I think Dimma is actually a terrific defensive coach. He is famous for spamming defensive structures at training in the summer of 2016/17.

Where he needs help is ball movement. No surprise that his attempt at imposing his own possession style from 2016 a month or two ago fell flat. Because Dimma’s idea of ball movement is denial.

The measure of Dimma as head coach came when he began trusting in the players to express themselves with ball in hand. Smash the defensive structures at training, let the players move the ball in their own way, at pace.

A forward handball here, a flick-on there. The players relished the freedom and a dynasty was born.

Now Dimma, ever astute, has realised that we need to apply that same freedom of movement if we want to salvage something from 2021.

Except this time we have more precise execution from the back half. Our dynamic is looking sharper by the week.

Doesn’t get enough kudos, Dimma. From porridge, leaden footy in 2016 to the most dynamic, finals-proof brand the game has seen in a generation.

We may not have the Carracellas of this world to polish transition, but we have an extremely canny man manager working with the muscle memory of 25-odd seasoned performers.

Finals or not in 2021, we are in excellent hands. I’m tipping we get a top tier ball movement coach in over the off-season.

My head says there’s no way we can do it, but my heart still hopes. Remember when they all said we couldn’t win without Rance?

Like Grimes did, this is the time for the apprentice to step out of the long shadow: Shai Bolton.

Watch the AFL media if we beat the Cats this week, those who wrote our obituaries over the last couple of weeks will be deleting them in a big hurry. With Dusty out Bolton could explode in his role as the main man.

It's going to be tough. Nine games left if we make the grand final. Nine games without Dusty - that's how many he's missed in almost 12 seasons, total. Talk about integral. And we've got to win at least eight of them, including the last four in increasing order of difficulty.

It would be one for the ages.

Exactly, it feels like we’re starting again. No one rates us.

I wonder if the players can find a spark from this?
Bingo! we'll find out tomorrow. As for the "contenders" i am not convinced any of them have a "big boy month" in them, which is what it will take to win the flag. If we can keep building we are in with a chance.

We are starting to play the richmond way. Re watched the brisbane game again and analysed our game plan without the anxiety of hoping for a win. We are not going slowly and chipping sideways like we did there for a while and are playing fast surging football. We recalibrated after the bye back to our natural style and it's taken us 4 losses to find some semblance of our mojo. If we double down on this style of play and don't lose any more critical players to injury we will hit September like a tsunami.
