I still think Parker will stay in Sydney. George Hewett is an RFA, more likely to get squeezed out.

Tend to agree.

Be amazed if we fit both Parker and Cerra in (unless we lose Bolton).
Playing his best footy Leysy. Never misses. Both keep the window open next year. Cerra looks after the future.

Parker would be perfect for the next three years. I can't see him leaving he seems like he is a Swan through and through. Hopefully the Buddy contract pushes him out though.

4 years 2.5 million. Front ended. Trigger for a fifth. He’s been remarkably durable and is still a top 25 mid right now.
29 in Oct. 4 years too risky for mine. He’s a fantastic player but that’s a fair punt.

Parker is a gun, but would cost too much, could sign Cerra for longer and cheaper.

What should we be recruiting for, the next couple of years, or the next decade?

If its the next decade McInerney would be a good target.

Parker ? Good player but whatever happened to that principle/philosophy that Hartley and co. work via and have been pretty open about where, for obvious reasons, we focus on mature age recruits that are in the 26 y.o. and under category ?

What we need to do is recruit for the now and future. You do this by targeting Cerra, Parker & keeping a first round selection. Our window is still open. Your window doesnt shut until one D.Martin is gone.

We still have a very good list. Prestia, Bolton, Vlaustuin, Balta, Lynch, Lambert, Martin, Broad, Rioli, Stack, Nankervis, Grimes all have plenty of football left in them to get us another flag.

Plus the development of Mansell, MRJ, Cumberland, RCD & Martyn.

Add a Cerra, Parker and another 1st round draft pick and we have the nucleus again to challenge as early as next year.

@tigertim will give you the stats on the lack of games that recruits 28+ play.

We had the chance to get Parker way back when we were watching Jake Batchelor.
I got them off @LeeToRainesToRoach

I did a search but couldn’t find the posts but from memory a 29 yr old going to their second club averages 30-40 games. Going to their 3rd club was 20ish (from memory)

It’d be madness to offer a 29 year old a 4 year contract .

Don't agree with Parker. No doubt a quality player but he's one paced and we already have enough of those types. Add to that we would need to offer a long term contract and then we are stuck with another ageing player that is on the decline. Cerra definitely as it fills a now and future problem. Would be looking at any others around the 25-26 age bracket for midfield bolstering. Look to the early draft to try and hopefully grab some elite midfield talent. Use the trade/mature age to grab midfield depth. We need to find some pace and ball winning ability for our midfield

What is the status with Tom Green (GWS), he would be the first id look at if he's available, love his inside work.
Cerra looks classy but geez what he is asking is steep. If we could land him at 600K using one first-rounder then sure go for it but 750K+ no way!

In for this thinking.

Getting someone like Green would be a radical departure from our current setup and require other players and even significant game plan changes to make it work.

It’s not just about pointing at a decent midfielder and saying “get him”. First we need to figure out how we want to play, then figure out the type of players that would suit that style and then, finally, try and get those players.
