yeah we played *smile*, and we *smile* that up, and we didnt deserve to win.

But jeez, in a rolling maul in the last, the umps would let 3 or 4 dropping the ball and holding the balls go to Freo, then blow the pea out of the whistle as soon as they could to give them a kick,
This is never ever ever going to improve. Too many seasons with issues.
The htb rule is a shambles.
Yes. 10000000000%

I have never seen such a clear discrepancy in how the HTB rule is officiated depending on what jumper you happen to be wearing as today's game. Not sure about other decisions but HTB my goodness. The bias is astonishing. Injustice is infuriating
The rule is pretty simple, rens. If a Richmond player is about to tackle you, headbutt his armpit for a free kick. If you can't do that, drop the ball to the advantage of a teammate and we'll call play on. When the situation is reversed of course it is holding the ball.

Wasn't in the back to Grimes?
Wasn't holding the man to Graham?
Wasn't holding the man to Prestia?
Its hard to put up with this every single week. And the gutless media refusal to highlight there mistakes

It’s incredibly frustrating, isn’t it? After all these years of tinkering and ideas, and the quality of umpiring continues to make Big Pharma richer and richer through increased blood pressure prescriptions as a result of it. Stepping back and looking at it, there’s one thing in particular that doesn’t get enough attention IMO:

Umpires miss a majority of all infringements that are there.

My hunch is they miss at least 80% of all free kicks. And when a majority of infringements are regularly missed, players tend to cheat the rules more often.

Maybe we have to stop targeting the umpires and start targeting the players. Carefully review each game and consider severe penalties to players who are seen to manipulate the rules in any way. Stamp out all cheating. Penalise dishonest players over umpires in which it’s not humanly possible to do a better job.

The game is simply too fast, chaotic, and dense to umpire accurately in real-time, so I‘m starting to accept the fact that umpires can’t do a better job (for now). At the very least, the current solution of focusing on the umpires by giving them new rules every week certainly isn’t working.

I thought the umps helped us achieve our goals today.
Thank you umpires.

It's just exhausting.

How many games do we have to sit there and think "hmmm, are we getting umpired differently as a directive from above" ???

Impossible game to umpire but how we can't get the most blatant HTB decisions EVER, then 2 minutes later get pinged for them is absolutely boiling my urine

really bad. Freo given a green light to throw. Hair trigger on iffy frees to them, nothing for us. HTB/ prior/ incorrect disposal a hopeless joke, but nothing new there.

Being a retro round, had they umpired like the 90s it would've been more likeable. Just forget the minor infringements and call out the bleeding obvious.

Just back from the game….jeebus we have to work so hard to get rewarded a free. It was so obvious at the ground that we are umpired to another standard. The bearded fly larvae should never get another gig!

I'd love to know A) when and why 'spilled out in the tackle' became a thing. B) where spilled out in the tackle stops and dropping the ball starts.

Only starts and stops when a tiger is involved.
They can let a rolling maul continue with incorrect disposal, throws, high tackles, illegal holding etc etc etc, then ping a tiger for touching the ball.
I was blown away at 3 quarter time, rfc 12 free norf 13!
It was way more blatant than that.

Now that we won can we complain how their first 3 goals came from umpiring mistakes.

It was clear to me in the game that North players have been coached to release (drop) the ball when they are tackled. Time and again this is happening and no free. Geelong also do it.

How about when the north player was gething run down so they hand balled to the ground in front of them before getting tackled. That’s always been dropping the ball.
No, holding the man against Richmond. Huh?.
