It may be harsh but maybe the umpires need to even stronger in the HTB determination. So often players aren’t disposing the ball because they don’t like the option (or there are none) so they allow themselves to be tackled and it’s a ball up. These instances are split second stuff, not blatant but IMO they’re there.
It’s most obvious when you see their teammate come in and tackle them too to ensure there is no way the ball gets out.

IM sure we do it sometimes, but most teams do it continually against us. They know we want the play in motion, but arent strong at clearances.
So often the player will just fall into the tackle and make sure they are wrapped up. they make no attempt to get rid of it, but are never pinged. we often try to keep the ball in play, then get a free against for incorrect disposal, or holding the ball.

the only thing that stopped the umpired from being very aggravating, was the fact we were so bad that it didnt matter.

The AFL need to search far and wide for some decent umpires. Go to the bush and you can find heaps of better umps. The current batch of umps are *smile* useless.
I have a feeling the current batch of umpires are getting the exact results the AFL is after

They set the seen last night.
Maybe we wouldve lost anyway.
But those decisions on the first 5 minutes took the *smile* out of us.

I hate when the commentators bag the player for giving it to the umpires and conceding a 50m penalty.
Maybe the commentators need to focus on what brought out the out burst first before they open there mouths.

I seen the scene and didn’t like what I scene.
Our players seemed to lose their spirit after those two deplorable decisions.
I’ve been watching football a long time and have never scene anything like it.

Well done to Prestia for letting the umpire know he's a cheat. We need to call it out regardless of penalty. Dimma and the club need to call it out also. Enough is enough.

You could see the frustration in Grimes and Vlastuin and they did well to restrain themselves.

Two soft free kick goals to them and one disallowed is a three goal turnaround. The bias was palpable. We were handily leading free kicks at half time then lost by 6 at the end of the game.

Are the umps professional? If not they should be and should be paid a decent amount to attract the best people. If not performing sack them and get others in. People will line up if it pays well. Not the part time accountants we have that are shielded from any scrutiny and stay in the system forever performing at a low level.

Yeah I noticed their facial expression too. It's obviously another problem that's affected our players this season and they know it.

protected species, like umpires, tend to develop superiority complexes ..
this makes for an impossible situation ..

Not fully professional, not yet, although I did hear a few years ago that the best ones make over $100,000 a season.

Boundary lines not in play this round, I reckon I've seen 4 blokes run a metre outside the line and keep going.

Treloar just executed another perfect throw.

Yep. I nearly kicked the TV in I was that mad.
Our players would have felt the same way.
They know doubt already feel the establishment is out to get them & the early decisions in the game last night were nothing short of apalling.
It likely didn't make any difference but my guess is it would have had an impact on our player's mindset.

It was so bad that even the commentators were lost for words & raising eyebrows.
