Yep I reckon medical view is his hamstrings are shot. (Only evidence is what I’ve seen with my own eyes)

Personally I don't understand this decision by the club, especially if Bachar felt so strongly about it.

It's one thing if a 30+yo player would like to play on, it's another if he's absolutely gunning to play on and prove his worth... and it's another thing altogether when that player is a person like Bachar who is still in great personal form and played a heroic role in a Grand Final just 10 months earlier.

Past actions aside, looking forward is it because we think he might not be able to play 25 games next year? Is it us expecting to miss finals next year? He won't be best 22? We don't think we'll have injuries down back next year? Part of broader list plan? Or a broader cultural plan to empower a younger group and we don't think we can get the younger guys to take ownership any other way? Is it money? List size?

What exactly is the football logic behind forcing an actual triple premiership Tiger legend in good form into an early retirement?
He is now old and injury prone and good form is a big stretch. Players never want to retire - Michael Tuck and Boomer Harvey would still be playing if the decision was left to them.

Ok you social media savvy people, (i don't use it), anyone know what Bachar has said:

Herald Sun headline: 'Tigers Champ Asks For Forgiveness'

and go on to say:

Bachar Houli has posted an emotional message on social media as he comes to terms with being a retired AFL champion

Spoke to a source who knows him personally, Bachar won't be pursuing another club.

Perhaps the club did tell him mid season that he would be retained, but Dan Rioli's form down back prompted an about turn.

Bachar would know his own medical situation better than anyone else and he's 100% on playing on.

Is he selfish?

Hmm, probably a little selfish, maybe some denial, but I would say mostly over-optimistic about how well his body can handle the rigours of AFL football.

I don't think it is possible but I would have liked to see Bachar as a VFL listed player acting as a bit of a specialist coach. The slower pace of the game would suit his body and he could teach so much, on and off the field, to young players.

I hope they find him a role at Richmond, that is, in addition to running the Bachar Houli Foundation which must continue.

Some players dont know when to retire. He can play on next year and he may have had his worst year. Go out on a good note.

Its a bit rough on Bachar really.

Through necessity we asked him to play through a torn calf during the Grand Final. Some of us have done calf injuries before. Once you ping one its almost impossible to continue. He would have been jabbed up and probably made a complete mess of it during the game so much so he could not come back until round 4 of the season.

Missing a full preseason wrecked his fitness for the year. Outside of that he came back and played some really good footy until his ankle was messed up which is not really and old persons injury.

At the end of the day they want to get games into Stacky and Rioli. I get it.

Just a bit rough on Bachar who through extraordinary courage for the team in the Grand Final probably stuffed up his last year of footy.

Here is the actual wording and a link to his post.

Whilst it still hasn’t fully sunk in… i wanted to thank everyone for their support along the journey. Whilst it’s close to impossible to get back to everyone personally I wanted to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please forgive me if I’ve wronged anyone along the way for its purely from the weakness of mankind. What next ??? Well like I said, a little fishing…. Well maybe a lot of it lol, and plenty of camping and hunting when lockdown ends. I’ll continue my work with the @bhfoundationau as working with the youth never ends in this current environment ( exciting and challenging which I look forward to). @davidastbury all the best with life brother, you have been an amazing team mate and close friend. Also a massive thank you to my personal sponsors @melbournecityjeep @fisheriesvic @mcca_aus @humanappealaus @pumafooty @mcg Alhamdulilah ( thank you Allah ) and Salams ( peace ) everyone.

No doubting Houli has been great for the Tigers but given his injury concerns and struggles to get on the park over the past two seasons I would question the "Early Retirement" monika.

An argument could just as easily be made that Bachar's AFL career has gone on one season too many rather than too short.

My 63 year old body still feels like a 33 year old. Until it doesn’t. Which is happening more often.
