Amazing that China are still such a poor team in Asia even with all the ridiculous amounts of money they spend on their domestic competition. Still a good result, Vietnam will be a test but no crowds will help us. Oman/Japan result good for us too.

The Japan v Oman game is only a good result if that doesn't bring Oman into contention for the qualification spots.

OK, I see it as a good result in that it is 3 points that Japan didn't get from a home game. We are fighting with them and the Saudis for top spot right? I'm not worried about Oman.

We are 1:0 up at half time on terrible SE Asian pitch. Vietnam defending well.

That's the thing though. If they beat the Japanese team in Japan then possibly we should be worried about them.

Typical game in SE Asia. Crap pitch and conditions and you need to grind out a win. it wasn't pretty, but job done. Both Japan and the Saudi's won.

On another note, our next match will be against Oman at Bankwest stadium in Sydney on October 7.

Yes, you heard me right. In Sydney with crowds (fully vaccinated only) in the heartland of Australia's biggest ever COVID outbreak.

It seems like this will be a test case for the future. Oman and the Australian international players will be placed in a bubble and given an exemption to enter Australia without doing 14 days HQ.

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this. Its great that the Socceroos are playing on home soil, but it just feels wrong it’s in Sydney. Am I right to feel this way? It just feels wrong that NSW are being rewarded for their recklessness (and because no other state government would have approved this game).

it is wrong. But I guess we'll see if Oman are the real deal or not!

Where is the headquarters of the FFA?

Yeah in Sydney (they are now called FA or Football Australia). They have had a reputation for being Sydney centric for as long as I can remember. But I can’t blame them for wanting to play home world cup qualifiers at home. There is nothing more important than qualifying for the world cup. They could also do with some revenue after not playing at home for 2 years. They have been lobbying the federal government about this for months.

But it doesn’t make it right.

It doesnt feel right, but FA want to play in Australia, and I am sure the players want to play in Australia (they cant play Asian qualifiers in Europe). No other state would allow both teams to avoid quarantine so NSW it is.
I guess if some of the players/officials are positive, it wont really make much difference to NSW anyway.

means also it will be on at a good time, rather than middle of the night.

Socceroos v their arch rival in Japan tomorrow night - great time and FTA.

They could almost book their ticket to Qatar if they manage to win but they have never beaten Japan in Japan - would be a first.

Yep. Japan have had a terrible start to qualifying despite having many good players at the top levels in Europe. Japan really need to win this to have a chance of automatic qualification but on form we are killing it. Big chance to beat them right now, all the pressure on Japan.

It’s not just our good form and their poor form. But I believe there will be no crowd in Saitama. If we win this, you can just about book your ticket to Qatar. We will be 9 points ahead of Japan with 6 games left. But I will happily take a draw.

Also on 1 of the FTA stations (I think AA was referring to their stream).

Yeah it’s on 10Bold, which is disappointing. You would have thought CH10 would place it on their primary channel, considering their new investment in the game, plus we are playing our biggest rival in the modern era.
