Don’t really care when it’s played.

We seem to cope with night footy for 25 weeks of the season so I’m not sure of the hysteria about a night GF.

Whichever television station wins the next broadcast rights to telecast AFL will demand that there be a night grand final.

In case you haven't notice Australia has become the 51st of the United States of America and it makes me sick. The AFL has led this direction over the last 20 years by copying anything and everything associated with NFL, media exposure and allowing TV to determine time slots and days on which games are played. Christ even names like the West Coast Eagles, or the Gold Coast Suns give me the sh!ts - stinks of Americanism.

Can you imagine Richmond being called Richmond Wild Tigers or just Tiger Pride or some other claptrap. Traditions ARE IMPORTANT and leaving the Grand Final at the MCG starting at 2.10pm is a no brainer. The AFL has not had one original idea in generations so I'm not surprised they want a twilight GF eventually moving it to a Sunday, or wait for it, a Monday night GF just like the NFL. Muppets!!!!!!

Your rant would be more powerful if it was factually correct. The Superbowl is on Sunday night. I'm not aware of any Americanism with "West Coast Eagles", but there isn't a team called West Coast in any American sports I'm aware of, and Eagles are native to Western Australia. I'll give you the Suns, it's pissweak. There are plenty of teams with Tigers emblem, like the Detroit Tigers or LSU Tigers, but none I know of called the wild Tigers or Tiger Pride. I think you're worrying about a problem that doesn't exist, but progress upsets people, I get that.

massive fan of a twilight GF. gonna happen soon

After giving it more thought ,

Last year in the finals , we had a night final , a twilight , and the daytime GF,

The twilight prelim was hard to fault in any area IMO ,

I believe it would work .

Isn't that why the NRL did it? Read somewhere last year that they're rethinking it. I really wish they'd just stop *smile* about with things like game time. I'd probably still watch it, but unless the Tigers were in it, have a lot less interest. It's bad enough now waiting around for hours for a home and away game during the weekend that is Saturday or the dreaded Sunday twilight, the GF would be extremely painful.

Change does not necessarily equate to progress Hutstar.
Agreed, and I don't want the GF to move either. I'm simply saying that the Americanization of Aussie rules and the AFL is a conspiracy theory, thrown around every time the AFL contemplates a change. Sure, there are some commonalities, but that's becasue the goals are similar. Blaming America for the possible move of the GF is easy but inaccurate - they'd never move the superbowl, even though most punters would prefer it on a Saturday night. They'd also never put sponsor logos on uniforms or in fact change the game substantially to make it safer or more 'watchable'. The AFL has always been dynamic and experimental, where American sports are incredibly conservative, though obviously prone to over-hype.

What if the lights went out?

They should be able to fix them before the end of the weekend. Come back and finish the game on the Monday night; or Tuesday lunch time if they're still not fixed.

The AFL has taken the opportunity again to push it's agendas despite overwhelming evidence fans prefer a day time Grand Final.
They’ll claim it’s to fit in with the timeline in WA. Think we had the last day GF in 2019.

Twilight it is despite all polls saying the overwhelming number of fans prefer a day time Grand Final.

Bad on so many levels but it's now it's clear it's all about the Broadca$t dollars & eyes on screens.

Worst part is the time waiting until gametime & the short time the winning team gets to celebrate after the game.

I'm glad we got to experience the last one in 2019.

I don’t disagree with your opinion as to the optimum timing of the event but what is the source of your statement of the decision, please?
