Got the monthly newsletter from my club yesterday.

They said Golf Australia was actively working with the Victorian government to open up golf clubs again on 23 September using agreed protocols etc. Hope so.

But perhaps more interesting, the newsletter mentioned that several sandbelt courses had ALREADY mandated to all their members that they must be vaccinated in order to gain entry to the club’s grounds going forward. Wow.

My club gave the hint that it was going to do the same.
Really not sure why you are surprised by that ... at all. Seems absolutely logical and sensible.

Not surprised, and quite happy for it to happen, but given the nature of members at my club, and the typical sandbelt clubs in Melbourne, there’s gonna be a lot of them who are gonna crack it.

During past restrictions, members at my club (and I dare say others) couldn’t even comply with wearing a mask in the clubhouse, groups convening without masks etc etc and a whole lot of them bullshitting on about Covid being exaggerated and what not. You can bet London to a brick that a heap of these people won’t be vaccinated.

Members at my club complain about a 50c increase to a ham sandwich so this cohort of people will crack it, as they will at others.

Too bad. Go *** yourself I reckon. But still, the clubs are gonna be in for a tough time dealing with these dheads.

Your last sentence says it all. Maybe one of the most fascinating aspects of the whole Covid virus disaster, especially in retrospect which will produce a vast range of scientific, political and social analysis along with fiction and further opinionated commentary, is how it has defined the dividing lines in our whole country/states/local communities and group connections. Dividing lines based on a wide range of factors: political persuasion, education, age and generation, acceptance of science, social class and possibly race/ethnicity.

I can really imagine exactly the type of people you see in comfortable, middle-class golf clubs. Very entitled, privileged types often, highly conservative with entrenched old-world values many of them.

A pandemic is a bit like water: it creates its own levels in the world. And many who refuse to face realities, may cost themselves their own life/damaged health or ones close to them that they are so blase about putting at risk. Getting vaxed is now quite straightforward for almost all.

I think governments will take it out of their hands requiring either a vaccine passport or current negative rapid test (or both). No-one has the 'right' to place others in danger through their ignorance or arrogance. Otherwise, more people ill or dead, virus keeps transmitting including getting access to those still vulnerable, plus increasing chance of even more harmful variants from mutating. They have no right to ignore science or the law.

They can just confine themselves to homes even much longer or cop the penalties. Their choice.

Spot on Kings of Leon, with all of that.

Your second paragraph describes a number of people at a lot of golf clubs. Mine included. Not all people and not all clubs. But a fair number.

And besides that particular profile you describe, the other profile is the 30-50 year old “she’ll be right” type. I’m too busy and important and wrapped up in myself to worry about any of this type of profile. I just wanna play golf. I don’t care about this other *smile*.

Does my head in.

GO EUROPE !!!

Watched all 3 days. Fantastic.

What a player Leona Maguire is. Glad she beat Kupcakes who was less than gracious at the end. Castren. What a putter. Good comeback by Sagstrom from earlier in the week. Pederson solid.

Inverness looked fantastic with all the trees pulled out.

Onto the Ryder Cup. Go Europoaaaa !!

Lakes is rubbish. One of the worst courses I’ve ever played. NSW GC fantastic.

Really????

Did you play before or after the Clayton reno? I reckon it is world class since that was finished.
After. The first 8 or so holes are ok (except the first) but after that it’s all rubbish. Courses with heaps of lakes are banal and boring. The Lakes reminds me of a lot of boring Florida courses.

You Sir, are one tough judge of a golf course.

I reckon the back nine at the Lakes is magnificent. The par fives give you a great risk v reward battle and the couple of short par fours are more than meets the eye.

I'll give you that the threes are a bit ordinary but as a total package I have it right up there with all but the very best in Australia.
The 1st and 10th holes are rubbish. So is that silly hole along the highway that’s like it’s squashed into a mini valley. 12th ? Par 3 9th. No good !

It’s hard for Rudeford to truly judge a golf course , spends a lot of time looking for his hot dots in the gombeye, no need to say why he dosent rate a course with water

Stevie Stricker leaves out Cheatinprick Reed from Ryder Cup , wish SS came out an spoke honestly about why he didn’t pick him “ because he’s a cheat and nobody likes him”

Phoney water carries are crass. And besides, I don’t carry a ball retriever with me like you do.

It gets a bit wet in the bar after a hole in one doesn't it.
Well, unlike Mr Darkside the nerd, who jumps in his car straight after a round, goes home and makes a cup of tea and plows all his 3 putts into a meaningless spreadsheet and then spends the next 2 hours blogging with other nerds about how his long putter keeps getting tangled up with his ball retriever, I prefer to have a few (quite a few) beers in the clubhouse with my fellow members.

That's massive. He must really be disliked because he should be there on talent.
